Just using the default mail app given the age of the iPad I didn;t want to go as far as installing a yahoo app - the thing seems to be having enough probels dealing with what is running as it is! They are happy with what I have left them with - which is the main point

Quick update I have been back to the couple I was trying to help Their eamil can be accessed on their iPad via Chrome OK it is slow but it works I have deleted their email from the iPad and tried to set it up again and all that and it just won;t do it The iPad is quite old - so I am assuming that it is not responding fast enough for the Yahoo server which gives up anyway - always did hate Apple thanks for your help Mike

Thanks all I had already tried the clear cookies and all that but I tried it in Brave - just because it is different and that had the same result then tried it again yesterday and it worked no clues as to why but anyway I now have a Yahoo email address the couple that I am helping have a desktop (probably a laptop from what they say but whatever) so I will try logging in directly to the email address on that and see where we go If I can get on and delete some old emails and get onto their cloudy thing and delete a load of screen shots and old photos then I might get somewhere looks very much like Yahoo is not working very well I suppose it is getting rather old!!! thanks again mike

Hi everyone - it's me again Anyway - since giving up working i have been trying to help out people with some computery stuff I have recently started volunteering with Age Concern to help people who go to them for help with IT Anyway - a week or so ago I was asked to help out another volunteer that was having trouble with a couple that are local to me Basically they have a Yahoo email account - to be fair I wasn;t even sure Yahoo was still operating but I said I would help AT the time I discovered that Yahoo was having problems so we decided to abandon ship for a day or so until it was sorted We went back a few days ago ANyway - lovely couple - looked mostly like their Icloud (yes - they use an iPad, sorry about that) folder was full up the otehr volunteer had told them that and they had gone through their images and deleted a load of them but, of course, had not realised that the safety system would not have deleted them so we did that - and it made naff all difference to the space used on the drive We tried to go through setting and all that and look at the account in more detail and that's where things got more interesting when we tried to do things to the account - like sign in directly - it either just threw us back to the previosu screen or froze for a while a and then gave a "Gateway Timeout" message I was pratting about with it for over 30 minutes and got this gatewya timeout several times over that interval browsers and stuff were all working fine so it wasn't a wifi/network problem unless it was at the Yahoo end Anyway - I ended up having to give up I have tried to set up my own yahoo account to play around a bit (as you do) basically I can set up the account a far as entering the new userid and password and basic details - name etc it is communicating because when I try a simple userid it rejects it as already in use - so it is talking to its security database in some manner but then it wants to send an security code to my mobile - which is quotes and has correct which never arrives I have tried this several times on different days - always the same so - the question is Yahoo still a thing? is it working? has anyone else had thins and knows why - or even fixed it thanks Mike I have tried it several time

That's one word for it He was very IT much an IT expert - in his own mind - but we did explain a few points when he had gone wrong and once he realised he apologised and realised what he had done He said he just didn;t think the kids would find it - which was quite funny once we asked if he would leave bottles of acid out with kids around and he saw the connection His wife being in the room at the time (she was Head of MFL) at the time rolling her eyes and shaking her head helped This sort of thing is OK if the Teacher in question is realistic, accepts your expertise in the area over his and is generally OK other IT based things occurred with other teachers and rather than just having a friendly discussion we had to fix it and get SMT to have a serious talk with them but you know that type of teacher I always had the advantage of being an IT person AND a teacher whereas in my opinion being a teacher should have been irrelevant if we were talking about IT but it made a difference far too many times

No idea becuase I left just before that and that was Primary anyway but when I worked in Secondary we had a rules that no phones were to be SEEN in school a certain amount of blind eyes were turned in corridors at lunch or break but not too much It did help once I was on break duty and noticed a gaggle of kids around the corridor just up from mine specifically the Science labs as I approached there was a cry of "It's Mr Price" and there was a lot of general fumbling and stuff and I saw several phone being put in bags But why here when they knew someone was on duty at break - and Manglement came that way from their offices??? so the IT technician went along next lesson and discovered an open, non password protected wifi access point i.e. NOT one of ours turn ed out the Head of Science had managed to get a bunch of old laptops and an old access point and was using them in his lessons in his room the access point had been initialised and plugged into an ethernet port in his room naturally he didn;t set a password on it as that would make it too difficult to get the laptops connected fro his lesson!! and - also naturally - the kids discovered it within a few days and started using it rather than using up they data on their phones!! I was not overly popular with teh kids for that but it did lead to a good GCSE lesson about security

This is always the problem with new "initiatives" in schools a school has 5 or 6 lessons a day and a certain number of weeks per term to add a new "subject" to this then someone has to remove something maybe remove teaching is Henry 8th from History or whatever I would agree with removing phones from class most of the time I certainly never allowed them to be out in my class when I was a teacher but that was a few years ago but having a place to safely keep them should be part of a help to the solution another part of the solution should be looking at harmful effects of devices of all type but that would have to be inserted into the GCSE syllabus - which means removing something somewhere and it would be another topic in the exam where the teachers can tell the pupils they are almost certain to have some sort of question on this when I taught proper GCSE I could tell them about 3 or 4 questions that politically had to be on the paper in some way or other anyway - I'm woffling

so - if you have clever kids they might think that when Dad upgrades his old phone - or any other opportunity arises where an old phone may be lying around unused and un-noticed then there is an opportunity to grab a phone and be seen to put it in the pouch and then have their own phone available in their bag whenever they want I mean - the kids I taught may not have always got good GSCE result but that would have occurred to them in about 10 minutes!!! not exactly fool proof - well - it is fool proof - but not devious kid proof

What - I'll have you know that I currently have only ONE shed a good properly erected by a properly experienced person - shed

Hi all Bit of a question in the hope that someone on here will have come across this before I am doing some work for the local FoodBank supporting them with computery stuff and they have received an email from those nice people at Microsoft The Microsoft Business Premium Grant will expire in a few months and they seem to want us to "transition" (i.e. move) to Microsoft Business Basic instead or another Microsoft 365 "offer" for non-profits. So - the question Has anyone else come across this and is it a downgrade and if it is a downgrade then what is affected to be fair there are only about 5-6 people who actually use Office in the trust - most adminy and other stuff is done by the overarching central place thsi is just the local section that most just get and distribute the food and stuff I just want to be sure that what Microsoft are saying is not going to have effects that I have not spotted DIfficult to see what it is all about myself as I don;t really do much in terms of creating documents and other things so I won;t see the effects myself until it is switched over thanks in advance Mike

This has been noticed on "another forum" but they;re to polite to go on and on about it!!!!! I mean - I go off for a few months and you lot are still at it!! (I do pop in to check what is happening - just don;t always post anything!

The school I went to was very hot on proper grammar and spelling and all that as it was the 1960s they did naff all teaching of typing - as can be seen anyway - I was talking about this with my wife teh other day and I cannot remember anything from school about semi-colons all other punctuation and stuff were hammered home but not them from what I remember Hope this helps

My experience is that they go in cycles you get more and more and they vary in quality - and when they reject you they pass the number on to 3-4 others then the system start to realise they have already rung you and you were no in their target zone so the calls slow down and stop then you get on a list again and they start up again The quality does the same - it increases until the good ones (well - good in that they are good at it) realise you won;t repond then your number gets passed onto others and so on probably but the bad ones are sometimes the clever ones - making obvious mistakes and anyone not spotting the easy things are likely to be more vulnerable which is morally terrible but possibly financially beneficial

I used to use them when I was a teacher they worked fine - I originally used the old Gyration but that was a long time ago there seem to be ones around with trackballs which might be useful they are quite good in that you can teach from the middle of the classroom - which annoys the kids which is always worth doing - and still control the screen It did get rid of the problem of being fixed to teaching from the front of the classroom if you were using the whiteboard it also meant I could give the mouse to one of the kids and get them to do something without them having to wander all round the classroom to get to the front Might be worth seeing if you can get one to try it out and see if any teacher want one

Will be missed When I was a proper IT person I used to time my long distance trips so that I hit the motorway when his show started made the trip go faster - he was wonderful actually cared about the people will be missed
