I watched the first Episode of The Mandalorian last night. Brilliant so far. It looks gorgeous and our lead character looks to have an interesting personal journey to complete as the show progresses. Directed by Dave Filoni who helmed SW:Rebels it looks and feels like a hybrid of that show and the original 3 movies. Worth a watch! 1

Disney+ aren't releasing it in the UK yet. Because reasons..? You could always try to VPN to the US, but I've seen people say that doesn't work unless you also have a US address and payment method on the account too. I was reasonably interested in it, but I can't be fussed with Disney+, so I'm just going to pass on it. I already have Prime Video and Netflix, I'm not signing up for anything else.

I did read that in the UK it's something to do with Sky holding the rights for some movies for now. Your "adding movies later" suggestion is obviously too sensible, as would timing production of content and deal expiry to enable a worldwide launch. It's not as if Bob Iger woke up a couple of months back and decided that Disney+ was going to launch in November because it seemed like a good time. FishCustard Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Watched the first episode of the BBC's War of the Worlds yesterday - very good. We couldn't help but hum the Jeff Wayne music at appropriate times though. I wonder how well they'll balance the Martians against the humans - in the original story the British military does reasonably well against them initially, harrying the tripods all the way to London and taking out a few (the issue was that they moved too quickly for inaccurate artillery to zero in on them). Adaptations tend to make the Martians more threatening and/or the military less useful. Of course, you need to do that if you update the setting - the original tripods would be ripped apart by modern weaponry.

CHiLL Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Watched ep1 of War of the Worlds last night - enoyed it. You can tell that they didn't have a large CGI budget, but I enjoyed it anyway. I also watched ep4 of His Dark Materials - really enjoying this show. I did notice that Harry Edward Melling (Dudley from Harry Potter) appeared in both shows!

I'm unsure about the whole "post-apocalyptic Earth" stuff in TWOTW to be honest - if they wanted to add to the story (which I don't object to in principle at all!) I'd much rather see Mars and more about the Martian civilisation than yet another post apocalyptic wasteland. Like... isn't every other story some post-apocalyptic dystopia these days? Can we have some variety?
