I've just finished watching Dreamer it's a show about this IT guy who goes rogue. He starts in a fortune 500 company and quickly open sources everything. All production systems that don't support oAuth are removed costing millions. It's a bit of a horror/drama. Without spoiling it too much the IT guy ends up in jail over Windows licencing fraud.

It's one hell of a rollercoaster.

 

Why would he be using Windows if he only uses open source?

 

Plus 0 people have gone to jail over that.

 

Sounds unrealistic.

 

Unless that guy is Satya Nadella

Binged Stranger Things Season 3 over Friday/Saturday - absolutely loved it. It's just a shem they only make 8 epidodes per season!

 

I also watched race 1 of the Formula E (no spoilers, I'm watching Race 2 this evening). It was an exciting and event packed race!

 

My Brother-in-Law did the Mongol Rally (drove from London to Mongolia in a crappy car...a 2002 Vauxhall Agila). He's an avid photographer and had the cameras, drones and what-not. He made a documentary of the journey and spend the last year going through the footage, putting it all together into a film. He premiered it yesterday, hiring out a small cinema screen in a restaurant. It was great and amazing to see the adventures and scenery that he went through. The premier was being held in Wantage, Oxfordshire, so a 90 minute drive from Brum. On the way down the M40, I saw the Red Arrows join formation and fly over, which would have been for the start of the British GP. I also drove past Williams F1 HQ, which was nice. :)

 

After I got home yesterday, I watched the F1. Despite starting the race at 10pm, I'm glad I watched it all, what a race! It's rare that there's that much racing in F1 these days!

For all those watching What We Do In The Shadows, I saw my first "Nadja" in the wild at a concert on Friday. Somewhat disappointingly her boyfriend hadn't dressed as Lazlo, though he would've needed padding to carry it off.

Finished Season 3 of Stranger Things. Really enjoyed it and it left me craving for more. Note for those who haven't (and maybe those who have)...there's an after credits scene.

 

Next on my list is Killing Eve Season 2. I have three of the six weeks off this year, so maybe that'll give me the time to binge everything I need to.

 

Will your BIL's show being made public? Reminds me of Trabant Trek (it's on Amazon Prime, sorth a watch)

Yeah, he plans to make it available for public viewing, though he's still not sure where or what time scale. I'll try to message you when it does get published online.

Ghosts

 

 

Amiable comedy from the Horrible Histories/Yonderland crew about a young couple who inherit a mansion full of somewhat annoying ghosts. Also starring Charlotte "possessed by a Dalek" Ritchie. Can't imagine it becoming a classic, but it made us smile and occasionally laugh out loud.

We've just finished Years and Years. They've packed so many issues into that series! Very enjoyable.

Some of the futurology tech was refreshingly solid, but in the last couple of episodes it started to get really cheesy, especially given it's not that many years on. The wider political stuff was just the right combination of zany and plausible.

I thought the tech at the very end was a bit of a reach considering it was only 15 years down the line. That's just the Sci-Fi writer in him bidding for freedom, but along the way I can see most of the rest being relatively plausible.

 

AI capable of replacing accountants? Yup, we do love training algorithms for funsies these days.

Human augmentation? Yup

Signor? Alexa/Siri/Google Home etc. Though maybe having it hardwired into all electrical wiring is a bit far fetched.

Self Driving Cars? Yup

Quantum computers? Yup but with a caveat that the interface would be a damned sight more intuitive than it was in the show!

 

I'm not sure breath ID will take off though :)

Last night we watched the quite remarkable, totally mad & very funny What About Dick?

 

A play written by and starring Eric Idle, plus a host of comic greats.

 

Inane, funny and just a bit of silliness, Idle gets enough smutty innuendo in there that Kevin Smith would be happy if it were one of his films.

The cast knew their songs, but had not been given the script so had to read from copies during the performance.

Have watched all 18 episodes, similar in some ways to Lost but has a major swerve half way through and is quite clever

 

I've got as far as ep 10 and I'm struggling to remember a swerve. I'm finding most of the leads annoying. Quite surprised by its renewal. Gonna stick with it to the end of S1 at least.

I guess AJWhite1970 means the climax cliffhanger in episode 9 (which AFIAK came from the show not knowing if it was going to get a back-half order when they made it - in the US airings ep9 was the pre-Christmas finally). The show did seem to have a subtle shift in direction/tone after that. Especially with the newer character's introduced.

 

Also yey for Killjoys, but sad as it's the final season.

Binged my way through Another Life on the weekend.

 

Astronaut Niko Breckinridge is focused on searching the world for alien intelligence. She leads a crew that is on a mission to explore the genesis of an alien artifact that has been found on Earth. As Breckinridge and her young crew investigate, they face unimaginable dangers on what may end up being a one-way mission. Katee Sackhoff stars as Niko.

 

Without giving anything away I must say that this show has sucked me right in (if that wasn't obvious with me watching the whole season 1 in under a week). Can't wait for season 2.

 

Also started on the first episode of The Boys. Looks good so far

Watching Killing Eve - way behind with everything due to hospital visiting but anyway

 

 

really impress with Killing Eve - several bits where we both just jumped or shouted

 

even knowing she does that - they can still shock - and not make it silly or gratuitous

 

and the character interplay is so complex - and so simple - all at the same time

 

must get onto Keeping Faith next

 

 

 

Oh - and the end of Tour of Poland - but that is different - anyway Vuelta coming soon!!!
