    I know there are a few threads regarding this issue. We've just replaced about 20 PC's...it's a lot to replace and I'm running out of space. My normal response would be to get them recycled. End. But with the recent cuts I can't help thinking that it would make sense to sell them on eBay to generate funds. Do you think it would be ethical to sell them, take a percentage for myself and 'donate' the rest to school? Essentially school 'donate' to me their old equipment, I sell it and donate my personal money for the equipment back into school? Would this work??

    Hi Sted, Here are the steps i have taken so far: 1. Removed the slash from the profile path of the users in order for a new .v2 folder to be created when a user first logs on. 2. Taken ownership of .v2 folder and copied the desktop, start menu etc... folders from the XP profile folder into the .v2 folder 3. Given permissions back to the 'student group' where all the users reside Still logs on with a temporary profile...any ideas??

    Yes users can generally log on anywhere in school. ICT suite in the morning they could log on to XP and then in their class log on to the new pc running Windows 7.

    Hello. We've just got some new PC's in school with Windows 7 on them. When joining them to our 2003 domain everything goes well. The user can see their folder share and other shares...but it comes up with 'Windows has logged you on with a temporary profile. All changes you make will be lost etc...' It just doesn't seem to want to pick up the profile for the user. We have a generic profile folder for all our class logons called 'student' which holds all the desktop and start menu settings etc... The XP machines log on no problem, they pick up the profile and everything is sweet. If someone logs on as 5B- it works. If someone logs on as 4F- it works. Why are the Windows 7 machines not doing it properly?? Any ideas??

    Hello, Here at our school we have a curriculum IP range and an admin IP range. Being the ICT technician my computer frequently needs to connect to both to manage some printers, resources and perform certain tasks. Our server has two network cards which are both patched into our network and on the same domain. All the switches are attached (i.e. there is no physically seperate admin / curriculum network). My question is- is it possible to operate on both these networks at the same time from one machine? If not- what could I do to make the process easier?

    Hi, We just recently added 60 netbooks to our network...it seems, now, we have run out of ip addresses. What do we do? Bearing in mind we are assigned an IP range by our local authority. J x

    Try as I might- the staff don't delete unwanted stuff. There are two members in particular, the ones with the biggest and messiest folders, who seem reluctant to delete ANYTHING! I have asked time and time again... What do you suggest? Shall I just move them and see what comeback i get? Tried that once before...!!

    Hi there, We keep having issues with space running low on our server. This of course isn't what I want as an ICT Technician because it causes print issues, file saving issues and too many other issues to issue an issue at...     Well I thought about the usb conversion and looking at the back of one of the boards before- it already has the connection. I plugged a USB into it but then had no way of powering the board as the power lead goes into the serial end of the cable. I couldn't find a power socket on the back of the board. Is there some way to convert them? Had a look at the keyspan adapters and the cheapest is £25! I thought that was a bit expensive for an adapter...

    I know it's the boards because we keep getting the red cross on the activ driver in the taskbar. It was a good suggestion- sometimes the most obvious passes me by on a daily basis

    Hi, With the dawn of new laptops the serial connection has disappeared. Nowhere to be seen. Gone. This has forced me, with some of our older Activboards, to buy USB to Serial adapters to get the boards to work with the new technology. A new problem has arisen in the form of Windows 7 where some of the boards will just stop working and a reboot is needed to get them going again. Teachers are getting annoyed and all I can do is advise them to go into the taskbar, click the 'settings' on the activ driver and click find or connect in the hope it will work again. I tried installing the latest activ drivers a while back and had even more problems with the boards just not working at all. ANY HELP APPRECIATED!!!! Jay xxx

    Two PC's at once...but they seem to be doing it now...I'm attempting 4 at once and they seem to be doing it. How odd. Do you think it could cause image problems? One has finished, booted up to Windows and all seems well... How weird...

    Yikes! I don't know... I set up one fog server. We also have a DHCP server that serves our network... any use?? Sorry i'm a bit of a newbie to this

    Hey folks!! I've managed to get my FOG server sorted now and I have succesfully imaged a machine. However- if I try to deploy it to more than ONE machine I receive a UDP Checksum error... what's that?? Any advice would be great x x x
