  1. Merry Christmas to everyone Hope you all have a good one
  2. Well that was a shock Mrs mikeprice and I never thought THAT could happen when it was announced never mentioned it to each other at all no no no
  3. To be fair it does kinda say that that is exactly what you should do not quite specifically - but damn close!!!
  4. Hobnobs are just better in every way clearly not the chocolate ones - dunking chocolate biscuits is the mark of the devil!!! (although I did go to University with a bloke who dunked Mars bars in his tea when we went for a tea break - and he has been a vicar for many years In fact several people I went to university with moved onto be vicars in spite of the uni not doing god stuff wonder if that says anything about me??? (e.g. me telling a story and them thinking "Please God make him shut up" - before someone else says so!!!)
  5. We were discussing this yesterday We obeyed instruction from MArtin Lewis and turned down the circulation temperature on the central heating but we also scrapped the room thermostat connected to the boiler and got a different one as a result of this - probably just the room stat - we have been able to drop the target temperature of the lounge by at leat 1.5 degrees - as the whole system now works better and keeps the tempetature far more stable with the old stat and the higher radiator temperature we were forever changing the setting on the room stat as it had got too cold or too hot no idea if it is actually saving much money but the room is far more pleasant to be in now that it stays at a constant temperature (and no - it is not a 'smart' thingy or connected to my phone or Alexa or whatever!!!)
  6. Hot spicy wine maybe one then back to proper red wine but only if not driving - as I will be so basically none until we get home and I start cooking dinner - after which anything goes and how it all gets on the table is anyone's guess!!!
  7. I have no idea why anyone would make those signs just WHY??? who could think (!!!) they make sense
  8. Yes - but watt meter should I use???? (OK should be which - or witch - but the 'joke' dosesn;t work then) EDIT - actually anyone know of one that connects to a computer (or some kind) and shows the usage over time in some way?? Tested power usage once by connecting a watt meter and having a webcam pointed at it - then going forward x minutes and typing the readings into Excel but there has to be an easier way than that!
  9. No - silly person it would need 4 schemes one for each shed and one for the house I don;t actually LIVE in a shed you know!!! On another note - our usage today will be massive Had some workmen round this morning to put flooring in the loft ( NO IT IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE EXTRA SHED!!!!) Unfortunately they knocked a copper pipe that was sort of floating on top of the insulation - and note properly secured anywhere at which point a plastic connector came apart - thus revealing the fact that the pipe was full of water and connected to the mains Fun ensued - especially when I discovered that, at some point, thes stop cock has jammed shut!! anyway - - after it has all been sorted out by a combination of luck and brute force - followed by some proper plumbers fixing it properly - we ended up with a loft over a lot of wet plasterboard forming the upstairs ceiling - and a lot of wet insulation so we have had the loft hatch open most of the day, the radiators all on full and a fan heater in the loft The Good News is that when we pay out next energy bill then EDF will be able to afford to build that new Nuclear Power station the government wants!!!! If there is an energy saving day this time next week we should be quids in!!!
  10. Funny - I am registered with 2 schemes and neither of them have told me about it yet I will keep an eye on my emails tomorrow
  11. Sorry I'm late noticing this - I've been outside and its Friesian out there
  12. Reminds me of a group of us in a car when we were about 18 or 19 an old battered MG passed us and pulled in front - no surprise as we were in Taffy Jenkin's fiat with 5 teenage boys in it ! Anyway as we went along the rear quarter of the MG was being well illuminated by showers of sparks coming from the exhaust which seemed to be attached by string One of us wonder what the metal box thingy was that most of the sparks were surrounding We realised that it was the FUEL TANK and if it was in the same condition as the rest of the car this seemed a little ill advised My a major effort Taffy managed to accelerate his Fiat past the MG and we all waved like mad for them to pull over when they did John - who was the most clean cut and sensible looking - went over and explained the problem - a couple of us went over to help and a short pull disconnected the exhaust in a shower of dust and everyone went on their way I still remember watching the MG driving along with sparks surrounding the rusty fuel tank!!!
  13. Just got an email from Hugo saying tha there is one of the Windtter cashback thingies TODAY for using less - I think - electric No mention of gas Oh and it is only between 5 and 6 pm Anyway - though people should know however it is annoying because I have been ill for the last few days -(I goda dold) so not much cooking has been done for that time AND grand-daughter is coming round for a 'sleepover' (AKA spending a day away from brothers!) so potential for lowering energy is minimal! Also - batteries for solar panale system have not been working properly for the last few days - which stops us 'cheating'
  14. Got hold of some knock off Mr Kipling mince pies yesterday The are exceedingly good fakes
  15. Ahh makes sense now not that I'm going to make it but at least I know who - sorry what - one is
  16. Does raise the question of what - or who - is a chalupa also reminds me of us looking after grandkid number 1 when she was still a toddle and giving her some proper shepherds pie and a spoon naked and with a big sheet of plastic under her high chair Ye Gods she had a good time eating her dinner (Mum and Dad were not amused - now they are on their 3rd kid they would be a lot more relaxed on the basis of "He ate something - that'll do") but I think the above advert may be fro something different
  17. Lovely thread - well worth the necro bump!!
  18. For information I have registered with 2 companies - Loop Energy and Hugo They both use apps to access their systems - which access the smart meter database so you can analyse you energy usage more. and to the point - both companies have contacted me with schemes where they will get hold of the 'government' (or whoever) subsidy for people who reduce their energy usage in the critical time period when one of decided on I have heard nothing from EDF so I can;t go through my energy supplier (no surprise) I though people ought to know about this possibility as it is energy supplier independant but look at the T&Cs!!!!
  19. You have to find their funny bone
  20. Just seem this genuine comment Ramses II lived to the age of 91 or 92 and based on the evidence from his mummy he died from a tooth infection comment after it Wait. His mom reported his cause of death? So she outlived him, then?! How old was she?????
  21. Sometimes those are SO bad that I think they have to be done deliberately and no it wasn;t me - no semi-colons!!!!
  22. Special one day only offers from my Dentist today Great saving on a load of treatments Apparently it is Plaque Friday
  23. Is it legal to do some DIY on a gas boiler?? Or is there a point where you are allowed to 'fiddle' but you can;t go further obviously if you fiddle with the actual gas system then it is not allowed unless you are Gas Safe registered but what about other stuff??
  24. OK OK OK I presume no-one on here will answer this - or at least no truthfully! but I found this on Huffington Post today https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/weak-password-open-to-hackers_uk_637e2975e4b006c42d3a09c7 Amazing that people are still using these sort of passwords in this day and age or maybe not knowing 'some people' a few things occur to me a) how did they find out - did they just ask people?? b) a big company near where I used to work in the 1980s brought in a firm of security consultants - the IT department refused to co-operate Instead of moaning to senior managers the firm issued a challenge If we can log in as 50% of you by tomorrow morning then you co-operate - if not we will go home by the next morning they had logged in as 80% of the IT staff just by looking around people's desks for family names and trying Liverpool and - for some reason - Everton c) Liverpool appears 4th on the list - Man U appears - er - nowhere - similar to Everton and that other club from the wrong end of the East Lancs road d) I presume that these were personal passwords - I sort of hope no businesses (etc) allow things like this!!
