Currently reading "The Battle of the Narrow Seas" it is about the small RN boats such as MTBs and MGBs that were in use in coastle areas in WW2 includes the attach on the dock at St Nazaire (spelling????) by HMS Cambletown among things Not the best written book ever - relies a lot of diary entries from the actual people - so not professional writers - but it does give a much different view of a much neglected area of the war and one with very high casualty rates at times Many times it relates an action where the boat withdrew because all the crew were unable to continue due to injury!!! pity none of those boats survived and were preserved - just the sound of the engines must have been really something!

I have been getting this advert on "another forum" Really not sure that their target market will be as large as possible by addressing them as "Elderly Men" I might use a phrase like " the older man" or basically just not mention age and use some other feature and anyway - what is different about an older man's foot? (and NO - I can;t just look down and see - cheeky whatsits!!!!!!)

I generally set my tyres to about 75 psi sorry - were we naot talking about bikes - whoops wrong forum anyway - more to the point I also have never had tyres set right by people putting new tyres on it I have seen them do it and have never seen one open the drivers door to check the plate to see the correct amount hence they must be just lobbing in an average amount I always set them myself when I get home ( cheap looking electric pump with a gauge on it that came with the car)

Stopped by the side of a canal yesterday and looked up a Buzzard (I presume quite a long way up) was lazily circling over the field opposite then swooped a bit left and resumed circling the other way round did this for ages must have been something there it was interested in!!

AKA - the one and only recorded instance where a user read the error message on a printer

Contrary to teh above post Ihave only just found this thread on my ebike - have I mentioned that I have an ebike well I do actually I have 2 - well Mrs mikeprice has one and I have one but as she has never ridden it I think of it as mine any I have 2 ebikes before that - at different times anyway - what was the point?? Oh yes gravel bikes In my opinion they have their place - serious gravel but they are marketed as if they are a requirement for anything that is rougher than pristine tarmac - so smooth that Rocket Ronnie wouldn;t complain about potting a tricky blue into a corner pocket on it - and the sort of mountain track that normally has a goat photographed on it in reality they are great for really rough tracks - especially ones with rough gravel surface - where you don't need the extremes of the mountain bike knobbles BUT most of the tracks that people use are not so rough that any half decent hybrid will cope perfectly well with them On my ebike (did I mention that I have an ebike???) I have fairly smooth tyre and it copes with the normal tow paths and tracks around here with no problem OK - there are some bits of especially muddy bits that I avoid in winter and otehr bits that get "interesting" in the wet due to lack of grip - and those bits would be better on more knobbly tyres but I could easily swop the tyres over if I wanted or even go mad and have 2 sets of wheels with different tyres on each set If I was going to be using more serious paths up and down rocky slopes then I would go full MTB ratehr than gravel but them I am and old fat bald bloke and tend to come down rough tracks slowly rather than using techniques raleted to the verb "hurtle" and "zoom" and "crash" and the thing about knobbly tyres - whether gravel type or MTB type - is that their rolling resistance is terrible on roads compared to smoother tyres so it takes less energy to get to the tracks (other options are available - such as driving which uses even less energy unless you count the car!!!) anyway - in my opinion - gravel bikes have their place and it isn;t in my shed but they are a marketing dream like "cloud" and probably "AI" BTW - did I mention that I have an ebike??

Exactly WHen I was a proper IT person (programming, and all that) we always insisted people in our team (i.e., technical support for the normal programmers) could program in assembler as well 3rd gen languages such as Fortran and Cobol Our theory was that being able to use assembler menat that you had a good idea of what the actual machine was doing and why x took longer than y I remember trying to explain to a systems analyst why using the interpreted language that their team normally used was too slow for a specific task - I ended up running a test where doing the same task in assembler took 24 seconds, Cobol took 25 seconds and ScreenWrite (which uses the interpreter) took several minutes. AI is just taking people further away from the machine and hence further away from knowing what is actually happening - and more importantly WHY it is happening

This one cursory of the oldest grandkid They were reading a book in class at school and the word "gullible" came up SOmeone asked the teacher what gullible meant she replied "The meaning is written on the ceiling" Nearly every child immediately looked up I think I like that teacher!!! (grand daughter claims she was not one of the ones who looked up as she already knew what it meant!!!)

Made a curry for my children tonight but they wouldn't eat it because I put ginger in it. They really loved that cat. My neighbour said her cat needed chipped. I only had a nine iron but still managed to get it over the fence.

I would suggest that the last sign that you passed is the pne that is legally valid so if you pass a 50 sign made of metal - but then the overhead sign says 60 - then you can do 60 however, if you get a speeding ticket for doing 60 then I have no idea how you could prove that the last sign you proved said 60 when the traffic people can easily find paperwork that shows that the road was dropped to 50 due to the roadworks So I would stick to the road work signs unless the overhead ones are lower You would thing that they would be synced - but who knows how well designed their computer system is??

I have 3 grandkids There are lots of things hidden in my car - mostly rotting - mostly crisps and sweets (probably - some just fluffy) some plastic things occasional dinosaurs and cars

The instruction manual probably tells you so if you haven't figured it out in a year or so you could try reading it??
