We forward dated the redirects to 2036, but ParentPay's comms suggested there would be a hard deadline beyond which redirects would be forced. I asked support this and couldn't get a straightforward answer, hence my mention of "mess". We had an email yesterday from ParentPay telling us there were issues with our redirects that "muts be resolved", but no clear detail on what. I raised that with support and have been told that nothing's wrong. Suffice to say, ParentPay's SIMS product management aren't doing themselves any favours.

We have EduLink One as well, and when I've used it for comparitive functions e.g. searching for student data, I've found EduLink so much quicker to use, and better laid out. Very few staff here are using Next Gen, but that's partly because they're used to SIMS7 and EduLink. ParentPay have tried to force usage Next Gen by redirecting parts of SIMS7 to it instead. You could opt out, but the communication and handling of that was and still is a mess. I haven't been following it, but the SLT staff here involved with reviewing Next Gen have said that ParentPay aren't keeping up with their timeline of feature implementation. We're planning a second look at Arbor this year, ahead of our SIMS renewal in a year or so.

Hmm, that might also be where our SEN department got this 31 years. I've asked our county legal team, and they say that 25 years is fine (and sits in the middle-ish of their 22 and the old 31 year recommendation). Legal issues aside with the 6 year hold.

Thanks for the reply. IRMS essentially have dob + 25 for everything SEN related, including what they call a "statement", although an EHCP seems to have replaced that desciption since 2014.

Hi folks, How long are you keeping SEND files for students? IRMS says dob + 25 years, although to keep any files a further 6 years if there is any legal action. Our SENCO things it's dob + 25 years + 6 years, but I think this has been confused with the + 6 years from legal action. Our county legal team have dob + 22 years in their model retention template. Just to check if anyone is doing something different to dob + 25 years and what the reason for that is. Or equally, if you are also doing dob + 25 years? Thanks

We upgraded an old Ruckus system with a controller to Unleashed with mostly R650 APs. We do have one T350 outdoor AP. I had mixed feelings about going with Ruckus because of their organisational changes, but our previous Ruckus system had been so reliable I took the risk. The APs don't seem quite as powerful as what we had previously, and we have had the odd AP rarely seem to go offline (fixed with a reboot). Other than that it still seems to be pretty good. We're currently on 200.18.7.101.244. We don't use PoE, the APs have separate PSUs. How long have you had this system?

We found that seemingly between a Logic version change it reinstalled itself. We MacOS with AD accounts, so were able to prune old profiles to a point, but then had to wipe and reinstall. Suffice to say our next Mac purchase will have bigger drives.

I've asked Parent Pay support but can't get an answer to what happens if we defer them "forever" i.e. put a date in for a few years time.

Hi folks, This is something I'm trying to do on my home computer, to sync a local folder with OneDrive. Both ChatGPT and google say it can be done using the MKLINK /J command, but although the linked folder appears in OneDrive on the PC, it doesn't appear in OneDrive (having checked almost 24 hours later). Anyone else got MKLINK to work, or know of an alternative way to get it working? Thanks

Not uncommon the Monday morning after a holiday. You'd think they would have sorted the capacity by now...

We had it happen, particularly with low powered laptops to the point where they were unusable for web browsing. Seems better on medium specced laptops, although I didn't research it much. Interested to hear if you find a solution.

Hi folks, I recently replaced the batteries on our two HP R/T3000 G5 UPS's as they had hit the four year point and were giving replacement audible alarms (I suppose an email alert would have been too useful HP?! Thankfully we have staff that sit outside the server room (cupboard)). The battery packs were replaced with the relevant HP part and I followed both the manual and a YouTube video. Although they're hot swappable, and we have each UPS connected to the redudant power supplies of the relevant hardware, I didn't risk it and shut everything down. Three weird things happened: 1. When the packs were disconnected, the front panel on both UPS's still showed the battery at 100%. No alarms. Nothing. The pack must have been disconnected for at least 2-3 minutes during the swap. Has anyone else find this with a battery swap? 2. Once the pack was replaced, still no alerts or alarms. The manual implies that the UPS will automatically prompt with a test, which it didn't, although I did find the test in a menu and ran it without issue. Has anyone else experienced this as well? 3. I'm sure the manual mentioned resetting the battery life monitoring, so that it will prompt again in four years, but I can find nothing in the menu that will do this other than something vague about resetting power usage. Does anyone know where this setting is, if HP haven't changed things and automated it? On the basis it didn't detect the battery had been removed I'm not counting my chickens. I'm going to contact HPE support with the same questions anyway, but it would be great to hear what others have practically found. Thanks!

PRTG (up to 100 sensors are free) and The Dude (you need the old 4.0 beta version of this, otherwise it requires Mikrotik hardware). The former is more for the away-from-site monitoring, and the latter we have up on a screen in the office as we also use it to keep an eye on LAN and internet load.

No beliggerent closed-mindedness here. For us it was very much a team decision, looking at what we wanted to achieve from an MIS, involving both teaching and support staff.
