NEC ML530's did the same... usually pop the lid off, flip the clear CMOS jumper, and they'd fire straight up again. Some would terminally corrupt their BIOS, so swapping the bios chip for a preprogrammed spare became most convenient quick fix.

Buy one copy of mainstage, download, install & run to get the loops to download (separately), then just grab the loops from the library folder, and copy across to all the garageband-only macs, log off, log back on, run Garageband. Done. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1045 (or read a bit further, join the VPP program for education, and just get as many copies as you have Macs with discount)

Moodle Resource id #8 Bind Result error with ldap user accounts
Marci replied to gaz003's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Try it as follows... make sure your domain is correct on the end of distinguished name and that ldaplink is a valid activated user account... and that your staff contexts are correct. Host Url: ldap://172.16.0.1 (presuming this is the correct IP address for your Domain Controller... if it's the same machine, then localhost or 127.0.0.1 should work) Version: 3 ldap encoding: utf-8 Distinguished Name: [email protected] user type: msactive directory contexts: ou=staff users,dc=augustines,dc=school,dc=local Search sub contexts: yes User attribute: samaccountname firstname: givenName surname: sn -
We support anything that hits our web server.... thanks to BYOD for both staff and students, we have to cater for every possibility, so yes, that means having legacy versions of our website and webapps hanging around that have to be maintained as well as our latest dogs-danglies html5 versions. The academy's own devices run anything from IE8 thru 10 depending which network they're on. Some machines also run Firefox or Chrome. But with everyone moving towards BYOD, asking what versions folks are supporting becomes redundant. We have to ensure it works on as many platforms and browsers as possible and thus rely on serverside detection to forward clients to the most suited version of our sites, and then client side feature support sniffing within each version to work out the finer grained stuff (yepnope and modernizr).

(Except the general Airprint protocol iirc doesn't support accounting...) We use Konica Minolta's Email-to-Print service... which allows the correct cost centers to be billed according to the user. Altho KM didn't get it up and running properly so we're still trying to iron out the issues.

Thoughts on using TV displays in place of IWBs
Marci replied to crc-ict's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
You're fine on those numbers... on the other hand we have at least 200 iPads and 50+ AppleTVs, along with all the other mobile devices across all platforms... when you get up to these kind of numbers the Bonjour traffic can be quite horrendous, resulting in devices vanishing off the network as another device has reported it can't be seen thus resulting in all devices dropping it etc. -

Marci replied to crc-ict's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Yes... lots... documented with white papers by Cisco etc. You end up subnetting off each building/area and deploying Bonjour gateways to reduce the traffic to local areas. See http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps4570/products_tech_note09186a0080bb1d7c.shtml -

Time is just the easiest to rule out of a list of MANY things... check the logs via Utilities > Console on both server and client and copy and paste the lines of relevance.

Auth_token can be rather essential so if it's giving issues than that may well be it. First step - make sure the MacMini Server & your iMac are set to use your main Windows Domain Controller as the time server - if time goes out of sync between them by more than a set amount then authtokens become invalid.

1) Implement helpdesk / jobqueue system. 2) Email to all heads of departments requesting they report any ongoing concerns with existing hardware / software that they're aware of, and also to introduce yourself. 3) Wander round with notepad - audit. If there's already an audit, take it with you as there's no guarantee it's right. Note make, model, (if poss serial number & firmware versions) and locations of everything so you can start a network map. 4) Software audit. What licenses do you have, what licenses DON'T you have, what licenses don't you have enough of. 5) Start documentation... if there isn't any then the last person didn't fulfil their obligations regarding succession planning. Don't make the same mistake. Use that as your longer term initial objectives... fix whatever cocks up in the meantime.

That'd suggest to me it's an issue inside your Office installation rather than with printer driver etc... I know for certain Powerpoint has options to prevent it from printing text boxes & effects by default, but am unsure about the rest (and pointless me hunting for you here as I'm on OSX)
-
Yeah, CutePDF or anything else that installs itself as a printer driver that writes to a file... rather than MS's internal save-to-PDF mechanism.
-
Not much help, I know, but prints out perfectly to ours... What happens when you print to PDF, rather than saving to PDF (if you have that option available to you)?

Per chance this: Recover Tab & RecoverAssist Whitepaper | BackupAssist ?

...and how many op-hours are on each... and when did they last have optics cleaned? First thing I'd be suspecting is dust buildup on internal mirrors for the dim projector.

Check out Evaluating your School Website | Clerk to Governors to ensure your website is up to scratch...

Just make sure you meet the latest legislation changes (Sept2012) for compulsory school info displayed on website... if not you may get a visit (if the site is your responsibility). Otherwise, be aware of your disaster recovery protocols, esafety & safeguarding policies, and your AUP, then put your feet up & make a brew knowing your prepped for anything they're likely to ask you should they deem it fit to doso.

Am just doing it all via Microtik's TheDude... network map / snmp monitoring / custom actions. Right click a server on the map, set it up as an action and it's in the context menu (along with choices of rdp / ssh / telnet / web interface depending on the device / services configured) Just takes some work to get it all setup to work for you (submaps for rooms, which devices are actively monitored, which default to host name access vs IP access, etc. it's as powerful as you choose to make it... but I recommend ignoring all it's discovery features and do it all by hand)
-
That would do it, yep.

Pastes of the SQL statements that update / insert into the database would be essential here. Essentially sounds like you're using an UPDATE when you should be using an INSERT INTO basically... and some of your javascript functionality (eg: onfocus within the "title" input) is incorrect.

Can profile manager and WGM coincide within the same server
Marci replied to tobiasclarity's topic in Mac
No probs here using both simultaneously on a single server and same set of clients... some stuff simply isn't manageable by Profile Manager so HAS to be done via WGM as far as I'm concerned. Thus far, not come across any issues to be aware of. -
Rolf Harris questioned in Yewtree sex offence probe
Marci replied to Grey-gear's topic in General Chat
Technically, arrest !== guilt either... altho these days I think 'guilt' is determined by a quick glance at twitter trends anyways. -
Hmmm - MagicInfo is an odd breed, and we found it's timer functions really couldn't be relied upon so I ended up doing things differently. Our screens are effectively on 24/7. Instead, one of our screen layouts within MagicInfo switches the panel off and then we just schedule this to be displayed outside operational hours. Create a new screen within MagicInfo, expand Background & select "Screen". Now in the table below the screen preview/layout area, select "Panel Off" in the Source List, and save the layout. Now simply pop this in your schedule whenever you want the display to be "off".
