    Cheers for this- i'm getting this message now: Media is unrecognized. The media in drive 'CERTANCE 2' is written in an unrecognized format. Erase the media to make it usable. This is not good... why would it do this all of a sudden?

    Hi, We've had our daily backup tape running fine for a long time until after the school holidays. Now it keeps saying 'Job exceeded its maximum runtime' and it's cancelling the job. When I come in the morning the tape is ejected. We're using Backup Exec. Any thoughts on how to resolve this? We've had a few days without backup now and i'm getting scared...

    Hello, We have a risograph here in school. I managed to locate a driver for our new 64-bit machines but EVERY time a user goes to print it defaults to 'letter' rather than 'A4'... it's driving me NUTS! How can i keep the settings to A4??? It doesn't seem to do it with the 32-bit driver... J

    We've got a new physical server and I want to transfer everything from the old one onto it. The old server has shares etc... and SIMS. I do have access to a company who will migrate SIMS as we have a service contract with them but that's as far as it goes.

    That sounds more simple than i imagined...! ) My only fear is relating to the SIMS stuff and files and folders but can this be done last? My next question is- can this all be done while the school is open...?

    GOT IT FIXED!!! Took it our local Electronics repair shop. Turns out it was the capacitors so it looks like the others we have here, which have all started doing the same thing, can be fixed as well. Those capacitors must only last so long... Only cost about £45 to get it fixed. Cheaper than a new amp

    Hello! We've got a new server running Server 2008 R2. Our old server, currently in operation, is running 2003. Is it possible to just blitz everything over onto the new one? Group policies, usernames etc...? I was thinking if i tidy up the current one it would be simple just to send everything over to the new server. Is this possible???

    My only gripe is we've moved to a predominantly Windows 7 network. Upgrading our server to 2008 so i'm trying to get rid of all the XP machines... If only everyone were open to Linux! I'd have that on EVERYTHING.

    Hi, I'm reviving some old laptops here and want to put Windows 7 on them. I've put it on one of our old DELL 505's and it runs ok apart from the video. I cannot find a way to get it into a higher res than 640 x 480. Any help? I've looked for a solution but cannot find one.

    Hiya! I don't how it's possible but one of our Fizzbook Spin netbooks (the 10.1" version) has had its screen smashed (poor blighter). Does anyone know a good source to get it replaced? Appreciation in advance! J

    Sounds like a plan! I'm not the best at implementing stuff like that though... the spec i've been getting for a new server is 2 x quadcore, 16gb RAM, 2 SAS drives for OS and 4 x 1Tb drives using RAID 5. Think the Tb drives would be needed? Sorry to sound like a noob...but i am a bit! When you say 'deomted to file server' what would the new server be doing vs the old one? Would i need to change much on the old server?

    Haha! Knowledge points are always satisfying Good man! The server acts as admin and curriculum basically serving the admin side of things with SIMS etc..., acting as a file server for staff and pupils. Domain controller, DHCP server.

    Sorry my bad- it's 2013. It's about to get hit with just short of 200 devices and seems to be running slower than i'd like... plus we have a whole network of Windows 7 machines now all trying to run with server 2003.

    Well then... a can o' worms. As a continuation of this slight dilemma I wondered what you might think of the following: Synology vs QNAP vs DROBO? Which do you think from all of those would be the best backup solution? I'm leaning towards QNAP but i've heard that Drobo uses BeyondRAID or something? @soveryapt We use remote backup but just for our admin and SIMS but like you say, the price for any more is shocking.

    Perhaps if the disks can be removed to a secure and fireproof location every week though- wouldn't this be just as effective?
