It's more that I don't see how the whole "cyclical murders" bit can make sense in a non-supernatural world. Though I've always wanted to see a show that started "normally" but later turned out to be a horror show that, if you rewatched the first seasons, had all the clues in plain sight. Ludwig seems more of a "we'll work out the answers as we go along and if we know we have to wrap it up we'll cobble something together" deal. Of course, not many shows get to wrap up - they just get cancelled.

Finished German comedy Cr*p Happens on Netflix, which was fun and featured a lot of wth? humour. Also finished Ludwig season two on iPlayer. OK, but I feel that the arc plot will never get a sensible conclusion.

Wildwood (Cinema) When crows take her baby brother into the Impassible Wilderness a young girl and a boy from her school set out to rescue him. Absolutely brilliant movie; well worth a trip out for. It is kinda dark though and easily earns its 12A rating.

It's not often that I think more than "that's sad" when a star dies, but this one has actually made me feel sad.

The Deb. (Sky Movies). After a protest at her school, a would-be podcaster is sent to stay with her family in rural Australia. She is horrified to learn that they still hold a debutante ball but her cousin really wants her chance to shine. I'm not sure whether my soundbar just wasn't up to snuff, or if it was the audio compression or just a bad job on the sound mix but a lot of the lyrics in this musical were too hard to make out. The songs are very forgettable, though starting a movie with a song entitled FML (not sung as an abbreviation) was amusing - shame the "problems" of most of the singers are (deliberately) not really problems. It's also one of those movies that wants to be feminist but still features a lot of young ladies in push-up bras and short shorts Apparently this is based on a stage musical - I wouldn't be surprised if the "Spotlight" song copied the stage production and it feels as if was cut for brevity with a couple of subplots getting short shrift (we never find out the whole story about the town spinster/deb organiser) and I can't believe there wasn't a "let get this venue ready" number. Still. not a bad first film as director/star/writer from Rebel Wilson. Shame it seems to have been mired in legal complications (Rebel Wilson is turning out to be a litigious as Harlan Ellison) as well as other complications (Neil Gaiman/bath type stories).

Finished Neagley on Prime Video. Entertaining but it was obvious what was going on from ep 1 and the amount of bodies that team left in their wake should have seen them locked up for life. Or, it being America, at least in court for the rest of their lives. Still, enough twists and turns to keep me amused.

In the Grey (Prime Video) A group of recovery experts set out to recover a billion that a criminal has failed to pay back. Not good. Way too much voice over to explain the plan and multiple escape options which the audience knows will go wrong anyway. If you just want to watch Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenall or the lovely Eiza Gonzalez there are better options.

Below (Netflix). Trailer gets loud! A mysterious iceberg appears near an isolated Newfoundland fishing community and something in the water threatens to destroy the town. Entertaining miniseries that has a lot in common with The Swarm including a cast member in Alexander Karim, who plays a scientist in both. However this is much more of a creature feature apart from Episode 5 which goes off on a tangent (possibly a setup for a spin-off?).

Blast, a Tamil action film that has a family of karate experts taking on a criminal gang. The film stock on this looked a bit off and it was waaaaaaaaaay too long (the main plot took an hour to get going) but it had its moments.

They were still wanting me to buy stuff last week.

Cold Storage (Sky Movies) A part of Skylab brought a deadly substance back with it, so the US buried it in a storage facility. One that in the present day has a commercial unit above it and the decades and climate change have degraded the integrity of the original storage... Quite a fun horror with some comedic moments. Most of the cast apart from Steve from "Stranger Things" are from this side of the pond.
