    Farewell

Hello there Edugeeks The time has come to say farewell. After 15 years in the 'trade', I'm leaving my job and educational IT behind to focus on a new venture. They way IT has changed over the years has lessened it's appeal to me and I've decided to make a clean break and start up my own business as a mobile caravan and motorhome service engineer. It's my last day in school today, two days this week working off-site and a few days handover in the summer and I'm done. Thanks for all the entertainment, info and support over the years. Goodbye Edugeek, you're one of the good ones. Cheers!
  2. I'm leaving my school in early August to pursue a different direction, so my job is now being advertised. Interesting opportunity for full-time NM in a large Primary school. This is not your 'typical' primary school and this will be a great post for the right person. Note the short time to the closing date! You can PM me for info about the role, although anything to do with the recruitment process needs to be directed to the school. IT Manager Job summary Salary Grade 7-8 (£22,462 - £27,905 per annum) Location Vale School, Worthing Address Vale School, Vale Avenue, Worthing, West Sussex, BN14 0DB Website http://www.vale.w-sussex.sch.uk Email [email protected] Telephone No 01903 872322 Required From Immediate Contract Permanent, Full-time 35-37 hours per week Vale School Governors are seeking to appoint an IT Manager to join our hardworking and dedicated staff with immediate effect. This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy and supportive team in a large primary school. The post is for 35/37 hours per week, working a minimum of 46 weeks up to 52 weeks per year - hours and weeks negotiable. The annual salary will be West Sussex Grade 7/8 (£22,462 - £27,905 per annum) pro rata. 3. Good luck with it. Webcams are almost impossible to get hold of at the moment, and prices are astronomical. We've been forced to pay £40+ each for cheap Chinese cams off Amazon that would have cost about £15 before all this. And that's not the worst I've seen - one supplier was listing obviously low-grade Chinese units at £80 each. And still they went out of stock almost immediately. Headsets are almost as bad if you don't want Gaming ones with RGB and military names!
  4. Just to note that the separate RCD idea only works if it is a separate RCD protected supply from the mains at the distribution board. There is no point putting an additional RCD in-line* if you take the supply from a spur, as both the main and spur RCDs would trip together. *caveat on this is if you have an old distribution board with a 100mA trip RCD, in which case a modern 30mA trip RCD downstream would be worthwhile on the outside supply. But really you should consider replacing the DB for safety sake if the main RCD is 100mA trip.
  5. Yes, there seems to be a lot of clamour for having webcams at the moment for these sort of meetings. Really not sure why it's considered so essential for all the participants to be seen, in fact I think it's a bit of a distraction actually. Something like this I reckon would be much better with just the 'chair' having a camera active.
  6. Aren't these pupils already covered in the group that can still attend school anyway? Why the need for double provision?
  7. The question that urgently needs to be answered from things like is whether people who are carrying the virus asymptomatically can pass it on, and by what means.
  8. Is that when you've got a frog in your throat?!?!
  9. Definitely damage rather than fault. My money would be on picking up the laptop by that top corner of the display.
  10. Morning all, There are plans afoot here to completely redesign the layout of our main hall, which will basically involve turning the whole use of it round by 180 degrees. Coming out of this, there is a need to re-jig the stage lighting and hall AV implementation to accommodate. I'm after any recommendations of good companies that other schools have used for this sort of work. Looking for companies to bring in to discuss the plans, requirements etc and propose solutions. Needs to be a one-stop-shop who can do all of the stage lighting, the audio system and the visual displays as an integrated solution. Any suggestions? We are based in West Sussex, so firms covering the South East really. Thanks!
  11. I really hate how the world is going these days. Is nothing safe from P.C. do-gooders?
  12. Are they EES OVS licences? In which case, you should have access to the Volume Licence Servicing Centre site where you would be able to access MAK keys for Server 2012 R2. It's possibly that you have got the keys for the 2016 version which won't work to activate 2012 R2.
  13. Sorry, but that one won't fly with the GDPR police I'm afraid! You know, offshore transmission and all that! Nice idea though...
  14. Eventually managed to source one - Laptops Direct have a few silver ones available.
  15. Make sure to trial Kindle Fires with your setup before buying big though. Our after-school club provision here has some, and they are a pain the backside to get working properly with our filtering system
