"Microsoft 365 Education A3" licensing may replace ovs-es? as it is purchased for Staff and teachers, pupils get it for free. I was going to get the staff to use Microsoft Teams and point their laptop at themselves.

It never occurred to me that a shared mail box could have a shared calendar... poo.

My students all seem to have the teams licence but are unable to use it, how do I enable just my test pupil? (and then all of them) All teachers can use it just fine though but pupils get tenant disabled?

You should create a document share in a SharePoint site if you want that kind of functionality.

The second I opened the photos app on a pupil machine as a pupil it installed "photos addon" from the store. Helpful I know..

I think people still don't understand that fingerprint readers don't use pictures of your fingerprints (what you would consider a biometric identifier) but use a mathematical description of your finger which is used as part of a biometric authenticator. The (biometric authenticators) description is like comparing the description of your granny (how tall, colour hair, etc) to pick her out in a room vs a picture of your granny which could be used anywhere and for other purposes. The description (derived from a biometric source) does NOT it self qualify as a Biometric Identifier as this description can never be used outside of its environment and can't be reversed back into a fingerprint.

I think in the VLC settings you can turn OFF accelerated video output, this may force software decoding and fix the issue if new(er) graphics drivers are unavailable.

Both of those players maybe handing off the de-coding to the graphics driver which is failing you. I had this issue with my AMD APU style PCs a while back with h.264 playback. I was forced to update the graphics driver on 90+ desktop PCs.

Some sites overlay a transparent image over their pictures to stop people using them without permission. EDIT: Word has a built in image search (using Bing) that will honour the CC licensing.

I had a useless update from Pearson. Use Chrome and enable 3rd party cookies...Nice. Great so every website can track our pupils activities across the internet because your sole company demands it.

The 4th Gen devices whilst certainly powerful enough (with 8gb ram and SSD) are already 5 years old. A new PC can be had for similar costs but have a longer implied lifespan. I use Volume Copy Shadow Service (VSS) this is NOT a backup though. The great news is that normal users can restore their own files or folders, which is nice. I used to use Windows backup on the servers but haven't looked at it in a decade! I still think the servers can do this though! I use Vranger backup software this would need to run at the VM level though. This allows entire machine and file level restore.

Apple School Manager has been a total disaster for me. They'll ONLY speak to the headmaster (not a lowly Network Manager) their technical support doesn't even know what apple school manager is! Out customer ID has never worked and 5 calls and many helpdesks later it just can't and will never work for us. Oh and my login stopped working (for this thread, I thought I'd check) and I'm stuck in an impossible loop of requiring myself to unlock my own account. EDIT: btw you still have to use the apple configurator, the apple school manager and an MDM of your choosing. A hat trick of management. I have a 1 to 1 ipad to management solutions. NICE...

if you can't get the functionality you want could you have the scanner send an email instead? This is a bit round about but in the O365 environment the "Drive" also has an attachments folder, to see all email attachments. if similar is available on Google this might get you 90% of what you need.

Pearson stopped our pupils logging in today as they were unable to "enable 3rd party cookies" this is because I'd configured Edge privacy settings to block tracking. Pearson are allowing cross site logins, this new feature, requires the use of 3rd party cookies! (shouldn't that be my choice?)

if its a small network and you're using a cheapo switch with no VLANs sometimes the ARP tables can saturate and the switch can get all kinds of funny. Read the switch event logs.

if you're running the education version of Windows 10 you can specify the background in GPO. computer/admin/control/personalization/

yes just that, it'll cost you £49xFTE so not too much, we have a 101 FTE count times £49 we get office as part of the desktop pack. (which has all the connection licensing for the servers) This is an annual cost. (FTE is pretty much anyone who uses a computer now)

sometimes you can open an exe with 7zip and see if an msi is inside.
