  1. Misco. But don't expect anyone to massively undercut the price you can get them direct from Apple from with educational discount unless they're refurbs / used.
  2. I'd also suggest a separate vlan with it's own dhcp and dns, with each device allocated ip via dhcp reservation, and a proxy set to ident by IP, that way you can still filter net access by IP range etc, and ensure staff keep a record of which student uses which device during the lesson (if they're for student use) or you have a list of which member of staff has which device by MAC id (if they're for staff use) so that you can identify users from their IP in the logs. In these instances, use MDM to prevent changes to network config. Add extra NICs/virtual adapters for the new vlan to any local servers you may need to access, ensuring that you can't route thru to traverse onto other vlans, to retain access to network shares / local web services.
  3. Thanks to no VPP system in place for UK yet, you have two choices. Users are issued a voucher to purchase required apps... and devices are used as personal devices, Or... Try to use them as shared devices where a master iPad is used to purchase apps. Back it up in iTunes. Set all other iPads up as a restore of the master. Use voucher to cover cost of apps, don't tie your institution account to a credit/debit card. In 'store' preferences tell each iPad to auto download new purchases, then you simply purchase an app on the master iPad and it'll automagically appear on the others, or leave it off and manually kick off a wifi sync for each device when new apps are purchased. You'll need master accounts for every group of ten devices. Then delve into the restriction settings in profile manager to prevent users doing anything you'd rather they didn't. If going with first option, set up a course on your VLE with links to necessary apps and setup guides (eg: guide to adding AD shares in FileBrowser app), but pre enrol each device with MDM before handout so that you can manage the device (remote lock / wipe, minimum passcode strength settings etc) Whilst MDM implies & refers to the ability to deploy apps, this only works for self-authored enterprise apps, not regular AppStore apps.

  5. That to me says it has an internal 2a slowblow, so I'd put a 3a or 5a in the plug.

  7. If memory serves, there aren't any apps that will mirror an iOS device's Springboard onto a desktop workstation legitimately. They only exist in the land of jailbreaks. The 'correct' solution is an AppleTV2 or 3 connected to the projector, joined to the same network as the iPad, then just switch projector inputs when you want to display iPad / aTV instead of workstation.
  8. Authenticated Proxies will usually cause issues... many apps etc use https, and iOS doesn't cache / remember https proxy auth details. It'll hold them for a single connection, but then prompt for the next, which can result in many prompts to enter user and pass per hour. You'll generally need to set up a separate proxy which uses IP-based identification with no auth, and a proxy.pac file so that you can cover local exceptions.

  11. Cubase uses ASIO drivers to access the soundcard rather than the straight windows drivers. On modern machines with auto jack sensing, it doesn't detect a valid input device unless something is plugged into an input socket. Thus you need to install asio4all, then head into cubase and select the asio4all driver within vst connections. The asio4all driver can force enable inputs. Grab a Cubase disc, open the demo file contained, and use that to play with so that you have a working sound source to play to confirm you have the ASIO driver selected etc. Google is your friend: cubase asio4all howto - Google Search As for the keyboards, you won't hear anything from pressing the keys on the keyboard unless you've got a midi track created, assigned to an active vst instrument, and selected. For this bit it's RTM. But you'll get nowhere with that til the first issue is corrected.

  13. We have this up and running here with AppleTV2 and iPad2 for staff... AppleTV > HDMI wall panel > HDMI socket on projector. Audio Out on projector back down the loom to audio in on your amp. AppleTV will require internet access, but doesn't support proxies at all, authenticated or otherwise, so ensure that it has access to net. Turn on parental controls on the AppleTV and pinprotect them, then disable/hide everything within Parental Controls that you don't want folks to use (which tends to be everything - at the end of the day, all most will want it for is a wireless airplay receiver) Ensure that the AppleTV is signed out of iTunes etc. Doesn't need any accounts to be programmed into it. Set an airplay password, and rename the AppleTV to something relevant (whether that's to the room it's in, or the staff member it's allocated to depends how you've allocated the devices). AppleTV needs to be on same subnet as the iPad. Done. Turn it all on... turn on display Airplay and Display Mirroring on the iPad. Voila. Whatever is on the iPad's screen is on the projector. If the app specifically supports dual screen then you will get that functionality. If not, it'll behave like a PC does in mirror mode. Train staff to identify and push the aspect ratio button on the projector remote, as it'll need to be in 4:3 mode, not 16:9 mode to make best use of screen real estate. There are no wireless-enabled projectors (or flat panel TVs) that work as a proper airplay receiver (YET) that I'm aware of, so don't fall into the trap of buying one and expecting it to work. AppleTV2 / 3 is only usable wire-free solution, and only with iPad 2 & 3.
  14. You mean like these: © Ossett Academy 2012 - Virtual Tour ? Panoramic photo + Panosalado (PanoSalado) Flash dependant with no suitable JS alternatives that I could find when last I looked. They've been on our site for about 5 years, see very little traffic, and will in all likelihood be scrapped when we redesign later this year. If heading down the 3D Animation route, Google Sketchup can do it for a total of zero pounds. Personal opinion? Pay a pro-photographer to come in and do photoshoots of all areas you want to promote (obv after a thorough clean up)... and stick with a good old photo gallery. It'll look infinitely better than amateur shot panoramas, or Sketch'dup 3D.
  15. Indeed. I use cPanel here, where apache runs as 'nobody'... just to complicate matters further!
  16. I think the sensible approach is that if clamscan or clamdscan return anything OTHER than '$file: OK', then the upload should be disallowed, whereas at the moment, if clamdscan returns access denied, or clamscan returns an "I'm out of date" warning then the file could still go thru, virus or otherwise... function ClamAV($file){ $out = preg_split('/\n/',`clamscan $file`); //or clamdscan $file foreach($out as $key=>$value){ $referr = strstr($value,$file); if ($referr){ $location = $key; if (strpos($referr,'FOUND')){ $this->status = 'VIRUS DETECTED: '.$out[$key]; return true; } elseif (strpos($referr,'ERROR')){ $this->status = 'CANNOT SCAN FILE: '.$out[$key]; return true; } elseif (strpos($referr,''.$file.': OK')){ return false; } else { return true; } } } if (!$location) { $this->status = 'No valid response received from ClamAV - please contact your webmaster'; return true; } } Returning 'false' is the ticket to the file being uploaded succesfully. In the above, this only happens if: 1) The $out array (which contains each individual line of response from clamav) contains a value which features the $file variable as a string... AND 2) That same value also contains " OK".
  17. Clamdscan runs as 'User clam' by default here, hence it can't read files in the webroot, whereas when run from CLI, it tends to be run by yourself / root / user in the wheel group so works fine... have a look at your /etc/clamd.conf, somewhere around line 189.
  18. Heh - both working on same hacky fix at same hacky time! This was mine: function ClamAV($file){ $out = preg_split('/\n/',`clamscan $file`); foreach($out as $key=>$value){ $referr = strstr($value,$file); if ($referr){ $location = $key; if (strpos($referr,'FOUND')){ $this->status = 'VIRUS DETECTED: '.$out[$key]; if ($location!==0){$this->status .= ' Your ClamAV engine or database may be outdated or has an issue';} return true; } else { if ($location!==0){$this->status = 'Your file was succesfully uploaded, however, your ClamAV engine or database may be outdated or has an issue';} return false; } } } if (!$location) { $this->status = 'No valid response received from ClamAV - please contact your webmaster'; } }
  19. Righty - can confirm it works fine for me and reports virii correctly, however, for it to do so I had to make a slight change... in class_smbwebclient.php, comment out the current ClamAV function, and replace it as follows then give it another try: /* function ClamAV ($file) { $out = preg_split('/\n/',`clamscan $file`); if (preg_match('/^'.$file.': (.*) FOUND$/', $out[0], $regs)) { $this->status = 'VIRUS: '.$regs[1]; return true; } else { return false; } } */ function ClamAV($file) { $out = preg_split('/\n/',`clamscan $file`); if (strpos($out[0],'FOUND')){ $this->status = 'VIRUS DETECTED: '.$out[0]; return true; } else { return false; } } For some reason the preg_match statement was throwing an invalid modifier, or simply didn't detect the FOUND string. ALSO, for info, smb_web_client only checks the FIRST line of the response from 'clamscan $file', so if at CLI this comes back with anything other than '/path/file: verdict' then the file's scan results won't actually be seen by smb_web_client, and it'll say all is fine, even tho on the 5th line of clamscan's response it may state that a virus is found. Really the function needs modifying to iterate thru each line of $out and look for a line whose beginning matches $file and take the array pointer for that line instead of always using $out[0] incase of out-of-date DBs etc.
  20. Pete - in your config_smb_web_client file, what do you have for the $smb_cfg->cfgAntivirus entry? Whatever is in there becomes the name of the function called, and the function is entitled ClamAV so config must state ClamAV case sensitively. ie: ClamAV should work, whereas clamav won't work... Specifically, here's the code used on new file uploads: $smb_cfg->cfgAntivirus = 'ClamAV'; function NewFileAction () { if ($_FILES['file']['tmp_name'] <> '') { $this->parent = $this->path; $this->name = $_FILES['file']['name']; if ($this->cfgAntivirus) { $fn = $this->cfgAntivirus; $infected = $this->$fn($_FILES['file']['tmp_name']); } if (! $infected) { $this->UploadFile($_FILES['file']['tmp_name']); $this->Debug('new file "'.$this->name); } } if ($this->status <> '') $this->ErrorMessage($this->status); header('Location: '.$this->FromPath('.')); exit; } function ClamAV ($file) { $out = preg_split('/\n/',`clamscan $file`); if (preg_match('/^'.$file.': (.*) FOUND$/', $out[0], $regs)) { $this->status = 'VIRUS: '.$regs[1]; return true; } else { return false; } }
  21. I have a tendency to cheat that by overriding Apple's DNS entries in /etc/hosts and redirecting to your own DC... That way updates can change the address all they want, it'll just end up at your DC regardless. Brutal, but it works.
  22. If connected to local network, Filebrowser app (by Stratospherix) allows connection to windows shares, and integrates with quick office to allow save-back. If not on local network, blocks such as SMBWebClient for Moodle can allow read access to windows shares via web, and users can then email saved files back to themselves to copy back onto network at a later point in time. Alternatively, Filebrowser can operate over VPN to allow access remotely. What we need now is for FileBrowser / CloudOn integration so that we can ditch QuickOffice.
  23. Yep... Full manual approval required on new submissions so it'll take a while... But, if you fire me your email address by PM on here I can hook you up with a download linky.
