We've got some 2500 students with Live@edu accounts. I have had a few reports of students working in the live versions of both Excel and Word returning to their Skydrives to find their documents haven't saved. This is not something that I have been able to recreate. Has anybody else experienced this? Is there a common symptom for documents that don't save? Any advise will be welcome. Thanks,

So i'm doing some research into the whole live@edu vs google apps to see what the benefits of both are. Are you a user of either of these? If so what do you like and dislike about them? Cheres Alex

We currently have our own Microsoft Exchange 2010 server located onsite that provides email accounts to both Staff and Students (1GB max mailbox size for each user currently). The current "buzz" word with the head is CLOUD! And yes he knows that both Microsoft and Google provide free email based solutions. I kind of like the idea of Microsoft providing 25GB of Skydrive storage to each user with their Live@edu solution but it's not very easy to use at the moment with no ability to map network drives to it and no Android (the way we are heading with tablets) apps currently. We have attempted to try the Live@edu trial by setting up a test subdomain and using this. Yes we will save money on storage but any software costs saved by getting rid of Microsoft Exchange 2010 from our license agreement will be replaced with getting Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager 2010. And this is where my experience so far is far from being pleased! Endless problems trying to get AD to sync via FIM2010 to the Outlook Live service. In fact still getting an error now with ps.outlook.com certificate revocation (any ideas on this one?). Are any of you going down the Cloud email route? What way are you going? And is it worth it? And has anyone come across the Live@edu problem I am having?

Our disciplinary process here at the college involves restricting student's access to the Internet for one week when a breach of the computer usage agreement is committed. This was achieved by adding our students to a policy in our content filter that allowed our internal IP range but nothing external. However since migrating to Live@edu this was no longer applicable. What we needed to do was add some additional domains so that access to live@edu can also happen. I raised a support call with Microsoft for a comprehensive list of associated domains and they came back with one...*live*. Not so. Below is the list of all domains I've allowed so that Live@edu can be served up. *live* *passport* *wlxrs* *microsoft* *bing* *outlook* *atdmt* *msecnd* Without allowing all of these, the page will either render very badly or most likely not at all. I was particularly annoyed at having to allow bing.

Thanks to Jerome Araujo at Microsoft for providing me with these links. One of the advantages of migrating to Live@Edu is that you are able to synchronize your college e-mails with e-mail client applications on your computer such as Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird. You can also access the e-mails from most smart phones such as iPhones, BlackBerrys, Android phones etc…. Instructions on how to do this are available from the following links: For iPhone: Set Up POP or IMAP E-Mail on an Apple iPhone For BlackBerry: Set Up POP or IMAP E-Mail on a BlackBerry Curve For Outlook: Set Up Outlook 2010 for IMAP or POP Access to Your E-Mail Account If the above links don’t apply to you then this link: Generic Settings provides generic instructions that you can use to get the information you will need to put into your phone or mail client.

Hi Guys, I am a newbie to powershell so i want to do some the following in powershell We have created all our Student Users into outlook Live and i have set a couple of CustomAttribs as discribed in howto sections. Q1 Firstly Can you create a Powershell that asks for a Variable/filter that way i do not have to create seperate powershell scripts to do same thing on different users. Q2 How do i export certain users in powershell based on a value in Customattrib I have set the first Custobattrib with there year Group Year 7 Year 8 Year 9 etc but i want to just export all users with the Custom Year 8 for example. q3 Simular to above but if i want to disable/delete users based on the same variable again what is the powershell script. Q4 We have setup the Student Email domain as a Tennet off our main domain how do i disable the students.hilbre.wirral.sch.uk IM chat without disabling the Staff Chat at hilbre.wirral.sch.uk Thanks

We're in the middle of setting up an Office 365 solution for our staff email. During the setup I've needed to use a bit of Powershell which is totally new to me. I thought it might be useful to others if I shared what I have learned. I have written (compiled is probably more accurate) some scripts in Powershell IDE so that techies after me have an easier life. Once downloaded you can run them by right click - Run with Powershell. You will need to edit it first to include your proxy settings or comment out the proxy command before running if you don't have a proxy (# is used for comments in Powershell) Hide users from GAL - can be used to hide users from the address lists. We need this because administrators need to enter a mobile number for the purpose of password resets but we may start using Office 365 Outlook for students later in the year so we need this information hidden. We're setup 2 accounts for administrators a regular user account for them to use for emails and a second administrator account. Connect-SetRegional-SetSpelling is a script for setting the regional and spelling options for all current users. Using this will mean that users aren't asked to confirm regional settings when they first login. It's set to check spelling before sending an email and customized to UK. Hope they're useful Connect-SetRegional-SetSpelling.ps1 Hidde user from GAL.ps1

Hi, We have gone to Live@Edu for our email services. We also have Paper Cut MF which we would like to send email Print Notifications but keep getting a a error message. "Error sending email: Authentication failed; nested exception is javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException. Address: **EMAIL-ADDRESS**, subject: PaperCut Notification, error: Authentication failed; nested exception is javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException" I have put the SMTP settings in the config editor.. Please help.

I am trying to use the smtp server on live@edu for or moodle server and other bit around the school. We are a Webanywhere school. and have had them look at them problem and they say it is a problem at MS end at to contact them. But i was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts ideas. Problem is SMTP does not work beacuse "The problem is that when we the RCPT TO part of the message is sent to the SMTP server, it sees the upper-case R and immediately renegotiates the connection. As a result, none of the messages actually get sent. There are flags that can be set when running the program (-quiet or -ign_eof) but we can't run them from our end, they'd have to be run internally." I have rasied a support call to MS but they have not come back yet. Or is there any other way we can use another FREE SMTP relay server Stuart Purvis

Afternoon everyone, I’ve spent all afternoon trying to route mail through a shared address space on our on-site Exchange 2007 server and still no joy!! My aim is to route mail through the on-site exchange to MS Live@Edu cloud but keeping the primary domain address. I have followed this guide: Configure a Shared Address Space with On-Premises Relay The server can route mail via the Send Connector as I have tested this by sending an email to: [email protected] UserA has a mailbox on-site, I want to email the users primary domain ([email protected]) then exchange to route to the cloud. I have read the article on adding the live.domain.com as a proxy address to the user’s profile but the mail just gets delivered to the on-site mailbox…… I have to use shared address space because I’m still keeping staff hosted on-site. I know I’m probably missing something; can anyone point me in the right direction? Regards Matt

hey everyone, I've took it upon myself to see what email solutions there are out there, Currently we don't control our email its all done at county level the gits even charge us £5 for a email new email address plus there calendar options are pretty poor. The boss she would love to have our own exchange server in house but we spending at of money at the moment on load of things so it might be out of the question. So i'm left with really google apps and Microsoft Live@edu, I'm liking google app as I use gmail as my own personal email and I love it but is it really 'free'? are there ad's? is the good control? (e.g not letting the kids to send out bound emails, monitor what they are sending each other?) can you create email lists? is it any good for schools? reliable (which county isn't sometimes)? And the same question free for Microsoft Live@edu, or should we just wait until we can afford our own exchange server? but personal i rather see us move away from county email ASAP to be honest. Any advice or opinion would be great Thanks Nit
