    I'd not recommend you put RDS on the internet. M$ have had numerous recent security issues with the product and the gateway. it's an old product with a broken security model that gets little development. if you really must have it don't put it on the internet, set up a VPN and then have your clients RDS to the services. You could also use direct access or its replacement always on VPN without RDS.

    omg, even my phones are POE+ Gigabit... I use the Unifi products cheap if you want central management. the 48 port switches have sfp+ so you could reuse old fiber to get 10Gig in places. (I have OM1 fiber but some run are short enough to allow 10gig) The 10gig fiber transceivers are about £30 a pair! I have 1 of the 750watt POE+ switches running 20+ phones (and their buddied PCs) and 10 APs

    Not familiar with the Rucus system but I've had similar issues with our APs not forwarding multicast packets properly. Check to see if you're blocking Multicast or broadcast packets on that AP or the switch leading to the AP. Make sure the switch hasn't assigned that port as a client device. (STP / Port fast setting) edit: correction

    The epson projectors use triple LCDs for each of the colours. I'd assume a hardware issue has killed the red LCD and that projector is for the dump. https://www.avpartsmaster.co.uk/RepairForm.aspx These guys have repaired a few of our projectors. The projector is only worth a £200 but would cost £1000 to replace... avpartmaster will charge to diagnose but you get that towards the repair if you go ahead. last 2 repairs cost me 180 ish edit spelling..

    They probably want the DVD in Orange Book format, this means they want the DVD in a condition to play in a normal player. I bring this up as a DVD Video (in single layer) could take up to 4 hours. You'll need a DVD Video author, this'll convert (re-encode and split) your file or files and create the suitable directories and a menu etc. We use Nero 12, this is how we author DVDs for the exam board for Drama. EDIT: a DVD video disc using only a single layer 4.3GB can play in low quality up to 4 hours of footage.

    Yeah, we used to set the mapped pupil drives to G: and it would clash with old style built in card readers. They are now W: There are are GPO options to hide "abcd" drives in the explorer options, I believe and it's possible using GPOP to set the drive as hidden, but any of the GPOP policies could hide the drive as well. (poorly worded any of the map a drive in gpop could hide the drive letter in question even if its mapping a different drive.)

    yes, display name for staff is mr or mrs surname... works well. This shows up in the GAL of outlook as well as the LDAP query of the printers using AD for email addresses.

    I've kept the old smtp addresses as well, so no emails are lost during transition. is there a way of speccing the smtp address that needs to be the reply / default address? cheers

    one last thing, how do I set the reply address or the default address. I've added the new addresses btw just waiting for sync. @Chaniel I am syncing upns' I only discovered this feature this morning! I was going to wait on changing the UPN as I don't explain to users that the UPN and email addresses are NOT the same thing

    on the proxyaddresses entry I have 2 current addresses the [email protected] AND [email protected] I never understood what the mail.onmicrosoft was! Anyhow do I add 2 new entries? cheers

    fumbling a UPN or having to update an active user was a little tedious but there's now a feature to allow UPN changes during regular sync. Get-MsolDirSyncFeatures -feature synchronizeupnformanagedusers ((to check if its already enabled. set-MsolDirSyncFeature -feature synchronizeupnformanagedusers -Enable $true ((to enable please notice the lack of an 's' on then end of the set command I stumbled on this feature today, it'll allow UPN changes made in active directory to sync with azure / o365 AFTER initial sync of the account. which is nice. aaand I bet everyone knew this 6 months ago

    I've recently gone to full cloud with office 365 (no hybrid anymore) The accounts are still synced via local AD. I've had a member of staff change their name and we have a naming rule set for them. Now I've changed the staff members name and it's synced to o365 I can't figure out how to get o365's exchange to re-apply the naming rule to update their email address. This is NOT the UPN, I'll change that manually later.

    We have these and they're working fine. We are using native serial as HP laptops still have serial ports on the docking station. I still use 5.7 (with auto serial support) (windows 8.1, windows10, 1803,1903&1909)

    Sorry, I have no helpful input but I had a full week of issues with wjec and phoned their helpdesk 3 times, then as asked sent 3 emails restating everything I discussed. I never got a single reply to my technical support queries. ok, things to note, The install doc says it needs .net4.0 BUT in fact also needs .net 3.5! You have to allow users to execute 2 programs (unrestricted)in the public shared profile (umm secure!) You'll have to distribute an xml file with proxy details in (as it doesn't follow proxy.pac / automatic proxy) an figure out yourself how to distribute. Oh the directories are hardcoded so you can't change them! You also need SQL compact edition but at least they dropped the requirement of install both the 32 and 64 bit editions! OH! need to quickly install a copy! (well it fails to install if you elevate from standard to administrator!) full admin or deploy..... yay! (that took 2 days of troubleshooting and wjec failing to help) What a pile of rubbish.

    New budget coming up and I'm looking at the HP ProBook 440 G6 laptops for Teachers. The main feature I'm looking for in the laptop though is a single cable solution for the classroom. We're currently tied to the old school HP docks which have been very successful, plonk and go is working well. Unfortunately that has lead us to an upgrade dead end. The promise of USB-C docks that can offer all the ports a classroom setup could require AND charge any laptop using a single universal cable has to be the way forward. USB-C isn't easy to decipher, I've been looking at reconditioned laptops with these features but some are very cagey about what their USB-C port can do. Some may but with only their own dock Some of the midrange Dells appear to offer it from the last 2 years but as a secret?! You have to find the dock and see if the laptop is on the list! With Gen1 Gen2 Thunderbolt 1,2&3 and DisplayPort passthrough, I couldn't say for certain what a USB-C port will do until I try them for myself. Is anyone running a USB-C single cable solution?

    IMHO a "Biometric Authenticator" such as a value derived from your interaction with the ipad fingerprint reader isn't covered by GDPR. The GDPR is concerned about "Biometric Identifiers" These would be photos of your face OR a picture of your fingerprint. Whilst a "Biometric Authenticator" can be used in the process of identification the value stored or processed from the authenticator do not meet the definition of a "Biometric Identifier".

    I have majority deployed Unifi APs, The technical support is terrible, you'll be using the forums as primary support. Features are promised and never delivered and they'll EOL devices on a whim. They still offer the best value of any networking gear. I also use Meraki sparingly, although it is excellent in all factors it is also impractically expensive. This is why it is strictly installed in areas that demand its features.

    I don't understand why people get fixated on Chromebooks as a value alternative. They're poor value, Google only support a device for 4 years (used to be 3) That's 4 years from when the device is released NOT when you buy it (just like a phone). A Cheap Chromebook is a cruddy dual core with 4gb RAM for £200, a cheapo Windows laptop is £200 with a dual core and 4gb RAM but Windows 10 has a way longer support cycle.
