  1. Another thumbs up for KRCS...
  2. We purchased a pile in bulk direct from Apple Store. Turned out that they hadn't activated them prior to shipping, so none of them worked, and it took well over 8 months to get it sorted so that we could use the thousand+ pounds worth of them. Finance had already handed them out to staff, and staff had scratched n' tried, but not paid any attention to the error msg in iTunes that says the card needs activating first (go to a link, type in the cards' serial number). These came back in in dribs n drabs, and no-one kept a record of cards that had been used etc, so we still to this day have a box of iTunes vouchers all with the back scratched off, and no idea whether they were used successfully or not. Only way to find out is to try them. As soon as we landed in the middle of that issue, we resorted to heading down to Sainsburys and buying them straight over the til. MUCH easier, with all cards ready to use immediately.
  3. Just google it - hells angels 1973 documentary There are loads of sources - usually are for anything the BBC post online. Regardless of which you go for, the act itself remains unlawful and a breach of copyright tho...
  4. Apple TV: TCP and UDP ports and protocols used
  5. Only way to fix an underused VLE is to make people use it by putting stuff on there... If they have no reason to log in and use it, it will inevitably be underused.
  6. Yup, more detail definitely required as to the specifics of the information that they won't show 'properly'. Screenshots / photos would help for instance. The software runs fine on Win7 and WinXP in terms of the managing machine, and doesn't make any difference at all to what they will or won't display. The OS / software on the MagicInfo screens themselves determine what they can and can't do.
  7. When our lass started out doing this we tried all the software to see if she could exploit the system to earn easy cash... none of them produced anything usable when dealing with more than one speaker, and on a phone-qual recording of a single voice, had an error rate of over 70%... If going manually from existing staff, find whoever in admin office has highest WPM typing speed, and get them a set of Olympus USB transcription pedals *nod nod*.
  8. Not forgetting that software won't be able to identify one speaker from another, won't handle acronyms unless trained to (which is voice specific), won't detect syballance (deps on audio quality), and will struggle with colloquialisms also. You'd have to get someone to proof and redo, and the total accumulated time would just end up being double the billable time for a pro to do it. Your LA will have a contact that they use for such purposes... or you could contract a freelancer like my better half at £1 per minute of audio.
  9. An Audio Transcriptionist is the only reliable method of doing this... (my partner does it for a living). You can get an agency involved who will arrange fees for one off files etc. Usually charged per minute of audio to be transcribed.
  10. Conference Tools - Twubs is another online service... or if you have the time & inclination you can grab the public timeline streaming api from Twitter API Programming Tips, Tutorials, Source Code Libraries and Consulting by Adam Green – 140Dev.com and apply mods (as mentioned on their frontpage) to get it to work with current twitter api, and that'll then scrape the twitter public timeline for your hashtag and drop them all into a MySQL database for you to do whatever you want with...
  11. Sorry, started googling for the script before your edit / other replies... the following could probably be popped into the stop function to check for locked files and kill the parent process causing the lock (altho you'd lose anything unsaved) if [ '/usr/bin/smbstatus | grep DENY | wc -l' != "0" ] then fuser -m -k /{mount path} fi
  12. If you're not on a dedicated host you should contact EasySpace support and notify them of the breach, as it may have compromised other accounts on the server.
  13. Lazy unmount on sleep / remount? See script at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi-support/+bug/24864/comments/3
  14. Is this a shared or dedicated host? First step is to make sure you've changed the MySQL User's password, and that your admin account for Wordpress doesn't use 'admin' as the username.
  15. On the contrary, bonjour broadcast traffic is rather immense, so the added load on wireless becomes rather large. AppleTVs on wired network rather than wireless will minimise lag etc. Blinky light means it's gone to sleep. If one device fails to access it & wake it up, it will report the fact to other devices (broadcast via bonjour) and the rest will then remove from their contactable list. As per yesterdays post on Apple TVs, refer to Bonjour deployment guide from Cisco etc and translate for your own particular infrastructure to get it all working properly - Bonjour gateways etc. Other handy resources: Avahi mDNS Gateway - http://avahi.org Some words on it - http://zerogb.wordpress.com/2013/03/05/avahi-mdns-gateway-configuration-2/ For an idea of a single device talking to an AppleTV - Mirroring (via AirParrot as Extended Desktop) my workstation to an AppleTV for a full work day, 8 til 4, produces 7.5Gb of traffic from the workstation to the AppleTV, and currently the mDNSResponder service on my Macbook is responding constantly to 292 servers (Bonjour clients, so AppleTVs / iPhones / iPads on the network) on TCP 443, and UDP 53, 1900, 5351, 5353, and 49000-65535. If my Macbook has been switched off overnight, I have to turn Airplay off and back on again to get the AppleTV to rebroadcast it's presence before the Macbook picks it up. If the Macbook sleeps overnight, then it sees the AppleTV immediately on wake without any further action needed. Recommend you leave the remotes near the AppleTVs, and instruct staff on heading to the Airplay menu in the short-term.
  16. That function is for use within core or for temporary fudges, and could end up deprecated without warning. The recommended method in a block / plugin etc is to check capabilities: If user is an admin... global $CFG; require_once($CFG->dirroot.'/lib/accesslib.php'); if (has_capability('moodle/site:config, get_context_instance(CONTEXT_SYSTEM))){ echo 'Congrats, you're an admin!'; } And, if user isn't an admin... global $CFG, $OUTPUT; require_once($CFG->dirroot.'/lib/accesslib.php'); if (!has_capability('moodle/site:config, get_context_instance(CONTEXT_SYSTEM))){ echo 'You're not an admin - bailing out'; echo $OUTPUT->footer(); die(); } Core API Capabilities ref: Roles - MoodleDocs Access API ref: Access API - MoodleDocs
  17. PHPMotion. Chuck it on a webserver et voila - local YouTube clone.
  18. Bonjour deployment isn't straightforward. The way it's mDNS services work trips you up. If ONE device on your network can't see another device, it broadcasts a message to all bonjour devices saying "this device isn't online anymore, so remove it from your list" even tho it could be that only that one device can't see it (for example). Refer to Wireless LAN Apple Bonjour Deployment Guide - Cisco Systems and Bonjour Gateway Deployment Guide 7.4 - Bonjour ... - Cisco & translate it's information as appropriate for your own infrastructure. There are tools to monitor bonjour messages on the network and you'll be able to see devices reporting other devices as online or offline, and then see the ripple effect as that offline device is removed from the availability lists on all your other devices. Generally, heading into settings on the AppleTV in question and turning Airplay off and on again will cause the device to rebroadcast itself as online and reappear on your other devices.
  19. Smart Lightraise UltraShortThrow onto whiteboard, AppleTV hooked up to HDMI input, and either sound bar or ceiling speakers depending on the room.

    XML

At one point most ajax stuff I dealt with involved generating and parsing XML... but nowadays everything tends to get flipped to JSON and done that way. IIRC XML has lost favor since HTML5 as it's not involved in the spec. To continue to use XML you have to remain in XHTML land. For your example above, I'd always tend to do it via PHP as a web page than in a spreadsheet - device agnostic.
  21. AFAIK, we signed up to progresso practically the day it was announced... but we've been messed about & the date's been put back so many times now that I think management have given up and are now intending to look at other options. Ah... another snippet of info that never made it's way back to me from whoever was making enquiries at this end.
  22. Free Music Archive: Music for Video But see my prev post yonder: #7 - you need to tread carefully as adding music to a video classes as transformation, and therefore means stuff licensed with a specific "No Derivatives" clause via Creative Commons cannot be used - hence freemusicarchive set up the specific curated content section above. If you choose something from outside of that section, make sure it doesn't use the No Derivs clause. Look for Creative Commons Attribution Non-commercial, and remember that you'll need to add visible credits to the video to comply with the licensing permission. See http://creativecommons.org/licenses/ for an overview of the license types / codes.
  23. ...PM'd... EDIT: Ta muchly fella!
  24. Any chance you could forward me a copy of that? Despite asking countless times, we seem to be getting nowhere in laying our hands on that particular documentation...
  25. Hmmm... thinking about it, no he probably wouldn't as his employer (the school) would be registered already as long as the training was booked with his employer rather than him as an independant, but as far as I understand it anyone handling / processing personal data has to be registered with the ICO. eg: If he was going to perform an analysis of the data contained in the MIS in order to tweak training to suit, that would constitute processing by a 3rd party.
