  1. Yes - Happy St George's day everyone didn't even realise it was ST George's day until I saw people mentioning in on "another forum"
  2. Little story - 'cos I know you like them anyway - when I was a kid - i.e. up to middle teens - I only drank orange squash and water - nothing else my Mum was waiting for many years expecting me to start drinking "grown up drinks" but it never happened so she started persuading me to try things like tea and coffee different ways I would rink tea but only with about 5 sugars but wasn;t really bothered I couldn;t stand coffee Then one year, when I was about 16, we went on holiday to a very posh hotel in Scotland the sort where there is filter coffee made available after dinner in the lounge area - with cream as well so my Mum launched a project to try me with different amounts of milk and cream and sugar until she found a way of getting me to drink coffee after a few days we were up to about half cream and half coffee with 3 sugars!!!! and I still didn;t like it Then I noticed that her coffee hd no milk at all - so I tried it like that and discovered that it was the milk/cream in the coffee that was the problem I think there is some sort of reaction between them rather than a direct mixing anyway - since then I have drunk coffee - but always black as a side note At the time I took 2 sugars then - when I was at University, I was rather behind with writing up some practicals (Chemistry degree) that had to be in by Monday and this was Saturday morning and I discovered that I had run out of sugar The shop on campus was closed on Saturdays and I didn;t have time to get to the nearest town to get more by the Monday I no longer took sugar in coffee There - story finished
  3. That is technically correct However I find that it is always best to be clear that I want it black Even so I still normally either get asked if I want milk with it or find there is a small milk jug on my tray On occaision I have had to stop someone actually putting milk in in spite of me specifying black and - yes - UI have sent it back a few times because there is milk in it when it arrives so - tautology - yes - necessary - also yes
  4. No - just reindeer or to add humour I could have said no - just raindeer to which one of the Usual Suspects would then reply with "was there darling" but I won't do that
  5. Personally - somewhere between 2 and 3 basically just enough to change the colour is fine - a little bit more is OK but those higher numbers are just hot milk! coffee must be black as the Gods intended - milk in coffee is the mark of [enter generalised insult here] Oh - and should be hot will drink more gentle tea black quite happily but your general tea is a bit too acidic without a drop of milk!
  6. I can confirm that is was seriously draughty in the car park at the top of Aviemore a few days ago (we were on a short holiday!)
  7. not exactly right for this thread but close enough
  8. I have a new pet a termite - I have called him Clint Very economic to keep because Clint Eats Wood!!! and as you have probably missed me while I was on holiday in Scotland I have also trained my dog to fetch me a glass of red wine on command it is a Bordeaux Collie
  9. Took me a while - never noticed the words were spelt the same!!!
  10. Happy Birthday!!! have one for me!!
  11. Might be useful!!
  12. Actually - for a short time - I used to work in a factory making steel but I got sacked after only a few weeks apparently I smelt badly
  13. "BUT IT IS FOR THE CHILDREN!!!!"
  14. My first inspection was at an all girl's school Every Department had to have a sex (probably gender really) equality policy because you are supposed to I was a department of one - for ICT teaching and IT support some departments paid loads of money to get pre-written policies but I did my own as every one I looked at needed more work to personalise it than writing it from scratch would take anyway - my gender equality policy read as follows "All girls in my class are treated equally in all ways, irrespective of gender." One line only The DH had the job of reviewing all the policies before the inspectors arrived - it was the days when you got nearly a year's notice I think he was loosing the will to live when reading some of them! My department was singled out for attention in the inspection as it didn;t even exists in the rpevious one - hence I had a dedicated inspector he said he loved the gender policy! anyway - end story I know oyu like them
  15. Welcome everyone new Welcome back to whoever you turn out to have been!
  16. A lot of stuff on this thread is getting irrational
  17. I vaguely remember playing Pong with my friends on their telly - not often though My first game that I really remember was Scramble64 on my first Commodore 64 had a weird system to stop you copying it = even for a backup Stuff that! I found out that it was written in basic and found the code that did the anti copying check and changed it so I could create copies Never gave/lent it to anyone else but it did save me when the original tape (of course it was a tape!!!) broke - but my backups were fine much later on I played GunShip2000 on an Amiga - love the Amiga but I eventually had to give up on it and play GprixEGA on my PC supplied by work so I could dial in out of hours I also remember having to give up on Wolfenstein after a while because I started getting headaches and feeling dizzy all the time Initially blamed it on decaf coffee - I had just switched to it - turned out to the game actually had trouble walking around the office without tripping over things until I banned myself from playing to over lunch!! ANyway - many years ago!!!
  18. Never really celebrate Paddy's day (as it is known round here) basically because it is Mrs mikeprice's birthday so that takes priority we did go out for a meal in our favourite pub and they had a band on basically it turns out that to be an Irish band for Paddy's night you wear something green, one of you wears a green felt top hat like thing and then you lob "Irish Rover" into a set of English folk and traditional songs Still - great meal and we had a good time funny thing though - me ordered a taxi to get home - got the call to say it was outside and got outside just in time to see it drive off with some other people we checked with another taxi outside just in case he was ours - wrong signs on the side but Brother-in-laws does 2 firms and I can;t believe he gets the right stickers all teh time it wasn;t but the 2 people who had booked it asked us where we were going we gave a general area and it turns out they were going taht way as well got nearer and we mention the estate - they were going to the same estate got eve nearer and turns out they were going to the same road they live about 4 doors up from us but didn't recognise me without the cycle helmet and hi vis jacket weird coincidence!! (note - they live 4 doors up but there is a side road causing a sort of division in the area so we only tend to know the people in 'our end' of the close!)
  19. Was there a phone number???? (asking for a friend!!!!!)
  20. Must stop looking at this site in the mornings - makes my brain hurt!!
  21. Is 2 hours extra notice worth having?? I would have thought that if you are not already all set up then you would need several days or weeks rather than a few hours I do remember my first experience of an inspection. I was warned about it at my job interview in May/June - and it was scheduled for just before the next Easter!!! The Head was a Drama teacher (and a Nun!!!) and basically set up a full on Drama event for a week for the benefit of the inspectors Not sure how much they were fooled - the inspection went well but I think the school deserved the rating anyway but that much notice was just plain silly!
  22. Considering the most common sources of dna are from 'bodily fluids' then I find this a bit worrying or am I watching too many crime programmes???
  23. As we now have SKy - and hence Sky Cinema which includes Paramount or something - we appear to have Top Gun - Maverick Mrs mikeprice is not in the least bit interested in it and would probably want the volume turned down - so I watched it on the laptop last night while she was watching 'something else' WOW - factually, and tactically quite a few holes you could drive a bus through but if you were going to make a sequel to Top Gun then that was the sequel to make excellent job - especially at high volume - good job I have decent earphones!
  24. Anyone looking to save a bit on erergy cost - there is another winter saving electricty 'event' tomorrow I think the government call them an energy flexibility thingy running between 6 and 7 tomorrow register with your energy people - if they do not do it then Hugo do through their smart meter app - but take a cut - I think USwitch do something similar but don;t take a cut = but check it out as I am not certain
