Dell Optiplex 3010 Disabling Second Screen
chazzy2501 replied to James-kennedy1997's topic in Hardware
maybe a super cheap lp gfx card with outputs as this sounds like a BIOS bug / behaviour. The HPs I have will always choose the DP monitor over the native VGA output. (this is annoying if projector is DP and not on!) maybe ask verypc -
WSUS died a few years ago and my rebuilt wsus die after only a month. I decided to allow P2P updates and let the Clients sort themselves out.

I've now seen it myself, some windows machines just logout and reboot without warning. I've check my update settings I use 4 download and automatically install BUT I have set office hours and I've checked the box to not reboot while a user is logged in.. The policy is applied but ignored. I've made a changes to the GPO to extend the office hours but people at home are being booted without warning or governors meeting that run long. (so this is mostly happening outside the office hours) It's not offering the old "you'll be logged out soon" dialog it just happens! I've now set the option to 3 download and tell, but this means users will have to do the updates (which they won't) ideas?

Jurassic fiber is here in Beaminster end of 2021. apparently up to 950Mbps a nice upgrade from our VDSL 80/20.

did anyone get the answer to deploying office 365 rather than office 2019 with regards to licensing? I still think I'm stuck having to deploy 2019 for users. Office 365 has some nice new features (like real time subtitles and dictation for power point) that 2019 does not have.
-
if you have unlimited licences you don't have to delete them. My plan was to remove them from active directory, have them deleted from o365, then restore them as a cloud users. There is probably a better solution.

Suitable camera for Web Cam for students use.

get a few of these, better than buying an overpriced webcam. (I have the older model and they're pretty nice) as they have the usb speakers mouse and mic in the device. https://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=1FH48AT&opt=ABU&sel=MTO&lang=en-GB&pup_e=1&pup_cid=55877&pup_id=1FH48AT%23ABU&gclid=CjwKCAjw_Y_8BRBiEiwA5MCBJrkY50MVu-EhTAkX2ndvPYPgJLJIjk3oQGu1_Tf5vd0tXWcX7y5u2RoCNqAQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds -
Teams will try and use the default communication device. You'd have to check each machine to see what that is, this could have been altered by the end user and can also be overridden in the teams app itself. The variables are just too broad to say definitively. You have no choice but the educate the users. I like usb headsets as windows will always make that the default communications device AND teams will try and use it. (even if plugged in after a call is started) I find the Teams App is better than the web version at dealing with devices. Echo could be someone sharing their desktop WITH the use system audio enabled. but I've not had this issue. People can unmute themselves and be listening on speaker.

I wanted to create teacher accounts in Apple School Manager (for 3 teachers and 3 ipads). I gave them instructor roles but changed the role to allow purchasing. This way they can do what they like but if they leave or die I can recover the ipad I didn't want to MDM for 3 ipads. When they browse the app store the "get" is greyed out.. Does purchase not mean what I think it means? I purchased some apps in the ASM but I assume I'd need an MDM to assign them. (I don't want to do this) Should I just let teachers managed the device fully? (private apple login)

won't run the self test vs fails during the self test. Usually pressing the "on" button for a second will trigger the self test.
-
To be thorough you'd run a memory test with only 1 memory stick at a time and wait for issues. I'd be tempted to reseat the memory first to see if it gets better. A storage issue could also cause bluescreens.

win+shift+ctrl+b it may not help but give it a try. I make the pupil move to another PC. Doesn't affect next pupil for some reason. (I assumed it was odd update issues)
-
I map my printers using 3 methods. GPO VBS, PS & GPP. This is still not 100% so I allow pupils to add printers. EDIt: I forgot to mention I use a machine with user policy loopback for the vbs and ps1 method.

Remove Expired Team Groups from the Global Address List
chazzy2501 replied to chazzy2501's topic in Cloud Services
This is what I've just done, let see if it works. $Groups = Get-UnifiedGroup -ResultSize Unlimited | ? {$_.Displayname -like "Exp0920_*"} Foreach ($Group in $Groups) {Set-UnifiedGroup -Identity $Group.Name -HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled $true} } modified a little to only hide expired, as the display name was altered in the section clean up 0920 being the date. EDIT: it worked. current team groups still display and expired have gone from the GAL. p.s. if I delete the team groups in Azure the pupils would loose last years coursework- 6 replies

What the correct way to stop the expired Team Groups from appearing in the Global Address List... Also is there away of getting my Sharp MFP a list of the current Team Groups Address list. I thought of doing a secure LDAP via azure but that looked wayyy to tricky. Ideas welcome..

yes, by the client. (which is why it has to be on )

here is what it look like on another PC (as it has to be on) This laptop is called FXM and I only wanted the machine results.
-
Well you can do all this from the Group policy Window anyhow so no need to visit the machine. You can run "group policy results" to show expected outcome and "group policy modeling" to show actual results (like the html output) without leaving the office. here you can see me running a pupil test user or a member of staff on a various PCs. On the Modeling I was asking for the results of just machine GPOs on the computer ELC. I found that the computer wasn't applying a GPO because of a wmi rejection. (computer was missing from a security group) All done from my desk. (the remote PC has to be on)

[sims] Solus breaks with latest Workstation Patch
chazzy2501 replied to FragglePete's topic in MIS Systems
This is unbelievably stupid. I have to redeploy SIMS (patch whatever) to over a 100 workstations so I can install SIMS onto 2 new laptops... FFS and next week when I have 6 more depoly again to 102 workstations? Does the old Simsinst still work -
add a group policy preference that deletes all the printers and order it to be first.

you'd use wmic in powershell. wmic bios list brief /format:list
