Lightspeed Filter - Sync Users
finlay replied to techie17's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hi, We have been trialling Lightspeed filter for some time now, and have had to work with their development to make changes to the AD sync as we could not get it work with our multi domain environment. -
We have now upgraded Autocad and Inventor to the network 2023 versions. Wish that I could say it was straightforward, but it took weeks of reporting to support, escalations and going round in circles before being able to receice serial numbers and create deployments for both titles. Hopefully that should be it for another year..

I set up an IP with direct access via our firewall, so no need for proxy. After much faffing about with in the inbuilt config web based portal, which kept crashing out regardless of browser used, I did manage to join it to our managed network, receive IP reservation and register the node via the app. I did however note some concerns with the way that the network details were stored on the device so set up a dedicated SSID, but cannot for the life of me get the device to connect with these new settings. I have fed this back to the technical contact for the project and hope to have a response soon.

Some of our schools have recently been presented with kit as part of the Dandelion project https://dandelion.sruc.ac.uk/reference and not having much luck in setting up the nodes. Has anyone else in here had any experience with this stuff?

From the horse's mouth: "We are still developing Wordshark Online, for example development is underway for an updated secondary course to be added. It is hoped this will be in for the start of the new academic year. As a small company we do not have the capacity to develop a Numbershark Online. We do keep note of such requests and should demand for this increase in the future then it may be reconsidered but currently there are no plans."
-
I'm afraid they aren't, Wordshark has some of its content in the cloud, but Numbershark is not available web-based and there aren't any plans to do so.
-
We have been using these server-based titles at some of our sites for a number of years now, due to licensing and other reasons we are looking to see if there are any web-based alternatives that people are using out there?
-
I created a standalone package which was deployed via PDQ.
-
Unfortunatly we could not go with Onshape at this time, not enought time for staff and pupils to adjust etc. Onshape is being pushed for future use.
-
I did, emailed them on a near daily basis for three months.
-
We eventually had our school verified, and then after contantly emailing Autodesk without response, I was suddenly able to access to 2022 version of Autocad and Inventor via protal for creating deployments!
-
I'm glad to hear that we are not the only customers suffering this issue and it would be good to hear from anyone else who has suffered the same experience. We are looking at Onshape as an alternative as well.

Having a total nightmare with Autodesk & SheerID which has gone on for months regarding two issues. 1)Trying to generate a license for Inventor 2022 for a verified school, this is just not happening and Autodesk support appear to be clueless - end result is that the largest school in our LA is left without Inventor, I have being going around in circles with support and on the verge of giving up. 2)Trying to verify a new school in SheerID since January, in contact with support since January which keeps defaulting response to: "The process of reviewing schools takes approximately 7 days. Schools submitted are not guaranteed to be added, but all requests are researched and considered. We do not send notifications once a school has been reviewed, but you can check back at the verification form for any updates"

We are currently looking at moving to either Lightspeed Filter or Securly as our current soution ends in May. We have recently started a trial with Lightspeed and although the filtering side and agent works pretty well on Windows clients out of the box, we are experiencing some issues with the way that it syncs into our AD, and also find the portal a bit boggy. I am really keen to hear from anyone else who has evaluated both and what influenced their decision.
