Have two schools (both LGfL schools) where the oneDrive app is misbehaving! You can sign into the app fine and in explorer the extra "drive" shows up However if you click the > arrow it disappears and nothing actually happens - it doesnt expand to show folder list or any contents. If you go into C:\Users\ and navigate into the cache area for that OneDrive - everything is showing up I tested the same version of OneDrive on my work PC at home and logged into the same oneDrive account and the app worked as expected. Anyone else seen this and can offer any suggestions to fix

Chrome - issues with latest release 149.0.7827.54

Apparently mapping as drive rather than UNC is safer with chrome - however we have been doing it this way for years. I work remotely so at the moment have to rely on screenshots. At present only 2 people have reported this issued - just at 2 very different schools. Want to get ahead of this if I can From what they said chrome://downloads doesnt work either - but I believe if they open Explorer and go to downloads the files are there - oddly -
Two possible strange issues with the latest release of Chrome. TBH these may not be related to Chrome but I cant think what else to blame First one! In two schools have had uses report issues with "Downloads" specifically they are getting this identical message As you can see the dialog has added the extra \\?\ at the beginning. This is a "traditional" setup where Downloads is mapped in "Folder Redirection" to a network share - this has worked perfectly for the last 15+ years. Suddenly getting these errors at two schools. This leads on to the second issue and why I think its the chrome release At both of these schools PDQInventory is reporting that Chrome is not installed! However if I check in Program Files Chrome is there! After checking I cant find the correct "uninstall strings" in the registry that would show that Chrome is correctly installed - which is why PDQ is saying its not. Anyone else experiencing this weird behaviour?

My Recommendations: Exam Laptops No Internet Access
sraper replied to MatTheTech's topic in Windows 11
I had just raised a similar query earlier. Tempted for the no internet to just disable the wireless drivers so no network at all! However what I am struggling to work out is that I have been told that they MUST use MS Word but not be able to switch to another app. Is there any "simple" way to force "single-app" mode to Word. Using options like Kiosk Mode or Exam mode seem to go down the route of opening a browser at a fixed URL - or maybe opening a Store app. However I want to run only Winword.exe nothing more than that -
This may help https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/hybrid/connect/how-to-connect-sso-quick-start I was sent this yesterday for a similar issue

Whats the easiest way to set up a laptop for SATS exams for a Braille user. I have been emailed the following All student laptops are currently Enrolled in InTune (no onsite AD server) I was going to look at either the "Exam Mode" or Kiosk mode - however they only allow access to websites I need MS Word

All the syncs are in place from LGfL to AD to Entra Just need something simpler to use such as QR codes or icon based logins etc something that works with AD as well as Entra

Indeed - we try to encourage schools to use individual logins where possible - but ultimately its their choice if not. However wondering if its worth considering using Clever Badges or Wonde (My Login or Magic Badge?) and how easy are either of those to intergate with ActiveDirectory or maybe Hybrid Joined devices

One of the schools we support is wanting to "migrate" to the cloud and based on the advice from one of their governors they are insisting on M365! At present the shcool are using "generic" class logins by year group eg all year 1 kids use a "year 1" login with a very simple password. The school is a member of the LGfL and are signed upto the the USO Sync service so there is an individual login available for every child - the school just dont want to use them. We have tried (and failed) to convince of them of using the individual logins for safguarding reasons. Just wondering what other Primary schools do - especially with the younger children - how do you get them to sign in

How do you structure your department SharePoints? One central main site?
sraper replied to benward1's topic in Cloud Services
Totally this. One of the primary schools I support has one huge "Staff Shared" site - many 100's Gbs in size and its a nightmare especially due to rogue OneDrive syncing. e.g a member of staff will "clean" up a folder - two days late they come back and all the content has magically returned and when you check it points to some other random member of staff having created that contents again - someone who had no reason to be working on those folders - it looks like the OneDrive service on their computer "Ohh Looks some files have gone missing - let me restore them for you" So yes keep each one small and give access to only those who need them- 5 replies
