In progress...!

I'm beginning to suspect that this patch has caused a further issue when your templates happen to contain a lot of results filtered to show most recent within a date range, rather than by resultset... ie: these results come up blank.

Capita have 14 cases logged of schools who have gone with the 7.162 upgrade, and it's nuked usability of Individual Reports - ie: it no longer hides empty report sections.... they all show. We're one of the sufferers. Affects report sections containing more than one (!) result tag in it. They have a fix which is undergoing testing at the moment. So, best tip - install it, then get your Data Manager to preview a few of your individual report templates to find out whether you're going to need the fix or not.

Ditto - mysqldump on a per-database basis, piped to gzip, with daily, weekly and monthly retention... run from cron. I never back up the whole server. It takes less than an hour to set up a clean server (inc downloading the distro image), drop in our my.conf and network config files, and restore backups.

Tracking program to run alongside SIMS. Recommendations please.
Marci replied to Xeba37's topic in MIS Systems
4Matrix doesn't handle Post16, requires installation on every (Windows) PC which needs to use it... SISRA Analytics does handle Post16, and is entirely web-based so accessible anywhere (on any platform)... SIMS' Assessment Toolkits handles Post16 & KS2-4, but aren't accessible enough imo (Excel based reports)... At the moment, SISRA is the only one on the right path for us - ie: web-based, platform independant, and handles KS5. -
Twitter, full of porn - what do you do?
Marci replied to grant_girdwood's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We go with whatever our legal department say based on their interpretation of Twitter's terms & conditions, which is: not for use by students below age of 15, therefore Post 16 only have access. -
Free Draytek 2820 / 2830 router – worth £169 + VAT!
Marci replied to SchoolsBroadband's topic in Our Advertisers
@abillybob - model number's on the front - look it up on draytek's site. I received a 2830n without any antennae and incorrect firmware installed. Installed correct firmware, screwed 3x antennae onto the antennae sockets on rear et voila! -
Free Draytek 2820 / 2830 router – worth £169 + VAT!
Marci replied to SchoolsBroadband's topic in Our Advertisers
Note: if your Draytek arrives and has no mention of WiFi in the admin menu, it's been flashed with dual band wifi firmware rather than single band wifi firmware. Grab the correct one from here, reflash, restart, and Wireless options will return to the menu -
Hesk's my default go-to for any simple helpdesk requirements. We use it for Data, Premises & Health/Safety helpdesks. Our IT Support dept use GLPI however due to it's more comprehensive asset management and auditing facilities.

Technically, tends not to make a massive deal of difference... Impact of tubing size (pix missing but Stew quotes the figures).

None of them work here... on any platform.

Try mounting using cifs:// instead of smb://

Loads - just hit up google... Example PAC File « FindProxyForURL - PAC & WPAD Resource

Ignore it. Stick in your email address and password and hit sign in. It'll complain it can't find server settings or similar. Hit the ADVANCED button, complete the remaining fields (Username, AD Domain [my case, CURRICULUM], Mail Server public FQDN [my case, mail.ossettacademy.co.uk]).

[ipad] Issues with app store on iPad 1 (iOS 5.1.1)
Marci replied to ghSDC's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
They should still work fine regardless of age. I have iPod Touch2G & iPad1, both of which still work fine with AppStore on iOS5.1.1 - Apple flipped it so that you can use the latest supported ver of an app for your device - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5919. The problem there appears to be AppStore urls being blocked (eg: their CSS cdn, and probably their js repo). The urls for older vers of AppStore may well be different to newer vers, so check filters etc. Although, I don't think Meraki was around in iOS5.1.1 days, so doubt there's a version of their app available for that ver of iOS anyways. -
I use the 140dev Phirehose library (140dev Twitter Framework – Free Source Code Library) which monitors the public timeline, so that we can include hashtag searches, @Mentions etc in a single feed... but more importantly, can moderate the entries so that on any match an email goes to admin (me) and I can then approve the listing before it gets displayed live around the site (just to prevent any kiddywinks spamming any hashtags etc to look clever). The whole moderation portion isn't part of the library - just something v.basic & thrown together in PHP... but functional.

Ubuntu Server Wordpress Proxy Settings Not Working
Marci replied to Trojan's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
See http://www.edugeek.net/forums/internet-related-filtering-firewall/139302-intranet-wordpress-behind-smoothwall.html Some bits are done client-side, others are done server side. -
Intranet - Wordpress behind Smoothwall
Marci replied to chinesewhispers's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Re: plugin / theme install... This'll only work if there is incoming access to the web server, and is thus dependant on what ports are forwarded to it on your firewall etc. For instance, as our web server only has ports 80(http), 443(https) and [random](SSH/SFTP) accessible from outside, it couldn't auto-update / online-install themes & plugins without some tweaking (ala Configure SSH2 Access for Updating WordPress) to enable update via SFTP as all native methods would fail due to lack of ftp/ftps access. Re: RSS feeds These aren't done server-side, they're done client-side via javascript, so your client PCs all need access to wherever the RSS feed is pulled from (*.wordpress.org), not your web server. -

If it had any work details on there - calendar, email etc, notify your Data Protections Officer (or whoever the equivalent is within Aus infrastructure)
