I saw a system on trail at one school where I was the IT Tech for a couple of terms The Site Manager asked my opinion of it - it was basically an iPad (yes - I know) with an App on it all visitors were checked in and out on it and it printed an ID badge for them - and yes it had to have its own printer for that (!!!!) but anyway - the salesperson came in to see how it was going and was all confident he talked to the reception staff who loved it and spoke to the bursar who also said it was working well then the Site Manager arrived and asked what to do in a fire Easy - a member of reception staff grabe the iPad on the way out and you check off all visitors on it - it has a separate section specially for that purpose err - fine - sound good what if the fire is IN reception and the admin staff can't get to the ipad Oh err dunno it was ditched for an android system that was far less pretty but could connect to a file share on the network and the app could be installed on any android system so the visitors could be checked off on the field on any android phone - they had a cheap one anyway for SMT to use if they didn;t have their normal phone for $reasons

No idea if this is real or not I just sort of hope it is

Probably classed as vandalism - but I wouldn't move it! Reminds me of a little back road round Bangor when I lived there Only locals knew about it but there was a very narrow section built on a small cliff so it was controlled by a set of traffic lights that only allowed one way traffic at a time It was just on one side of the University main buildings at some point someone had drawn a smiley face on the green light - grumpy face on the red light and an in-between face on the amber one The road was locally known as the SMiley Face road someone from the council found out and an article appeared in the local paper saying how terrible it was that the lights had been "vandalised" and how much it would cost to fix it (some IPA and a rag would have done it in a minute or so probably!) but it got "fixed" a few days later the faces re-appeared to the pleasure of everyone - sorry , nearly everyone I presume!!!! anyway - end story

Just read some more about this apparently they were not "photoshopped" out - there were 2 different photos taken - one with and one without now - the obvious comment is "how did the teachers not notice!!!!" well - I have been there - done that and all that - photo day is a pain you have a time to get the kid sthere - the kids are excited - some of them NEED to get their hair sorted you need to get them presentable - ties vaguely straight, jumpers levelish hair not actually weird and all that the photographer has done this many time and so you just herd the cats and get them into position and try to make them look reasonable exactly what is happening is another thing I can totally understand how they missed this one and they are probably mortified at the result and if there were any TAs or even IT technicians involved in it - because cat herding is a team activity - they are probably mortified as well and it is probably not just that school I do wonder what comments the photographer ( or his company???) have got in the past - there migth be a good story there for any journalist??

Well - according to my SatNav and the last one and the one before to get out of our Estate (and no - I'm not landed gentry!) I have to "turn right onto Road" so it is a common name - apparently

I would suspect the kids in question were photoshopped out (other photo manipulation products are available!) to create the "more acceptable" versions I also suspect that the school had no knowledge and the teachers herding the kids around had no reasons to be suspicious lot of "suspect" words there - naff all facts but that is how I see it going - if the kids are disabled then they might well have been on the ends for practical reasons - making editing them out easier which may or may not have been deliberately set up Question I would wonder about - is this the first time this company (or any other) has offered this "service" or is it a common thing at "some schools"??

I would prefer to get a light with an integral camera - as we already have power to the light Also - would prefer to have one that doesn;t store the files "in the cloud" because that means some company has control over it and will, one way or another, want you to pay for it If it connects to the home wifi but stores the video on an integral SD card (probably microSD) then you have control over it If I need to look at it from a foreign country then I can log into my home computer from abroad using various systems if I need to - but I can;t see why I would need to In any case - everyone I know that has a Ring doorbell never answers the damn thing - especially if they are IN!!!!!! I always have to bang on the damn door! maybe just me (i.e. grumpy old git who has spent too much time looking at IT security!)

More importantly Happy Birthday Mrs mikeprice (her Mother had a thing for Saint's days Sister is St Valentine's day and her brother is St.$someoneelse Catholic Church thing I assume!!!) I have this sort of thing everyday The road into our estate in a tight turn off a main-ish road but the people that live on the corner have a big van (normally parked in the small driveway) a big pickup type thingy and a large family saloon type thing and they all park JUST out of sight round the corner - 3/4 of a car length from the main road and the people opposite also park on the road all park on the pavement to allow someroom (which is another conversation!!) but it means that the road is half blocked a lot of the time so if a car it coming the other way (out of the estate) then it gets confusing hence I signal left and slow down A LOT before actually turning as I can see naff all quite a few times cars behind be assume I will jsut breeze round the corner at 10-15 mph and have to slam the brakes on when they realise I am going at less than walking pace very similar to giving way to a pedestrian basically it is just people making assumptions and not paying attention not beena crash yet but am sure there will be at some point!
