So I would just basically send an image (with SP1) to a client machine, do the updates manually and then pull that image back and send it out again to other clients? -
Just an extra note- is there a Win 7 image anywhere with ALL updates including SP1 up to today? If not- how do i integrate those into the image or will I have to still perform the updates on each machine?

That's great. As we already have 2008 R2 setup on our server though, would it be a problem doing it on there do you think? Thinking about it most of our Applications are installed via Group Policy anyway so i'd just need a Windows 7 image with all the updates that i could push out...

Hi, I've been doing a fair bit of research into this and come a blank. I'm looking for a simple way to install Windows 7 on a clean machine, customise it with relevant software such as Office etc... and then grab a copy of that image using Clonezilla to deploy using PXE... Not sure how to do it. I've done it using FOG but want to use Clonezilla as our FOG server has run low on space. Can the Clonezilla image be deployed using Windows 2008??

Cheers Steve- you've put my mind at ease a little there. It must only be staff who are using them so hopefully the kids won't get their hands on them! Would I need to set up an Apple ID for our school? Then just plug the iPods into my office PC for example that has iTunes on it? J

Hello, A member of staff has managed to somehow persuade our head to purchase 5 iPod touches, based on the fact there is one piece of software that will be good to use for Foundation stage children. Some kind of child management software or something by 2Simple. I have nothing against Apple (i am a hardened Mac user) but bringing them onto our Windows network makes me shudder a bit. My first question is: If they go ahead with this, which they probably will no matter what i say, what's the best way to manage the devices? 2- How do you download apps on them without having to do it on each individual device? 3- Do you think it's a good idea for them to be used in Foundation stage with children aged between 4-5? 4- Is there a clinic i can go to if it all goes wrong? J x

Hello, I'm trying to slipstream Windows 7 Professional but don't seem to be able to do it. I'm using RT Seven Lite but when i point to the OS folder for the disc there is no slipstream option... Also, I want to slipstream it with SP1 but can't do that either. What am i doing wrong???

They can open the program fine but when they try to open a PDF on the network it brings up that message

Hello, We've deployed Adobe Reader X across our network and it's chucking up a message saying that the file can't be opened because of security issues. I've been reading it's to do with the 'Enable Protected Mode' checkbox. All I want to do is to be able to disable it using a GPO across our network without a fuss (does that exist?!). Any step by step instructions would be gratefully received! Many thanks x

Sussed it- here's some GREAT advice- the drivers need installing on the Print server via a 32-bit machine. Connect to the networked printer as Admin, go to the additional drivers and check the x86 box from there and it installs them on the server. YES!! I'm gonna bump this thread because i'm suddenly having trouble with our C1100 and server 2008 64-bit. I'm not sure how to get 32-bit drivers on it for our XP machines that need to use the printer... Any tips please??

Does anyone know what's happening here? For some reason a few of the user folders - essentially where the users are having their home share redirected to - are automatically renaming themselves to 'My Documents' whereas some of the others stay as the users logon name i.e. swilson This happened before when our server was 2003 but i assumed it was an issue with windows 7 when trying to view them remotely on our server but now we have 2008 R2 it's started happening again. Hmmm...

Ok I've just had a look at a machine, whacked in gpresult and the new policy is showing up. GPO applied successfully!! So in short: Migrated proxy policy didn't work, created a new one with same settings, deleted the old one, computers work again... My question is: WHHHYYYYY???!!!! Why do computers DO these things to us?

The details are populated but the box to turn proxy settings on and off is set to 'off'...VERY weird!

It's doing it on all of our machines I've made a new policy now- going to see if it makes a difference. Even gpupdate didn't sort it originally so i suspect the policy may have something to do with it. Corrupted on migration?

Yeah it's all populated correctly- it's happened since the new server was installed and the policies migrated. Sounds like a new policy would be the way to go- cheers. I'll give it a try and post my results!

We've just had server 2008 r2 installed on a new server and suddenly the computers are losing the proxy settings. The 'settings' are there but the box is greyed out in the connection settings in internet options... this of course is driving staff crazy and i need a solution asap if poss!! Any idea why it is doing this?? We use GPO's.
