Hi, we are looking to replace our old tungsten stage lighting with LED units. I was just wondering if anyone here has updated their wiring and dimmer packs for this purpose. And if they can give me a rough idea of the cost, and any unforseen problems that may have arrisen? I don't need prices for fixtures, we will be looking at that later. I just need to know how much a rewire is likely to hit us for? Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know if you can buy just the plexiglass screens for iMacs? We have a couple of rooms of the 21.5" Late 2013 macs that have the screen stuck on with what I assume is some kind of glue. Two of them have been damaged and there are a couple of cracks spreading across the glass. The screen underneath is fine as is the rest of the mac. I'd just like to be able to replace the screen without having to send it off to Apple for 'diagnostics' then repair.

Hiya! I don't how it's possible but one of our Fizzbook Spin netbooks (the 10.1" version) has had its screen smashed (poor blighter). Does anyone know a good source to get it replaced? Appreciation in advance! J

Hi all. Just thought I'd throw this out there for your opinions. Have inherited an aging network as part of a new systems manager job. Girls school, 800 students, 100 or so staff, 300 workstations. 10 existing servers, all but 1 is over 8 years old, as follows: 1. PDC. 8 Year old Dell Poweredge. AD, DHCP, DNS and currently hosting Musac SMS data 2. FILE SERVER. 9 year old Proliant P3 3. ITM 8 Year old Dell Poweredge, hosting eTrust and Sibelius S/W 4. PRINT 9 year old Dell Poweredge. Printer, PapertCut NG and superVisor.net\ 5. MONITOR. PC Box, running management software for swipe card print boxes 6. BACKUP. 8 Year old Proliant P3. Failed Exabyte Tape system 7. DCBACKUP. PC Box, P3, 512mb. Backup Domain Controller 8. WEB Proliant DL140. 3 Years old. Intranet and Moodle server 9. WEB TEST Dell PowerEdge 10 Years old. Internal student websites 10. TECH. Proilant ML350, 6 Years old. Tech (installers, WSUS etc.) Gigabit from servers to main switching, 100Mb copper within buildings, 100Mb Fibre between buildings. Variety of 100Mb Switches around school. Fairly typical Replacement plan is: 1. New 'Systems' server to host Antivirus, Print and Monitor, Ghost and backup with new LTO4 backup drive. Virtual servers for AV, Print and Monitor. Retire existing ITM, PRINT, MONITOR, BACKUP and TECH Servers 2. New server for Domain Controller. Retire existing PDC 3. New 'Apps' server to host SMS and any other network based apps 4. New File server or SAN/NAS for file storage. Retire existing FILE SERVER 5. Keep existing web server, migrate test web server to virtual server on this box Hope this makes sense. Basically I want to consolidate the important, but non critical roles (AV, PRINT, GHOST, BACKUP etc.) onto one box, put a new PDC in, move file storage to 1 box and continue to use existing Web Server. Any thoughts on this? I can provide more info if necessary

Hi all, Further to my recent post about my battles with duplicate files, does anyone know of a piece of software which allows you to choose a location for a group of duplicates and then it deletes all the duplicates and replaces then with shortcuts to the location you specified? The reason I ask is that doing it manually is fine for the few larger suspects, but as there are currently 236,000 files deemed duplicates, it may take a few thousand years for me to do it by hand... Cheers Tony

Has anyone ever changed a HDD for a Sony VGN-N21E or has any documentation on how to do so? I have checked the official Sony website and they have nothing.

Hello All, I am looking for some advice on upgrading one of our servers with new 600GB SAS hard drives from our current 300GB SAS drives. We would like to buy the drives and install them ourselves as when we have asked for quotes for installation it has gone over our small budget for the upgrade. Our drives are in a RAID 5 array and we have been told by one supplier that we would have to destroy the RAID array and replace the drives and then do a disaster recovery. We can create the RAID array easily via the hardware interface of the RAID card but should we stick with RAID 5 or go with another RAID level. How do we do a disaster recovery backup using Backup Exec 2012 on an RM CC4 Network without breaking anything when we did the restore? The server we hope to upgrade is our primary domain controller and it is something we have not done this before so any help would be appreciated. Regards

Morning my fellow edugeekers. You all getting as much snow as us? :-) I am trying to find where I can buy replacement keyboards for a notebook (Compaq Mini 311) and laptop (Compaq Presario CQ61) but I am really struggling to find a place to buy which isn't ebay (not allowed :-( ) Where do you all get them from? Thanks a lot. SamanthaJane

Hi Everyone, Does anyone have a recommendation for just buying iPad LCD's - Currently I have a 6th Generation iPad with a cracked screen and would like to replace it myself if at all possible. I've already looked at a few companies for repairing iPad screens and they are either too expensive or aren't really trustworthy enough. Does anyone have a idea of somewhere I can just buy the parts to the iPad so I can fix it myself, I've looked on Amazon but all the parts seem a bit fishy as most of them have the same pictures and 5* reviews... Best Regards IT_Turn_It_Off_On

Hi Guys I've just taken on my first school as a self-employed IT support guy. The school has a watchguard appliance which was due to expire next week. We've renewed the licence for a year to buy us some time, but the appliance they have is EoL in December. So my question is, seeing as we have to replace it anyway: Do I stick with Watchguard, or can anyone recommend alternatives? Its a 4-18 school so I need something that will cover everything. We're not a huge school, but it is growing.
