CHiLL Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 I've just been looking through Sky's Nevermiss service to see what's coming up that might be worth recording and I noticed that Dave Gorman has a new show coming up later this month on Dave (the channel) called Dave Gorman: Terms and Conditions. I really like Dave Gorman (I'm going to his stand-up show in Dudley on Haloween!) and I really liked his previous show on Dave (Modern Life is Goodish). Apparently this show is of a similar format, with some differences and guests. I'm looking forward to it. 1
jthompson Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 Working my way through Peaky Blinders at the moment. Just finished S2. Great fun and I absolutely love all of the music they've used. There's a lot of P J Harvey in series 2, from an album of hers that's one of my all time favourites.

The book is a great read and the video if very funny.

LeMarchand Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 Finished Carnival Row Season 1 and loved it. It was slightly predictable: the only real surprises being the revelation about Jonah and Sophie and how quickly Imogen and Mr Agreus got around to, you know... , but this has probably been my favourite new show of the year. They must have been pretty confident of a second season, as a bit of judicious editing could've made the ending more of a series finale. One request: whilst I like shapely ladies' boobies and bottoms as much as the next guy, I really don't need them to get me to watch a show - can we do a GoT and tone it all down?

Got the notification for S2, so thought I'd give it a go, and OMG, I am enjoying the crap out of it. Not a laugh a minute, but really good police procedural with some smiles and some real drama.
Garacesh Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 I've been watching Carmen Sandiego on Netflix. Honestly, I'm not sure what I expected, but it's pretty good. Has a few educational snippets in each episode as a throwback to the educational games series it's loosely based on and a few groany CSI-esque technology segments but overall I'd say it's definitely enjoyable.

The Rookie is brilliant. A mixture of castle and Grey's Anatomy I'd say.

Starts on Sunday the 3rd November on BBC1 I was reading an article on the BBC about it earlier, and they've already started filming the second season, which means we won't get a repeat of the film version stopping after book one. Hurrah! (I am very excited. I adore the books.)

Hurrah! It actually ended before the end of Book 1. IIRC it seemed to have an ending that suggested more adventures whereas the ending of the book was much more of a cliffhanger. Still prefer the casting of Mrs Coulter in the film. Can't comment on Ruth Wilson's performance yet though.
mikeprice Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 The film version looked like it was crippled by trying to protect US religious sentiments just in case they thought it was anti-Christian I did think it had a lot of good points - it was a shame they seemed scared to carry on in case on annoying people who misinterpret the concept and would probably moan without ever seeing the film (on a similar note - when Life of Brian came out my friend had heard how bad and anti Christian it was - he had recently told me that when he finished his degree he was going to Cardiff to train to be a vicar so it was a problem. His reaction was to ask me to come and see it with him but he insisted on paying for both of us - on the condition that if he felt he had to walk out I would come with him and he would pay for me to see it again We both stayed for the whole film and never stopped laughing.) 1

CHiLL Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 I've just started Jessica Jones Season 3. It's the last of the Marvel shows I have to watch and thought I may as well get it out of the way. I loved Season 1, 2 was OK and 3 just seems a bit meh, a bit too focused on Trish for my liking.

Garacesh Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 Could not get in to Jessica Jones.. After loving DareDevil so much I gave it a good go, I really did. The last thing I remember, was David Tennant the bad guy who's in-universe name I can't remember telling a policeman officer policemanofficer to jump off the roof and Jessica saved him. It just really didn't interest me. Left a bit of a bland taste and I haven't tried Luke Cage or The Punisher because of it.

Enjoyed some of it, but it feels as if Howard "Misfits" Overman's writing is being toned down for the US market. Though the multiple time-jumps scene did have a very dark end. One big surprise - Haley Joel Osment has a surprisingly decent singing voice.

Raising Dion - half way through this, It normally starts well, dies off in the middle then builds back up and the end, making you want to watch more.
