Hello. We've been having some trouble with a printer driver and wondered if there's anyone here who could write a script that would: 1- Stop the printer spool service 2- Remove a set of .dll files 3- Start the print spool service It must be simple to do this? It would need to be able to run at login using GPO and AD.

Dear All, Does anyone have a script that I can point at a named directory and it will delete any file that has not been accessed since dd/mm/yyyy All the staff at my school are hoarders and they do insist on keeping every photo, you tube clip and document they have ever produced. I have been threatening to do this for ages but they have not listened so now it's time for action. Thanks in advance Ian

Hi all, We're testing Win 7 and have an issue where students can see all the hidden files on a drive we use for running apps. I have logged on the machine as local admin and set it correctly but when they log on, still shows the hidden files. Thought it may be written in their mandatory profile, edited the profile making the change, wrote it back, same problem. Tried applying the following reg setting through GPO but still they can see these damn hidden files! Am I missing something obvious here? User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] Value Name: ShowSuperHidden Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value) Value Data: (0 = Hide Files, 1 = Show Files) Thanks very much in advance. Gary

Hi All, I'm migrating user data from one server to another and while I'm at it I'd like to sort a little headache while I'm doing it... Since I've been at my current school (3 yrs) all user folders have been called 'username' but then have a 'cached' and 'uncached' folder below. All the users actual files are in the 'cached' folder and the 'uncached' is empty (I think it may be a legacy from our ClassLink XP days) Is there a quick way that I can batch copy all files and folders from the 'cached' folder up one level to the 'username' folder, for all of my users (200+) , so that my share paths are \\server\students\username instead of \\server\students\username\cached ?

Hi all, I'm looking into the possibility of allowing pupils and staff to access their files remotely (over the internet from home, say...) through Sharepoint. I was told somewhere down the line that it can incorporate this functionality and I've tried installing Sharepoint Services 3.0 on one of our services to see if I could work it out but I seem to have fallen at the first hurdle and cannot find any documentation explaining how this is possible. Does anyone know if it is actually possible or not and if so is there any kind of intro to adding this feature? Thanks for your help, really appreciate any help anyone can give on this issue. Richard.

Hi, We have just started giving staff access to a Sharepoint Portal which is run by our LEA. When a computer accesses the website for the first time the member of staff is prompted to download and install a .dll file. Throught their use of the portal they are asked to download several different .dll files. So my question is split into two: 1. Does anyone have a list of all the .dll files Sharepoint might want to install on the local workstation? 2. Can anyone tell me if I can deploy them around the network using an MSI. I can then get the .dll files from the LEA and deploy them. Many thanks Gareth

Hi all, Further to my recent post about my battles with duplicate files, does anyone know of a piece of software which allows you to choose a location for a group of duplicates and then it deletes all the duplicates and replaces then with shortcuts to the location you specified? The reason I ask is that doing it manually is fine for the few larger suspects, but as there are currently 236,000 files deemed duplicates, it may take a few thousand years for me to do it by hand... Cheers Tony

Hey ... I have recently noticed .bat files being used by some client's these .bat files are some how enabling task manager .. What should I do and how?

Has anyone here got a document management system in place in their school? We have roughly 90,000 files in our public area, and 300,000 in our teacher's private areas. And as such things can be a little hard to find at times. Has anyone implemented anything to ease this problem? I have been looking at the Google Appliance (the non-mini one,as the mini one has too small a capacity). Has anyone else looked into this?

I have removed nearly all the pics and iMovie clips, but the iPad says that iMovie is taking up 5 or 6GB. Pupils say that they cannot record clips as the iPad is full, but I have deleted nearly everything - everything that *I can see*. How do I see and kill all the hidden iMovie clip fragments to actually free up space? Or is the only solution to wipe the iPad totally and reinstall the apps?

Hi I am trying to delete this PC of anything that has me on it (local chached things etc) Theres one folder (shown below) where they are 3 files that it wont let me delete, and there is no option when i right click them, to enable me to rename them. Any one have any ideas? Here's the path of the files

I have multiple log files of 10mb each. The content of the log files always look like this: 06.09.2012, 21:36:02:83: xxxxx yyyyyy zzz 06.09.2012, 21:36:02:84: xx yyy zzz 06.09.2012, 21:36:05:24: xxxxxxxxx yyyyyyyyyy zzzz The log files are in the same folder and have the following names File01.log, File02.log, etc. I want to create a new log file for every hour. This new log file can contain lines from multiple log files, since a file can end at 21:36:05 because it reached the 10 mb. The next logfile will then continue from that point of time. It is thus very random at what time a log file ends. One thing however is for sure. File02.log always follows up File01 and so further. My idea was to execute it in a .bat, using a for /f loop to loop through all files and parse out the date and time from the logging. I wanted to convert the date and time to seconds and compare this to an hour interval (which is also in seconds). If the time in seconds is bigger than the interval, the interval should be increased with an hour (both lower and upper bound). I had something in mind like the following code. I however have not much experience in programming so I am not sure if this is possible. Perhaps one of you guys can give me a push in the right direction or provide me with a solution. FOR /f "tokens=1,2 delims= " %%G in ('dir /O:N /b/s ^"C:\logs\R\*.log^"') DO while (records in the current logfile stille exist) ::insert a condition which checks whether the end of the log file is not reached yet DO DateFromRecord = %%G :: parse out the date TimeFromRecord = %%H :: parse out the time :: Make a variable that combines both the date and the time to a timestamp :: Create a function that turns the timestamp into seconds if (TimestampInSeconds ge lowerbound AND TimestampInSeconds lt higherbound) ::compare the time from file with the interval (in seconds) then copy line to a new log file elseif (TimestampInSeconds ge higherbound) :: if higher than the interval, increase the interval with a day and then lowerbound(loweverbound + aantal seconden van 1dag) higherbound(higherbound + aantal seconden van 1dag) done done

Morning, having a strange issue with two members of staff, both of which are editing a file, saving over the existing file in their own documents locations only to reopen the file to find it reverted to the original state. If they save as and change the name the file it is fine until next time they change it. Both staff using windows 7 laptops saving back to home location on a 2003 server (we have another 60 staff using same laptop from same image, with same permissions, and saving to same location). Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hi I have an odd issue on an old 2008 R2 server. Users report odd issues saving files whereby they can't save files with certain filenames and/or certain extensions in a folder. Trying to save with a slightly different filename works. When I do my tests this is what seems to happen; The user can create a doc called 123.doc in a certain folder. They can edit and save that doc. If they want to save that doc as a 123.pdf, using either Words Save As PDF option or a Word plugin, they get told that they don't have permissions to access that file, or sometimes that the file is read-only (depending on how they go about saving that PDF). However they can save the same file as 1234.pdf and that works fine, however they are then unable to rename it back to 123.pdf. Now, in all these cases 123.pdf doesn't exist. Sometimes it used to exist but was deleted, on other occasions it has never existed, was a completely new file. Anyone seen anything like this? I've tried; resetting the permissions on the folder/files chkdsk till I'm blue in the face Checked the raid controller for any errors Created new users and also new folders for the files, but the issue still happens, seemingly at random. Answers, if you have any, would be welcome. Olly

We recently had some photos of pupils from our school sent to us through google photos, now my twitch started when i could download all of the photos (including ones of pupils from others schools) and share the album with anyone My concern is that schools are woefully under equipped when it comes to the legal side of how technology is changing how files are accessed and shared and so are the parents of pupils. We are looking at moving over to having documents stored in the cloud and i know Microsoft take security seriously but no system is perfect and i feel that any file with any sensitive data should go near an online system. Has anyone else had these thoughts and what arose from them, have you mentioned it to management or simply felt it wasn't your place?
