Action 1 gave me a verbal quotation, which they said they'd send and never did. At that point I wasn't told it was confidential anyway. When I ended the trial and complained at lack of receiving written quote, I got it in an email with the word confidential attached, with no other terms. I didn't have a good experience with the trial, as when I deployed went slightly over the "200 free" and then I couldn't interact with the 200 free devices which contradicts how its meant to work. How they deal with trials and customers needs some work. Contractually I have no agreement with Action 1, I have signed no NDA, and even if I had of got the email quote before I put any post up, because someone puts the word confidential in an email I don't believe is legally enforceable anyway - so I can't see there is any hot water to get into. And if there was, would it really reflect well on any supplier to be seen to censor posts in an educational forum and take educational establishments to court over something which *arguably* we should be able to share and shouldn't be a secret anyway. Personally I'd rather manually update all our products a year than buy from a supplier like this. Again *arguably* the issue is that while its an educational forum I am posting in, there isn't any validation of who sees content and who is posting.

@mavhc its mostly your standard stuff that the likes of the basic products do, except Adobe creative cloud which isn't covered by the cheaper end products.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have already tried PDQ Connect and Action1 and am looking at couple of others. I'd appreciate anyone who has gone beyond a trial with a product giving me an idea of the pricing you're paying by private message. Its disappointing that a lot of companies aren't more transparent about pricing and when I put something in an educational forum regarding price its censored.

There are mentions on here and other forums of patch management and people trying solution but not a lot with costs or people going beyond trials, the problem is with a lot of these companies they want to present to you for an hour before they will give you a cost. Which may then be so much, you've just wasted an hour of your life. Not used any of these companies before, and its difficult to compare without loads of trials. So hoping for some insights from anyone who has used any of these, or any other products? I am also interested if you went for a more expensive end tool how you justified and felt it was better than cheaper alternatives. We have around 4000 devices across the trust. We predominantly have Windows Pcs but some Macs but the priority is the Windows PCs. PDQ Connect - £15 per license (this is their list price) - trialled the product and think its great, but at £60k to do all our devices i'd struggle to ever get the ok. I assume it isn't modular and while a lot of stuff in there is great i don't think i'd use. PDQ Deploy looks fine at £1200 a technician, but we're starting to move to intune, so not sure it makes sense to go for an on-prem solution? We are considering moving student devices to intune as it’s already happening in elsewhere in the trust and having done a test room are finding impero ed pro works to an extent but as it’s Active Directory based some things don’t work. Has anyone found an alternative that works that works with intune and ad devices properly, allows admin scripts and logging on en masse etc and allows screen monitoring of large classes of students without the lag of some of the cloud products. We tried senso already and went back to impero for this reason. We have a learning resource centre with 200+ pcs and someone trying to monitor that on a cloud products isn’t quick enough.

We have persistent issues over several months with our Sophos XG which is mainly down to filtering issues so we've ended up on "experimental" firmware which has then introduced new issues. Without going into it further, we've given up with Sophos. So we're looking for recommendations of a good firewall solution for a 2500-3000 student college. We've tried smoothwalls before, but then the support got really bad. Would also like to know of any good resellers and if you've had support for firewall through reseller or manufacturer as either a managed or co-managed solution. Thanks!

We are looking for a company to merge two Office 365 tenancies. My boss, 100% doesn't want us to do it ourselves - which personally I take as a bit of relief as there is a lot of accounts and probably a lot of things to go wrong. We need someone experienced in doing, preferably someone who has done within education before. Tenancy A has previously been merged and consists of multiple domains for 7 schools (however it was merged at a point when there was little to no teams, sharepoint or onedrive usage.) Tenancy B is a college with 2500+ students. Both tenancies heavily use sharepoint, teams, onedrive and Office 365. Would appreciate anyone's good experience of doing through a company or indeed bad experiences as well.

Does anyone have any recommendations of any IT providers around the Midlands area for auditing and making recommendations on infrastructure. We need someone outside our usual pot of vendors to provide audit and specs for the vendors in our procurement process.

Are you suggesting portfast is the problem or a possible fix? We're not using at present.

Thanks, Probably would work but we have several VLANs due to the campus size so would need several client VLANs and so network adaptors. Its a hyper v host so possible but slightly fiddly due to the server switch. As this used to work, I think there must be another answer....

Certain models of computer will not UEFI PXE boot unless in the server VLAN (Viglens and 1 model of HP laptop.) These computers have PXE'd in the past, but cores have changed and so have the DHCP servers (although options kept the same.) We have: HP Core Switches with IP Helper configured. Dell Edge Switches have tried with and without ip helpers on. SCCM Server with latest patches 1 server VLAN and then individual building VLANS Have tried: No DHCP options 60/66/67 Tried DHCP with various options of 60/66/67 Options 66 and 67 all the rest of the model computers will PXE. If I turn on legacy by altering option 67 the Viglens will PXE (but I don't really want to change the BIOSs of 300+ viglens...) I am running out of ideas... Help?

We use MyPC by ITS so that in our library we can: Limit login times on certain PC (e.g quick use pcs) Prebook PCs for certain groups/people Not let people with outstanding library books login without speaking to LRC staff. Mapping function to see where computers are free on one central screen. We currently have 145 PCs in our library which is set to increase. Its quite expensive to buy new licenses, support contracts and they also want to charge migration fees for the servers. Can anyone advise of any alternative solutions that do the same/similar?
