  1. As per usual - FileBrowser. Allows connection to SMB shares, with user/pass prompt-on-demand... depends on your workflow / what apps you want to use as to whether it'll work with them tho. Typically, create new document within FileBrowser in your home directory, use "Open-In" to open it in your app of choice, and then hope that app then supports save back. 2. Are your existing two boxes both Sky+ boxes? If so, then you're maxed out on adding additional boxes unless you replace your LNB for one with more than 4 sockets (as each Sky+ box consumes 2x sockets, so you'd need to upgrade to a 6 port or 8 port LNB). Once you've done that, you can just purchase another Sky+ box (used) off eBay, and ring Sky for another card (which may incur a small fee). If on the other hand you have 1x Sky+ box and 1x standard (white) Sky box, then you should have a single socket leftover for a further standard (white) Sky box. Again, just buy a used box from eBay and call Sky to have a further viewing card issued.

  4. There are no streaming services you can use legitimately. Is it for educational use, or is it for background music? This affects your options. Re: ripping MP3s from CDs... only if the school purchased the CD.
  5. We're definitely using OWA for iPad with Exch2010 & 2013 hosted onsite without any issues... but as an alternative... If you've got a web server handy upon which you can drop a quick pile of PHP you can use https://github.com/jamesiarmes/php-ews Save the below as calendar.php somewhere publicly accessible on the server, then bash a link to webcal://your.website.add/pathto/calendar.php - click the link on any device supporting webcal:// protocol, and you'll get the prompt to add it into whatever the default calendar app is. For webcal users (iOS & OSX support natively thru Calendar.app, Windows users via Outlook installed or another webcal associated client, Android & Blackberry via plethora of iCal / webcal client apps), a link to the above script. For gMail users (this is probably what Android users will end up going for), https://www.google.com/calendar/render?cid=webcal://www.yourwebserver.co.uk/rss/calendar.php&safe=vss (which passes the webcal protocol link directly to Google Calendar, giving google account holders the chance to subscribe through Google's systems, rather than needing to give them instructions for manually adding the URL). For our OWA users, https://our.mailserver.co.uk/owa/[email protected]/?cmd=contents&module=calendar&view=monthly where [email protected] represents the email account tied to the shared calendar in question. Anyone who has subscribed in OWA for desktop, when they login to OWA for iPad (the app) or your OWA URL via Safari, any calendars they've already subscribed to will be there by default. OWA for iPhone apparently still only connects to Office365. We also have a separate set of links that share our exams calendar, and another which just covers term-dates, and another which just covers public events, as well as the main links above which essentially provide all of those in a single calendar.
  6. Both osticket and magento support authentication (either natively or by plugins) against AD via Kerberos under LAMP... If all your other webservices do, then that's (literally) the ticket.
  7. Some do, some don't, some send separate specialised content to the 2nd display rather than mirroring the iPad screen, some send just the sound with no video (in the case of licensed video content for instance such as SkyGo)... As with all apps, before use in the classroom, test! Tis the only way to know whether the app your staff want to use is useable in the way they want to use it.

  9. 100mb each way here...

  11. Yep, that'd do it - both lighting flicker from power wave not matching camera fps, and just the change in ambient light (all the camera usually does is look at pixels from frame to frame for a change). Is there a frequency selector on the camera to switch from 60Hz to 50Hz / vice versa? If so, ensure it's on 60Hz iirc for US use. You should be able to define the AREA of motion detection on a per-camera basis rather than using the entire picture... so that you can block out anything likely to trigger such as your lights.
  12. Set up adobe media encoder on a machine to watch an inbox folder on the NAS, set it to recompress all content as 1080p H264 MP4 at 5Mb/sec video rate, 160kbps audio... Or if it's a QNAP NAS, turn on it's video transcoding. Kids just need to be aware that there'll be a delay so staff should plan lessons accordingly - ie: ensure everyone's footage for next week's lesson is uploaded by end of day to ensure it's compressed and available for editing. Alternatively (better IMO) transfer from camera to local drive and have media encoder running on each machine watching and auto-recompressing.
  13. Definitely...!
  14. Set each share up as a NAS box rather than a PC, with SMB Pipelining turned on. Should work fine with more or less any setup... those must be some very oddball restrictions.
  15. 2.5 or 2.6... uses the new Twitter Bootstrap base theme that went into core in 2.5 by the look of the login form input controls and css classes used. Shame it's not a responsive theme, nor does it flip to a mobile theme, which kinda lets it down seeing as Bootstrap is there to allow for it...
  16. Seemis Click & Go - completely different software to CMIS... last cropped up 6 yrs ago!
  17. Your IT guys need to liaise with county to sort the issue. I severely doubt they'll allow Mac based bypassing on a grid-foundation connection. I don't recommend starting the conversation with 'we want you to do this...' - make it a clear request rather than an instruction - 'we've got xxxx devices - what is your supported method of use?' and see what they say, then take it from there.
  18. Just to point out (based on the joys of the past few days) - all the above are still issues in current vers of SIMS with latest vers of Office *prepares to throw something through the window*
  19. No issues here in the past 3 years really - several large format MFDs, several regular MFDs, and all lasers throughout the school. Support calls are always speedily dealt with. If an engineer is needed on site, here within 48hrs tops, usually same day tho. Full accounted printing with cost centres per dept etc... email to print for mobile devices... scan to email, scan to mydocs etc all working fine... job ticketing to submit large complex jobs to our repro team...

  22. I think the cable from the second socket is plugged into it... not wired into the back of it. As in: take a Cat5 cable, put an RJ45 on one end, and a wall box on the other end. The RJ45 end is plugged into socket 2 and it merely acts as an extension for it's originating socket.
  23. I know plenty (well, at least 5) of people here 'up North' who fulfil all the criteria (& more besides, with many years experience), but... everyone I know with these levels of experience (myself included) are mid30s to mid40s with families / working partners / mortgage, getting paid almost what you're offering to fulfil DM role in a SINGLE school, who adapted into that role many years ago and have no particularly relevant qualifications beyond O-Level/GCSE & ECDL. Add in to the equation [1] it's London, and [2] you'd be asking them to support up to 27 establishments - the money wouldn't be enough. Asking for a Degree and SQL Server experience is too limiting. A knowledge of SQL query language, yes. A knowledge of SQL Server? No - IT Support's dept. If no locally suitable candidates are making themselves apparent, up the cash, or reduce the Experience & wage and just look for SIMS experience imo.
  24. Used to be a case (in 5, last ver I used) of saving as a template, then educating kids to pick the right template from the dialogue which appears after file > new / on load... after creating on one PC, copy the template out to the rest. Device settings and IO routing are all set and saved in the project/template. Can go to the lengths of setting up predefined fx presets, desk channel input labels, predefined instruments auto loaded etc. A la http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/oct10/articles/cubase-technique-1010.htm Nb: if the stock templates don't show up before you start on the above, cubase wasn't installed for all users. During install process hit customise and tick the box to install for all users.
  25. PM me your code fella... and workflow. Check for tick box & it's status on pageload? Or watch tick box for an event? Or both?
