About steves22

  1. Staff access Staffmail on their iPhones. It does not need a password when accessing it other than entering the phone's code first. But I am asked - is there any way to enforce a Staffmail password to access Staffmail after the phones code has been entered.?
  2. Agreed. Costs were about £100 per machine to upgrade to give us 4Gb and ssd. Important consideration was availability of power supplies being difficult to source. I was thinking of refurbs at around £200 for i3 but ssd would be extra. Recently upgraded some to ssd and to 4gb (keeping w7) but user not impressed with performance. Also bought small number of Lenovos - i5, ssd, 8 gb and these are great. Would like to do same with rest but cost would be over £200,000. Even spread over 2 budget years would be too much to bear.
  3. Planning for Windows 7 eol January 2020. Not that far off really. Agree probably best to try an upgrade ourselves but have been very pressed recently. Was interested in putting budget figures together.
  4. We have a mixture of dual core PC's , mostly 2 GB RAM but some 4 GB. Processors are around 2 to 3 Ghz. Mostly Viglen genie ultra small PC's. Usual school software - office, sophos, impero, some photoshop (on 4GB machines). Microsoft site say our spec is OK but suppliers say only i3 or higher processors would give acceptable performance. Machines are about 8 years old and budget is very limited. So grateful for any comments to upgrade or replace.
  5. Thanks for your reply. Would you mind if I ask what the project management is that you mentioned -is this IT support related?
  6. We are a comp with about 1200 pupils with 1nm and 2 technicians -all part time and term time only. I am trying to make a case to have one of these full time but having a hard time. How many techs do other schools employ and are they part or full time?
  7. Hi Paul, Controller is a MC3200, software version 5.1-75
  8. Thanks for the replies. We swapped a couple of APs (AP320's) around but I see now that all 14 AP's (bar one) are now Online and Enabled. Previous state was Online/Disabled but status lights showed normal. Most of the AP's are now showing L2 rather than the L3 that was displayed before. So whilst I am pleased that we are almost completely up and running, I cannot say what the problem was or how to sort it out if it were to reappear.
  9. Makes some sense but at this point I'd be concerned that after a reboot all AP's might become disconnected which would give me a bigger headache.
  10. Hi, Some of my AP320's (connected to Meru 3200 controller) are showing Operational State as "Disabled". All the working ones show connectivity layer L2 but the Disabled ones are showing L3. They used to work fine up to a week ago. In the controller, they are all set up as L2 preferred. Any suggestions welcome
  11. I am looking at getting MS Exchange into the school and was wondering what amount of expertise/effort we will need to devote to running it. We are quite tight on resources here so we would not want to take on something that could become a monster!
  12. I am planning to put 16 PC's into a room that currently has only 4 double sockets. So each of the 8 sockets would have a 4 way power adaptor connected to power 2 PC's and 2 screens each giving power to the 16 PC's and 16 screens. Question is - am I asking for trouble? Will it all blow when we switch them all on. Any comments very welcome.
  13. We pay approx £7k pa for LGFL broadband at 10mbps. As far as I can see, the new rates for a secondary school like us with 1200 pupils will be approx £14k pa. That is a bit of a hike, do other schools see this?
  14. Hi, We have 3 staff - 1 NM (20hours/week), 2 techs (1x20 hours, 1x25 hours). 1100 pupils, 600 PC's, 60 whiteboards. Term time only. Quite a struggle!
