  1. The PC's only have one network card in them... and they're not set to receive different IP's- just an IP from DHCP. They're set to automatically receive an IP from our server but surely they should get rid of the old IP before getting a new one?
  2. I've been having a few network issues recently with 'Limited or no Connectivity' occurring on a few of our PC's. I have a suspicion it could be something to do with duplicate ptr records: I've attached a screenshot to see if you can help. I'm not too fluent in server stuff like this so i'm just basing it on what i have been researching. I have set scavenging up to see if it removes these but i am assuming these duplicate IP's aren't right. It's the other way round too with multiple IP's for different PC's.
  3. Interesting. It appears to have started when I installed our new Brother network printer. Think that could affect it?
  4. Hi, We have an Activ +2 board with attached projector. We haven't had it that long as far as i am aware (it was in place before I arrived here at the school) but it has suddenly stopped working. The power light is flashing red. No light from the bulb. What could the problem be? Would I have to get Promethean out to fix it?
  5. Hmmm...would that only affect machines in our ICT suite though? The other pc's on the network seem to be ok...
  6. Hi, For some bizarre reason I have suddenly started receiving 'limited or no connectivity' issues on a number of machines in our ICT suite. We use software called 'AB Tutor' which is classroom management software and I have noticed that some of the machines aren't being picked up and other are displaying the wrong 'name' (e.g. IT001 is actually IT004) etc... If I login and renew the ip- all is well again. I have also noticed that all the ports on our switch are periodically flashing at the same time, all together intermittently. Could this be connected?
  7. I'll give it a try- didn't realise you could do that (DOH! Windows 7...) I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks for your help so far!!!
  8. Help needed- hope someone can help me soon!!
  9. Do you know where I would have to look?
  10. Ok just tried the Version 5 driver on a Win 7 machine and i'm still getting the Error- 'activcontrol2.exe' is not marked for installation... What now??
  11. Well I tried that and it gave me the message that the driver was only for XP... so it's stumped me!! I'll try it again using this driver you have given me but I did actually find the 4.1.14 from a previous download I made last year so it's probably the same one...
  12. Thanks for this! I haven't actually deployed it to clean machines i've deployed it to machines already running Activ Primary (with driver) so I may need the Install Reg key for the Win 7 machines. The Activ Manager icon (or any device icon for that matter) isn't there on the taskbar anymore nor is the driver in the Add/Remove programs. Really bizarre... The deployment just seems to have erased any trace of drivers. When I try to upgrade the driver on the Windows 7 machines using an installer all I get is an error code that says 'activcontrol2.exe is not marked for installation'
  13. I recently made the move to deploy Activ Inspire across our network. I followed all the network instructions in the PDF and also decided to deploy the latest driver too. After doing this- all of our boards stopped working. What seems to have happened is the new driver hasn't removed the old one and activ manager has disappeared too. This wouldn't be so bad but firstly i need the 4.1.14 driver from somewhere so i can uninstall it as it has disappeared out of view on our systems and also I need to know how to remove it from our Windows 7 machines. The Win7 machines are the biggest issue as I cannot find any MSI cleanup tools to sort it out. I found one for XP so it's not as much of a problem with those. Could someone help me ASAP?
  14. I've been granted with a lovely nightmare after deploying Inspire across our network. I deployed the driver too and it managed to affect ALL our boards and stopped them all from working!!! I managed to find an MSI cleanup tool to remove the old 4.1.14 driver (which seemed to be causing the problem) installed the newest driver and all is well...on XP machines... Our few Windows 7 machines however are a different story. I cannot, for the life in me, remove the old 4.1.14 driver!!! It doesn't say it is installed anywhere. Not in ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS or anywhere else. The MSI Cleanup tool only works for XP! If anyone knows of a similar tool for Win 7 PLEEEEASE help!!
  15. How do I do that? I'm not bad with networks but i've never had training of any kind so I need a little guidance sometimes
  16. Hi folks, We've just reached capacity on our server due to WSUS and its crazy Gb's worth of updates. I just wondered if you could provide me with a step by step on how to move the directory onto an external hard drive we have purchased just for this. Thanks in advance x
  17. There has to be something out there... I won't believe for a second they haven't been invented. And if they haven't...then we could make some big bucks
  18. Does anyone know where I can pick up some headphones that primary school children can use, that won't break after a few months?? We use them in our PC suite but the amount of times they have broken a dare not say.
  19. We have a VLE so if a plugin could be made that would be fantastic. Our VLE is hosted by an external company though so i'm not sure how extendable it is. I'll get in touch with them and see what they can come up with. Thanks for your help thus far!
  20. I'm just having a look at Wallwisher now. It looks good but I fear there would be too many long posts on there. I think keywords can be exciting and more inspiring and of course the bigger the keyword the more popular the idea. I'll give this Wallwisher a whirl but do you think you may be able to code something? Or know someone who could?
  21. @dhicks: Thanks for your query...i'll be as specific as I can! 1- Words from the ideas themselves would be preferable, removing common keywords. 2- Links from the word to the ideas associated with that word would be an amazing idea- I like that a lot. 3- Twitter-style limitation also makes sense. Limited to 100 characters would be enough. 4- Logging in from outside school would be good as a lot of ideas are devised from outside the workplace. If it was flexible like that it would give people more opportunity. 5- I'm not sure if ideas via email would fit in to the character-limitation idea. 6- Our current web host does offer a number of things but i'm not too sure if they allow CGI, PHP etc... I'm sure they could make an exception for us. As far as embedding content goes though they seem pretty flexible. Have you got the knowledge David? It sounds to me like you're coming up with a cunning plan...
  22. So am I right in thinking that if i find a word cloud and embed the code into a page that refreshes everytime a new 'idea' is added to the blog- it will change? This is basically what I would like to happen. Any coders out there who could help?? Would be an exciting project!
  23. That sounds like a good idea...! How do I do that then? We have our school website hosted by an external company so do you think that will affect it?
  24. Hello! I work in a Primary School here in the UK and I am looking for some help with something. As part of our creative ethos we are looking for some way of creating a real time, dynamic ‘ideas’ cloud that our staff can add to at any time. So for example if a staff member has an idea, they can log on to our website, type the idea(s) into a simple box with a send button and it updates a visual cloud in real time which we will have presented on our staffroom LCD screen… Of course over time the words will slowly change colour, get bigger or smaller or even disappear depending on how many people suggest that idea. It sounds like a feat of programming but I am convinced it is possible. Is this something you could help us with?
  25. Hi guys, Just ressurecting this thread. I bought 5 USB hubs for our 30 cams. All Sweex 7-port hubs with power adapters. I plug all the cams in, plug the hubs in and the battery icon appears on the Flips but no charging symbol. If I plug the hub into a pc the charging symbol kicks in and they start charging for a few seconds and then stop and say 'Check Battery Pack- charging paused'. Any more helpers on what I can do??
