Hi all, The head has asked me to look into getting some library software. We currently use Junior Librarian but it is locally installed on a laptop and is very very old. I have looked at renewing this and getting the more modern version but I cant actually find who I renew with as it seems to be intertwined with Capita. What do your Schools use for this? We use Accelerated Reader so any ways it can tie in to that would be great. Cheers

Our mac system saves its library folders onto a windows server, How do i move the folders to a different location on a different server? I am running mac os x server - version 10.4.11

Hello We have just had the Oliver Library system installed on our servers. It all seems to be working fine apart from the Z-Cataloguing system. In the logs I am getting the message error starting session: IOException (java.net.NoRouteToHostException: No route to host: connect) Has anyone seen this before? Has anyone had any issues with the Oliver system and ISA? Thanks Katie

I am migrating Eclipse .NET to a VM from a physical host which is to be retired. The re-installation of the server went swimmingly and the database conenction seemed to go fine. The database is till on its original server (which isn't due for retirement yet). The only problem is that I simply receive 'Service Unavailable' when I try to browse the Eclipse.NET pages Now IMHO this seems like a .NET problem or possibly just IIS being a bit of a pain. I have tried reinstalling IIS, the .NET frameworks and Eclipse.NET but it still doesn't work. I do get a couple of IIS/.NET related errors in the event log but these just mention performance data. The only other thing that is different is that I am now using Server 2003 Std x64 rather than Server 2003 Std x86. Surely this cannot be the problem though?

Hello All, Big ask, does anyone have an installer for MLS Eclipse 2, we still use the software as there's no issues with it. We've have just upgraded the PC in which the software was on, we've searched far and wide for an installer with no joy, it may be a long shot but does anyone have a link to a download. TIA

Hi, been working on this on for a few days now and not getting very far with it. We are trying to use our SAN as the library location for Xibo, however whenever we try and set it Xibo says "There has been an application error. The Library Location you have picked is not writable to the Xibo Server." So as a test I have set the "Everyone" group up on the SAN with full control, with no luck. Also I download XAMPP on my office PC and set Xibo up the same using the same location (\\SAN\Videos\Xibo) and it worked without any problem. We are using Windows 2008R2 with IIS 7 installed, PHP version 5.3.8 and Xibo 1.2.2.1. I've tried to use a different server (just a virtual), downgrading PHP and reinstalling Xibo and IIS. Any Thoughts?

Hello All, I was wondering if anyone has had problems with home shares being deleted upon first login to Windows 7? We have had to restore allot of students personal shares from backup, and the only common factor we could find is that they have all logged onto a new Windows 7 suite (rest of the network is still in the dark ages, running XP). This isn't all students, just about 20 of them so far. Google searches have so far been unsuccessful in finding an answer. I couldn't find anything glaringly obvious in group policy, Domain functional level is 2003 (although we have one 2k8r2 DC) if that makes a difference. I wondered if it was anything to do with Library settings??? can't see how though. I know it hasn't happened to every user, as there are also about 30 shares that now display as "Documents". I know that that is to do with the desktop.ini file, but I can't believe that the best solution from MS is to go through and disable read permissions for administrators. Any help or info would be gratefully received.

Has anyone begun experiencing a problem with Accelerated Reader web-site where the pages have stopped displaying properly? The box around "I am a Student" and "I am a Teacher/Administrator" are not there. It seems one can still log in but the format of the next page is wrong. Accessing Accelerated Reader after logging in shows a blank screen. These issues are only there when logged in as a student, staff logins show the page correctly. It looks very much like a compatibility issue but adding the page to compatibility doesn't make any difference. Windows 7, IE 11 but the same thing happens with Chrome. Whilst I realise this could be a login script sort of issue / registry entry could anyone indicate what might be causing it so I can check our rather convoluted scripts? We've only seen this in the past week or so. Thanks, Paul.

Hi, When trying to run Circulate on Eclipse.net. it comes up with a open or save box. I try to open it and opens in adobe with an error. Struggling to find a reason for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been asked if we can get the kids' photos into the library system, but I can't figure out any way of doing it in bulk, and I don't much fancy entering them all one by one. Does anyone have a good solution for this? The MLS helpdesk say it's impossible, but I've had wrong information from them before, and I can't believe JL3 would be able to output the photos, but not input them conveniently. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very grateful.

Hi All Looking at putting in a 'proper' library system into our school. We will be shortly moving books from our dedicated library into classes and 2 new 'discovery' rooms. So we will need a netwoked / cloud based system. Any recommendations please?

Hello, Our library currently uses the Capita Reading cloud. However it seems to be a lot of money for what we actually use it for. Could anyone suggest what they currently use. We just want a basic, check books in and out, resource list that can be searched and potentially be able to chase missed loans etc. Thank you

Hello people of edugeek. First I'll apologise if this is in the wrong forum, but it seemed like the correct one at the time. At my school the librarians use Eclipse 2 which is about 10 years old. The other day someone kicked over the librarian's PC and the hard drive in the PC died. So I've replaced the hard drive, reinstalled everything, but when I came to restore the backup the librarian had been taking of the Eclipse database I get an error saying Eclipse needs to be updated for the backup to work. So when I tried to run the update another error appears saying the update.inf file is missing, so my question is, would anybody be able to tell me where I would find this file or how I would go about getting it? I realise we need to upgrade to something that actually has support, but that is £3400 the school don't want to spend. Any help would be appreciated

We have used deepfreeze, steady state, and cleanslate in the past. deepfreeze is expensive, steady state doesn't work with 7, and cleanslate simply breaks on a lot of computers. I have been looking at a solution for our Lab Computers I was looking at steadierstate (Steadier State), but setup looked complicated, I have images built with pro, and it requires enterprise edition(which at least the version in my volume licensing doesnt have dvdmaker media player). I also looked at putting windows write filter for embedded windows in windows 7 pro (EWF on Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit (Enhanced Write Filter)) but it is apparently buggy. I also looked at deploying windows thin pc for labs because it has the writefilter build in. but we found it lacked features we needed although you can install pretty much anything on it (like office) it had some .net issues. The latest thing I have been looking at is mandatory profiles. which are more meant to be hosted on a server pulled down. you are supposed to have all the microsofty goodness to use something like this (windows server/AD) and we run Samba, plus I just want each computer to function independently wihtout outside reliance. you can use these locally (Creating a Mandatory User Profile). This would sort of combine with microsoft's promise that now you don't need to run a admin user to use windows (we will see). Mandatory profiles use a base profile to set up users where all changes to the profile are reverted. which when combined with the fact that the user is a guest should make for a pretty secure machine that a non computer science major can't trash before another re-imaging cycle comes around. the problem with mandatory profiles is that the base profile must be copied with full permissions for Everyone which means that once the intended locked down user logsin they can happily go to the mandatory base profile and start deleting things and adding things that will screw up the whole sync association. what I have found out after two days of looking at permissions is that the files do not need write access to work as a base profile they just need read access it is only the registry entries inside the ntuser.dat (changed to ntuser.man with mandatory profiles) that need full everyone permissions. so that when the user logs in and windows propagates the ntuser.man from the mandatory profile base to the user profiles ntuser.man the user can then make changes to settings. What I also discovered is that if you set read only permissions on the ntuser.man then a guest user that is logged in cannot go and load the hive and make any changes. I have been developing a single click script that will implement after I have sysprepped my maching with copyprofile=true (so that i carries over a lot of the setting that are set up with administrator) after my image is deployed and sysprep and driverpacks finish my setup automatically logs me in as administrator once to finish any addional setup. this is when I would run the script which sets up the mandatory profile, renames ntuser.dat to ntuser.man. changes the permissions to be more secure (need elaboration), creates a guest user that is mapped to the mandatory profile. and sets up that user to autologin on the next reboot. here is the script so far. I hope to get some feed back and document this a little as I test it out myself. If anyone sees any glaring holes in my Idea let me know. the script is made with autoitv3 it needs to be compiled to run as an exe on a system that doesn't have autoit installed. my to do it to get it to a point where i might be able to distribute the compiled.exe any maybe add some user input to ask for user account name. the code executes one line at a time there is no logic. the first portion just automates a windows gui with keypresses. #include #include Run("rundll32.exe sysdm.cpl,EditUserProfiles") WinWaitActive("User Profiles") Send("{TAB}") Send("{ENTER}") WinWaitActive("Copy To") Send("C:\Users\mandatory.v2") Send("{TAB 2}") Send("{ENTER}") WinWaitActive("Select User or Group") Send("Everyone") Send("{ENTER}") WinWaitActive("Copy To") Send("{TAB}") Send("{ENTER}") WinWaitActive("User Profiles") Send("{TAB}") Send("{TAB}") Send("{ENTER}") FileMove("C:\Users\mandatory.v2\ntuser.dat", "C:\Users\mandatory.v2\ntuser.man") FileDelete ( "C:\Users\mandatory.v2\ntuser.dat" ) runwait( @COMspec & " /c icacls C:\Users\mandatory.v2 /remove everyone system administrators","",@SW_HIDE) runwait( @COMspec & " /c net user gclab /profilepath:C:\Users\mandatory /passwordchg:no /passwordreq:no /add","",@SW_HIDE) runwait( @COMspec & " /c net localgroup users gclab /delete","",@SW_HIDE) runwait( @COMspec & " /c net localgroup guests gclab /add","",@SW_HIDE) RegWrite("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon", "DefaultUserName", "REG_SZ", "GClab") RegWrite("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon", "DefaultPassword", "REG_SZ", "") RegWrite("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon", "AutoAdminLogon", "REG_SZ", "1") exit getting the permissions right has been the hardest part. I tried to setup an indepedent directory that didn;t inherit permissions from users/ but that didn't work anyway I rolled it. There seem to be some inconsistencies with what i cacls does and what windows does with permission. or I am just missing something. for example these permissions work and are what is created by the first step c:\users\mandatory.v2 NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(F) BUILTIN\Administrators:(F) NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)(IO)(F) BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)(IO)(F) c:\users\mandatory.v2\AppData NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(I)(F) NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(I)(OI)(CI)(IO)(F) BUILTIN\Administrators:(I)(F) BUILTIN\AdministratorsA:(I)(OI)(CI)(IO)(F) but when trying to copy them with icacls this is the closest I could get which should work as it grants all the same permissions but it doesn't c:\users\mandatory.v2 Everyone:(RX) NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(F) BUILTIN\Administrators:(F) Everyone:(OI)(CI)(IO)(RX) NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)(IO)(F) BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)(IO)(F) c:\users\mandatory.v2\AppData Everyone:(I)(OI)(CI)(RX) NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(I)(F) NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(I)(OI)(CI)(IO)(F) BUILTIN\Administrators:(I)(F) BUILTIN\Administrators:(I)(OI)(CI)(IO)(F) this is after running icacls C:\Users\mandatory.v2 /inheritance:r icacls C:\Users\mandatory.v2 /remove everyone icacls C:\Users\mandatory.v2 /grant everyone:(RX) icacls C:\Users\mandatory.v2 /grant everyone:(OI)(CI)(IO)(RX) what i ended up doing was noticing the fact that the users directory has rx permissions just for the directory that don't propagate to the individual user profiles. so i just removed the permissions on the mandatory.v2 profile icacls C:\Users\mandatory.v2 /remove everyone system administrators /c /q and it works. this might not be the case for different setups i might have borked the permissions on users/ by playing so much with icacls.
