Ah ... just done a single machine test (Windows 7, 32-bit) and it does include Adobe AIR but something corrupts in the install. It's signposted from Scratch's download section too, so thought it stood a good chance of being legit. Might be worth testing in another environment to see if it's just us!

Not sure if I'm late to the party with this, but there's an MSI file for Scratch 2.0 at Scratch MSI by LLK I haven't tested yet ... has anyone else used it?

Hehe, I bet they do! I approached the stand last year with a cheery hello to be met with a doubtful "are you an Edugeeker?". Fortunately either you or witch were there to vouch for me :-) I must've been wearing the wrong perfume that day lol!!

Ok so when I approach the Edugeek stand looking like the least likely Edugeeker ever I will flash my edugeek lanyard or something as a sign it is really me ;-) Cos I flipping love those badges!

+1 for disassembling a computer. When I've done this, it works well by first asking children to predict what they think they are going to see inside - they will usually come up with ideas such as batteries, wires, lights, magnets.Then I'd take the case off and see how many of their predictions are correct. Next, I'd point out the processor, RAM, hard drive, motherboard, data busses etc - if you have a visualiser or iPad you can Aiplay, it helps to have this projected onto a whiteboard or screen to make it bigger as it can be quite hard otherwise for kids to see everything. Then you can hand over to the teacher to do a task such as making a poster or diagram of the inside of a computer and labelling the key parts. I use a site such as http://computer.howstuffworks.com/pc1.htm for the technical definitions of things, but make it more child friendly by describing the hard drive with a storage analogy, the RAM being not like human memory because it is completely wiped when you switch the computer off, and the processor as the engine which does all the work. This is a bit over-simplified, but I find a level of abstraction is needed at primary level so as to give an overview without getting too technical.

There are a lot of activities which can be delivered "unplugged" as well, e.g. search algorithms, sorting algorithms etc. Coding has taken the headlines for the new curriculum, but underlying concept which pulls all the curriculum together is Computational Thinking. A lot of the skills for this are learned through coding but also through teamwork, activities and challenges as well.
