    USB-C docks have to be the way forward. I'm replacing my HP dock fleet with USB-C based HP docks. One cable for everything. charging, picture, sound, interactive. it could also do networking to remove wifi woes, mouse, keyboard, graphics tablet, 2nd webcam, visualiser... I have found a few issues, the ports are hyper sensitive to dirt / hand lotion. contact cleaner spray will be your friend. The rather strict length limit and nebulous specs on getting a compatible extension lead is a pain. Just place the dock on the desk. (I wanted to hide them away in a ceiling or wall box)

    Asking for a friend.. Our old HP laptops had old docking stations that had native serial, these worked so reliably with the Promethean boards, I'd forgotten what a PITA they can be.. I googled the heck out (USB-C with Serial / RS232)of it and they don't seem to exists but I'll ask here just in case.

    Interesting problem, I had need to use a serial board promethean active board on a new laptop. Dug around my buckets and pulled out a genuine prolific serial to usb adaptor.... Nothing happened. I checked device manager and it was installed but the device name was "THIS DEVICE IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED AS OF 2012" this was the device name NOT a message from the OS! I went and got a generic adaptor and when I installed it the device name was "THIS IS NOT A GENUINE PROLIFIC DEVICE" !!That's the device name in device manager!!.... I uninstalled the device and the driver, did a new hardware scan and bam! same device name. So have prolific tainted the Windows Update Driver System with Malicious Drivers that nerf old or unofficial devices?

    Sorry more musings. I guess it was the printer fleet being replaced / renewed that sparked this idea. The printers are used to produce documents from computers, so really how to eliminate these classroom printers. (separate printer lease for reprographics) is there a case for having pupils produce digital documents and print them for submission, rather than digital submission.

    no, we are not 1:1 but I should restate that for us, where possible we don't revert. There are classes with traditional work but as during lockdown these can still be photographed and submitted. All print outs in I.T based lessons could be submitted instead of printed and homework possibly could go all digital. Handouts in PDF not paper, where possible. This was a musing for all schools not just myself. I didn't want to loose the efforts put forth in the lockdown merely to revert to paper printouts again! The teachers will fall back onto comfy habits and we'll be a decade away before we know it. This is really an incomplete thought and argument for myself, I guess. I was looking to articulate / expand on the idea.

    nope, ipad screen sharing seems to work for about 3 minutes, then will stop working. Laptops through the app, don't have these issues but can take ages to kick in.

    We're up to renew our photocopying lease, these machines cost £400 a quarter (I think all in), that's got me thinking. Teachers and pupils have just had an extensive push at all digital learning, right now might be the best opportunity to push the school to an all digital workflow. Without a push we'll fall back to paper printouts and marking. I could use these funds for graphics tablets for teachers home and classrooms and still save money. buy a broadband upgrade, get some laptops with built in stylus. (maybe) I'm going to broach this with SLT today if I can, anyone got some input?

    Our Sharp Fleet is also up for renewal. I'm satisfied with them. but any cool features I might have missed with MFPs in the last few years? better O365 integration, Teams specific coolness?

    HDMI doesn't really have the power to make a reliable VGA output.     Just wondering, if the meeting was set with a channel invite, wouldn't a teacher added to the Team (and thus) the channel be able to take control of the meeting?

    if we ignore the firmware and OS updates... Then I'd say the USB run is too long or the cables to cheap. Cheapo USB cables are thin and have a high resistance and can stop certain devices working reliably despite being well within the 5m limit. as a sanity check I'd purchase a high quality cable and try one out. something with a low AWG if you can find them. EDIT: too optimistic on the AWG

    I purchased a second domestic internet connection (like at home) stuck the router on its own un-routed Vlan and then just pop a port on that vlan if needed, I also have a site wide SSID for it as well. Cheaper than a dedicated BYOD solution but not a replacement.

    I bought one of those ceiling tile projector mounts... turns out there is a 60x60 and a 61x61 standard. getting that 61 into my 60 space took some swearing. looks good though.

    It'd take a pupil here 5.1 continuous days to upload a 1tb of data (if no one else uses it). I'm unworried.

    I hate that when you deny permission to the microphone in Windows 10 it mutes the mic for that application, it should make it so the device doesn't exist for the application.

    @LeMarchand who setup the compucenter stuff for you. I got an excel document with all my laptops local password and bios paswords emailed to me. but I have no remote monitoring tools.
