The xserve is configured to use it's own DNS. The server is named "appleserver.local". I will post a screenshot of the DNS but do you know how to take a screenshot using a standard, non mac keyboard?

Yep. I get the coloured spinning disk each time I click on a username & have to wait for the server to respond before I can do anything! There are no logs for AFP and nothing in the system log. It happens with both services running or just one at a time.

Hi there, Yes the it is an OD master DNS is working well, sudo changeip -checkhostname returns no errors. WGM is connecting to 127.0.0.1 - it chose this address automatically the first time i'd run it. Personally I don't think it's a DNS issue as WGM runs fine if AFP & SMB are disabled! Which I can't understand......

Hi, After a bit of help here! I'm attempting to setup our new Apple Xserve and keep hitting the same problem. For some reason Workgroup Manager is not responding as it should! When I first launch the program it appears to do nothing, and then the whole systems stops responding. After about 5 minutes it wakes up again and the users are listed in the left hand column. Then, if I click on a user the system then hangs again and I have to wait before I can edit the user properties. I've managed to narrow down the cause. It only seems to happen if AFP or SMB are running. If these services are disabled Workgroup Manager opens instantly and displays all the users. I kinda need these services enabled....... Any ideas? I'm stuck! Thanks Dan

Having a strange problem with a new MS Office 2003 install on a Windows Vista Laptop. All the software is working fine apart from Word, which just hangs on the splash screen when you try to open it. I have narrowed this down to a problem with the Normal.dot file and deleted it. Word then opens fine and when you close Word, it creates a new Normal.dot file. However!! When you try and open Word again you are back with the same problem.... I have reinstalled Office several times and cleaned up all the leftover files and registry keys but cannot get rid of this problem. Any ideas? Cheers

We have a user using one of the above printers connected locally to her machine. Sometimes, when she prints the printer sits there and does nothing! No error lights, Windows says the printer is printing but it blatently isn't! She has found by switching it off and on again it will then print the job, this is happening more and more as the days go by and she is getting quiet annoyed by it. We have several other of these printers connected in the exact same way, using the same driver and settings and all seem to work fine. I myself have one of these and it's never needed switching off. Any ideas? Cheers

We use Impero here too. It's the best and easiest to use piece of monitoring software we've come across. The detail in the logs is excellent and has helped us with many things.

We use around 15 2600n/2605n and have no problems with them. They do take around a minute to warm up and print the 1st page but after that they get going pretty fast.
