Pearson stopped our pupils logging in today as they were unable to "enable 3rd party cookies" this is because I'd configured Edge privacy settings to block tracking. Pearson are allowing cross site logins, this new feature, requires the use of 3rd party cookies! (shouldn't that be my choice?)

Has anyone used this on a networked PC? People might be more familiar with Goto Meeting and Goto Assist. It all just seems like different branding of a very similar thing, screen sharing. In this case screen sharing for the purpose of training, so someone shares their screen to multiple people. This is done in a browser but it seems that this just triggers a piece of software that is installed locally to launch. This is where the problem lies, when a user goes to a training session they are prompted to download a .exe file (see test session here... https://support.logmeininc.com/gototraining/help/join-a-test-session-g2t060001#Join), obviously this is something we do not allow to happen and even if we did, we then wouldn't allow users to run a .exe file downloaded from the internet. Goto Training do offer an MSI version called 'Goto Opener' which supposedly allows people to join the training session but although that installs fine and launches when the user visits the training URL, Goto Opener itself tries to download and run another .exe file from the users temporary internet files on c:\users\... We can't be in a unique situation here. I expect most schools (and companies) don't allow random .exe files to be downloaded and run by end users (BTW, the .exe seems to be different for each session/user so even white listing a particular file/name would be tricky) and this particular training is provided by Pearson so it's must be quite common within schools. So, has anyone else got this working from within a school network?

Not entirely sure what they're calling themselves these days, but we've been using Promissor for years. I've just tried installing the Administrator program on a PC after setting up the ESM server fine following an upgrade, and am hitting issues. I'm getting the dreaded error "cannot load sitepersistence.dll" on the clients when running the Administrator program. PC is Windows 8.1 Their own technical requirements document states: (God I hate this software. Why must we go back in time 3 years to be officially supported?!) Now, I know it clearly says there it doesn't work. However, I've successfully had it running on a Server 2012 machine, and a Windows 10 test machine. Surely, it must work on Windows 8.1 too, surely?. Nothing I'm trying is working. Permissions on C:\Program Files (x86)\Promissor are fine, the share where the exams are stored is fine, the path to it is correct on the clients. Googling the error just brings up on old thread on here from 2009. In the past, on W7 and XP machines, that error has gone away when the accounts being used are given Full Control over the C:\Program Files (x86)\Promissor folder. Just wondering if anyone else has got it running on W8/8.1?

I’m receiving an error while installing the POP Test Player on a couple of PCs. We are updating to the latest version and most PCs are completing successfully. The few with the error previously had Test Player installed fine and were used for exams but they don’t seem to have it installed at all now and I receive the above error when I run the MSI from the server to reinstall/update it. I’ve had no errors with the administrator or invigilator dashboards. Any thoughts?

Got a vested interest in this topic - working for Pearson Education... There's an internal discussion which I'd like to get your input into. As publishing moves inexorably more toward online services, is it time to give up on CD-ROM and DVD-ROM as a delivery media? Of course, there's a lot of issues which count for and against discs, some people love them, some find them a waste of space and quickly rip them to ISO for storage, but I'd particularly like to get your opinions on the alternatives. Here's a topic list for issues which have been raised on which your thoughts would be appreciated: Online only products. Online download of ISO or self-contained MSI installers for offline use. Copy protection generally. Licence keys and activation (transforms are a must). To date we've largely stayed away from copy protection and product activation, as schools are excellent at self-management, but illegal filesharing is just a fact of life (you never quite know what you're getting of course). Just for the record, the support service chaps recently recorded end-users as wanting to keep operating offline - i.e. local or network product by an unsurprisingly high 66%, 27% were happy for website access to products and 7% by VLE. You guys are really at the pointy end, so I consider your views as highly important inputs to this debate.

The Student Information System our school have been implementing has numerous limitations and disadvantages, especially in the reports and data analysis fields. We are now considering changing the System and would like to receive advice and suggestions from other schools who are satisfied with their system, a user-friendly, ‘smart’ data analysis interface that converts raw data into a management well-informed decisions tool. In addition to the regular enrolment, attendance and grading data, we are looking for a system that does the following: 1. Smart attendance absconding reports: a report that highlights missing students from a specific class (ditching) 2. Grades’ Analysis: a statistical report on grades by subject, grade, teachers, …. Including averages per class, deviation, …. 3. Enrolment for the coming year: our present system does not allow us to enrol students for the coming year until we ‘roll-over’ our present students – which only happens end of June. At present, we have had high recommendations for Integris and Pearson Phoenix ; can you please send me a brief about the system your school is using, your advice onto what factors to consider, and your recommendation as we are trying to collect end-users reviews to avoid the ''perfect vendor presentation" trap where decisions will be based off a 2 hour presentation given by each company which, while being informative, will be biased towards the good points of their products. We need to get an idea on what these products are like in real world use. Could you please leave any comments, advantages, disadvantages, you may have had using Integris or Pearson Phoenix , in particular if you have had experience of more than one of these MISs and can provide any comparrison observations. Thanks

Hello everyone, Different departments here have the ActiveTeach software, and I am trying to deploy the software using Microsoft Application Virtualisation (App-V), however, whenever I go to launch the ActiveTeach software a dialog box appears asking for the location of the 'Wrapper' shockwave flash file (see attached image). If I select ‘wrapper’ and click open and repeat this one final time, the software functions as normal. Is there a workaround so that this dialog is not displayed and ActiveTeach opens immediately? I have tried to contact Pearson for help regarding this but they have come back saying that they don't support App-V and want me to contact Microsoft directly. Has anyone else come across this issue and if so, have you managed to resolve it? We also have the Assessment Pack software which isn't affected and loads up as normal. Many thanks in advance.

Exploring Science 7 to 9 arrived in our school not long ago and the head of science has asked for the ActiveBook and Activity Pack for each year group to go on our CLEO hosted VLE. The zip files were uploaded soon after and the SCORM packages set up as advised by Pearson (new window), tested in Firefox and IE8 and then we discovered that their VLE material is not IE8 compatible (their fix is to use Compatibility Mode). This fix is not exactly ideal seems as currently I cannot turn compatibility mode on for solely our VLE URL (vle.school.cumbria.sch.uk) it uses cumbria.sch.uk - I don't know if this is possible?! I've seen plenty of threads for network installs for this software and a few for VLE installs but none with this issue, do you all just force compatibility mode on or have another workaround? Any help / suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.
