Not a Dad joke but a story about one There was a phone call before - Mrs mikeprice's friend She was suggesting that 3 of then come round next Wednesday for a coffee and a catch up they suggested tenish I commented that she would need to find her trainers and shorts she gave me a funny look but didn't laugh I think she almost expected it! now - I wonder if I have an old raquet up in the loft???

Yes - we watched Scrublands as Mrs mikeprice noticed it was by the same people who did another Aussie one which was good Seems good so far - and has promise

I have had a load of phone calls recently that are different so I thought I would mention it They were all from "Chris" - who has a generic English accent Seems like normal stuff about loft insulation and sending a "surveyor" round but they cropped up several times a day and it was always "Chris" and he never seemed to remember me Always rang off after I had asked the name of his company in reply to several question ANyway - after a while I realised that there was no-one there - it was some sort of more sophisticated system using a recorded voice with responses - and presumably something to analyses what I was saying and work out if it was what they wanted or not I tried different responses and it went off in different scripts - so "cleverer" that the normal pre-recorded ones anyway - seems different so worth keeping an eye out for maybe!

On a similar subject - over the last couple of days I have had about 6 calls about loft insulation all have been from 0116 488 numbers and have refused to say what the name of the company is really rubbish call distribution system - had the same bloke several times so they are just wasting his time!

Some companies have been caught selling purchase details to outside companies which clearly results in cold calls from "extended warranty" companies haven't heard of any recently but it might be worth looking up who you bought that washing machine from and seeing if they have had a data "theft"

I do feel that for Primary having a trip out of the classroom is quite a good thing They spend most of the day in the same room - so having one or two "special" rooms is a nice break for Year 6 it also gets them used to moving around like they will have to do in "Big School" As well as getting them used to proper keyboards and mouses When I first started as a trainee teacher in 2003 my HOD commented that it was only a few years since he had stopped getting kids up from Primary who could not use a mouse at all - never seen one we are getting back to that stage nowadays

Check what else the hall is used for A lot of halls get used for basketball in bad weather Never yet met a group of kids that didn;t regard a low hanging projector as a target! so you might need to consider a cage either for the projector or the kids - either would work

Probably obvious and already tried but are the phones etc connecting to the same bands as the laptops? e.g. some 5GHz - other 2.4 GHz are they connected via different access point? (had that once - one port was duff on a router and it was connected to an access point!) Good Luck

My last school (Primary) had an IT suite and I found it useful to have The Head insisted that every class teacher in the Junior section used the room at least once a week - which forced them to think about what to use it for I also used it to teacher IT to Year 5 and Year 6 one afternoon a week It did give them decent exposure to full Office programs and proper keyboards - so I hope it would have helped them when they got to Secondary School I suspect it has been taken over as an extra classroom or other space

Not strictly relevant but yesterday there was - for a while - a Headline in The Sun that I objected to - even more than usual anyway - no politics and all that - but I went onto the independent complaints organisation website and registered a formal complaint OK OK OK - here comes the relevant bit I got a confirmation email which started with Thank you for your complaint. which sounds kinda wrong

I seem to remember my parents saying that my normal mode of travel in my Dad's Morris Minor was standing in the back on the transmission tunnel with one hand on the back of each seat quite safe in those days nowadays it is clearly dangerous

WHen I learnt to drive you ddin;t need to wear a seat belt the adverts from thingy were on teh telly but the legislation was not done yet I decided that I would always use one firstly for safety - but also because it was obvious that the laws would come in at some point and getting into the habit was a good idea I just don't feel properly clothed if I try to drive without one - I actually feel unsafe! I did have a few problems getting the grandkids - and their cousin - to stop moving the shoulder bit down below their arm seem to have managed it but explaining ti to them nicely they still do it in their parent's cars sigh

Easily explained It's from Portsmouth and Portsmouth is by the sea being by the sea inevitably leads to people fishing and fishermen are well know for getting measurements wrong (and I have heard that sailors do as well - in certain circumstances!) (yes I know it is Portsmouth USA and i have no idea if that is by the sea - but why introduce accuracy and fact when it is more amusing to ignore them!)

Thanks - I thought the WPA2 was OK but needed to be sure The timer plug is a good idea - I'll see if I can sort one out I have already got into the router - he may have been over the top with security but he left the admin password the same as it said on the card - so that was easy Ethernet is OK but some of the laptops do not have ethernet ports on them - and we have tablets that need wifi and I aim to see if I can revive a couple of them in the near future so wifi would be useful TO be honest I was worried about what had been done to the BT router because of what I had been told about the previous guy (apologies is he is on here - I am only getting one side of this so I am taking it with a pinch os salt) but it turn out that he had not done anything as dramatic as I feared WHen I manage to identify all the different boxes connected to the ethernet I may be able to ditch most of them and then I will have some free ports! It generally seems like a lot of the bits and pieces are ones that were put in several years ago and no-one remembers what they or or why they are there but that is OK - I have worked in about 3 school that were like that when I started - and this is a pretty small affair really!

Hi all I have started helping the local Food Bank with their computers - as stated elsewhere anyway - the office computers are VERY slow (next job!) so they tend to use their personal laptops in the office (yes - I know!) however there is no wifi there is a BT standard broadband router/access point but the previous IT person - who they fell out with - considered wifi a security risk and insisted on disabling it so they were "forced" to use they phones as hot spots and connect that way which is a clue - the only thing they need is the Trust's web site - which has proper sign in, security and 2FA and all that so any method of getting onto the Internet and using Chrome is good enough so the question is given that the broadband is pretty basic small business type - pretty much the same as domestic - is the standard security OK given a maximum number of users of about 2! As far as I can see the danger is someone hacking in and putting a keylogger (or similar) on the system and knicking the passwords but they would not know if it is the Food Bank's system from the SSID - it could just belong to a nearby flat or the Church it is in - in fact there are several overlapping wifi networks as well What is the current basic standard for wifi networks like this? Thanks Mike p.s. clearly I am out-of-date (insert joke here) so things have moved ona bit - hence the question!

Apparently she had not been sheared for over 2 years! so first stop was the baa-baa-shop They are making a short film of the rescue - it will be shown on ewe-tube apparently she fell down there after tripping on a stone still accidents wool happen

No it isn;t it's just discriminatory and inaccurate - I have not owned a comb for years mind you - I also have not looked in a mirror for years!

In my 2010 Honda Civic the rear seats are quite thin vertically - which allows them to be folded up when the seat back is vertical - thus revealing a large high area Only found that about a year ago It does however mean that when the seats are just normal back seats then there is a large space under them which is great - except it does mean that there are a lot of hidden thing in my car In many cases I can confidently blame the grandkids

When I was 17 I went to Canada and worked ona farm for a few weeks They had a car like that and a tractor I drove the tractor a few miles down the road with a wheat wagon behind it a few time AT one point I had to approach a main road and turn left onto it - had to time it so I arrived at the road when there was a gap as there was no way I could stop the thing When I got to the grain depot the farmer (who we knew) would be waiting on a small slope so I could stop and he could chuck a rock behind the wheel I was male and 17 and it seemed fine to me at the time!!!
