we used to use barcodes along with WASP asset tracking, but our new system used QR codes (schoolassetmanager.co.uk) The only thing i use barcodes for now is scanning in new toner inventory.

we use a brother p-touch label printer for laptops and ipads, and for larger labels we use a dymo label printer. For asset labels we use the ones provided by our asset system.

We use a zebra 110i here for printing and mag encoding, it jams occasionally but other than that it works a treat. We also use Imagebase to manage the database. I'd recommend having a chat to the guys at DigitalID as they have always been helpful to us.

swivl are the people how make the iris mobile kit, they have a similar setup to iris connect.

Glad you got it working. I had issues using Domain Users and our students group so I tried Everyone and it worked. It comes down to stupidly written software I think.

I gave 'Everyone' modify permissions to the folders mentioned previously. We run RM CC4.5 so although they gain access to the folders on the C: drive they cannot see or navigate to the C: so there are no real security issues.

We have had a swathe of issues with CC2014, including error 16 on opening any Adobe CC application. The only way i've got it to work is to give the users permission to write to the adobe folder in Program Data. There is another SL folder that users will need write access too on window x64 its here (C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\SLCache) Once everyone has permissions for those folders it should work a treat. We've got it deployed to around 100 machines here and have had no problems since we made the changes. I hope this helps.

Hi, We are using Adobe CC2014 on an RM CC4.5 network. First we packaged each application using the adobe package manager. This downloads the software with updates then serializes and packages them as msi. We then imported the packages created into RMMC asif they were a CC3 msi. Then just deploy to your machines as needed (the machines will need to be build onto windows 7 64bit. The only two apps that I am having trouble with are Acrobat Pro and Lightroom. I am also looking into packaging the Elements versions of photoshop and premiere although there is no package manager for these. I hope this helps you. You could package the whole suite into one huge package but I didn't fancy the idea of deploying a 15GB package to over 60 machines. Darren

check out the synology diskstation 2 drive NAS boxes, we use a few here for staff shared areas and the like and they are great little boxes with bags of configuration options.

+1 for canon Legria HF-R** range. we use R36 cameras here, great little cams although the touch screen interface can be a bit of a pain.

We've used a variety of camcorders from a basic dv tape camera or basic USB webcam to Sony pd-170s and canon hv40s. We've got some canon SLRs and r36 camcorders but I haven't tried them yet and i dont think they'll work. Anything with a FireWire output and tape deck will work fine my favourite is the hv40 as it records full HD to dv tape, USB camcorders can be hit and miss it depends if they can output live video over USB. As for the interaction with the background, timing is everything and practice makes perfect there I'm afraid.

PlanetPC are great and we have purchased a lot of kit from them over the years, but I've found that you can achieve similar results without the need to go down the tricaster route (or similar) @Kiler-Bot the way I do it for BBC news day and the like is to first hook the camera up via FireWire or USB to a Mac running chromakey live software, this provides a rough preview of the effect for geting placement and lighting right then when ready press record on the camera as normal and apply the actual chroma key effect in your chosen editor. We use after effects but the new iMovie does a nice job very quickly and easily. When all is said and done its a bit rough and ready but it works and it runs on hardware that a lot of schools have already. I hope this helps.

If you just want something to preview an effect while the students act and record then I would have a look at this, It's mac only but i've found it really handy for previewing effects and getting students in the correct place while recording green screen footage. but it does not record anything this is for previewing and demoing only. For live mixing of chroma key effects there is more of a cost involved with buying something like ultimatte or veescope.
