    I would have just used a system of plugging in a hard drive at the end of the day then the following day swapping it for another but a self-enclosed system seems to make more sense. That way it can be in a secure location and i won't need to swap them about all the time...

    What I thought might work though is using the same system but with hard drives... Using a full backup cycle. Daily and a monthly Friday backup. Wouldn't this be a good method? So the server literally backs up to drive one on a Monday, two on a Tuesday etc... and when it gets to Friday it backs up to four separate folders on the drive depending on the week... is this possible?

    Hi, Here at our primary school we are currently using a tape drive to back up our information but this is proving to be slow and we get intermittent errors with it. Even though this is a good enough backup solution we're looking at changing it to a more convenient hard drive backup solution. What would be recommended for this kind of thing? I was thinking some kind of multiple hard drive external HDD bay might do the job? Perhaps with 5 HDD's? Anyone know of a good solution to this without it being too expensive?

    Ok thanks I'll have a look. I've managed to get the printers working again just using the printer deployment using RSAT- the preferences were making printers appear twice in the printers and devices...which was confusing...

    Hello, We've had endless problems here with printing due to having a mix of XP and Windows 7 machines, plus a curriculum network and an admin network. We have a RISOgraph and the IP is on the admin range, gateway is on the curriculum range. This is so all computers can print to it. My question is this: What's the best practice for deploying printers? Is it per user or per machine? We have server 2003 so i'm running RSAT on my admin Windows 7 machine and i've been trying to deploy the printers via this. It's working a little but i'm struggling to work out whether to use printer PREFERENCES or printer DEPLOYMENT... and also- whether to make it per machine or per user. Hope you can help!

    Hi, I hope you can help. I am looking at making a resource which needs to do the following and i am not sure it is possible...!!! I hope it is: 4 buttons- title, sentences1, sentences2, animals What I want to happen is when the user clicks on a button, it brings up a box with separate words and sentences in it. The user must then be able to drag the word or sentence out onto the appropriate place on the flipchart. When they click a different button, e.g. animals, I want the previous box with words in it etc... to be replaced with the animals box. IS THIS POSSIBLE???

    Awesome- glad you got it fixed! There is NOTHING worse than printers on a network.

    Is there a cheeky little Group Policy being applied to the computers in your suite under Computer Configuration?

    It sounds like you could have a GPO preventing the printing from happening on your student/teacher/office objects. Have you checked any of the settings on those that could cause the problem? Also- are you using the printer management service i.e. Printer deployment?

    Hi, I've recently installed RSAT on one of our new Windows 7 machines to try and iron out our Server 2003 / Windows 7 environment... besides the niggly little issues we've been having one of the main ones has been printing. Sporadic printing. Using RSAT i have attempted to re-deploy the printers on our network using the printer management console so that we don't have any more issues with the Win 7 machines sometimes picking them up and other times not. The only trouble now is since doing this the printers which were originally picked up are now duplicated in the devices and printers control panel... is there any way to remove these duplicates? We do have some XP machines still on the network too.

    Hey guys sorry for not getting back in touch it's been crazy here- didn't manage to fix the problem as it disappeared next time i went to check it...VERY bizarre... still in the dark about what it was and why it happened!

    Yeah it's renaming about four folders the same. If i change the folder name to the one in the address bar- it changes the others! Mandatory profile for all of them. It's hard to say now if it was made with the account as the folder will have been created at logon using the homeshare. It sounds similar to the Win7 issue but as i'm looking at these folders on the actual server- it must be something else... What a bizarre mind bender!

    No that's the weirdest thing- when you open the folder the address bar tells me it's a folder with a different name! It's like the name of the folder i am seeing is a 'mask' if that makes sense?

    How bizarre...sounds like a good idea but the only problem is these duplicate folders contain user work- they're ultimately the users 'My Document' folder / server share... so i'm not sure what to do. I wouldn't be able to just delete them and we don't use personalised profiles for desktops etc... The screenshot is of the users home folders. I didn't set up our server (it was set up before i arrived at this school) so i'm just working with what i've got until we get a new one. Any ideas?

    Hi, For some WEIRD reason I've been having issues with our user profiles (Windows 2003) in that I have duplicate folder names (e.g. swilson, swilson, swilson) but when i open one of them it will be the profile for a different user in the address bar!! If I change the folder name to that user- it duplicates the name and replaces the folder name of some others almost randomly... what's happening? I thought it was a corrupt profile at first but it looks like something else may be happening. Any ideas? It's driving me nuts.

    Alas, as fantastic as this is we are still running Server 2003 R2 but when we change- this will be a God send! Thanks so much. Is there any fix for Server 2003 like this?

    It's a shame tape drives are so expensive. Think it'll be possible to put our DELL tapedrive into a new server? A HP for example?

    Still haven't had a look at the sound settings yet!! It's MEGA busy here but i'll get on it soon and post back.

    I followed this methos and it works great- thankyou. It's an unusual way to view folder names but works nonetheless and saves me a lot of bother!
