Wife has just seen something that says the Treasury is looking at a public sector pay freeze to help pay for the costs of the virus response So when you go out and clap on Thursday - clap extra hard 'cos that'll make all the public sector people feel SO much better (I be adding an extra clap for all of you - I'm sure you will appreciate it more than a pay rise) oh - and a word keeps coming into my mind - can't think what it is begins with A - followed by a U something to do with saving money anyone any ideas what it is??????

I think it is great that Boots are doing all these tests for the NHS and care homes and everyone else for free I mean - if they are asking for volunteers to do the tests then clearly they are not charging for the tests Very good of them - nice to see big businesses all pulling together with the rest of us Warning - post may include sarcasm in places

I started to wonder if this was real when I started reading it - I know it is all ridiculous but I honestly would not be surprised if some schools have considered some parts of it OK maybe not the helicopter parts probably

So - apparently it will soon be time to introduce compulsory quarantine for travellers arriving in the UK unless they come from Eire or France and on the new today (and mentioned previously) the EU countries are starting to relax the borders and go back to free movement so imagine someone coming to e.g. Liverpool for a business meeting - from e.g. Berlin If they come from Berlin direct to Liverpool then they have to quarantine for 14 days before having their meeting if however they fly to Paris then to Liverpool then they can go directly to their meeting then fly direct back to Berlin I'm not sure that all this has been thought through properly

I went on a different bike ride yesterday - there is a pub there on the banks of the Mersey - very nice place and normally crowded on a nice day clearly it is currently closed but the owners still live there It is now totally fenced off by security fences with a notice on it saying this is because of the abuse they have been getting from people crowding onto the beer garden - and the same people using the beer garden as a toilet because the pub is closed and all this was before any mention of a relaxation of the lockdown!!

Which is probably why they waited to announce this until the weather became colder and windier On my daily bike rides I have noticed FAR less people out walking and cycling If the good weather had continued the roads from Merseyside to the Lake District and Wales would have been far busier

Especially as there seems to be some confusion - some people being deliberately confused and some just confused and a lot of people seem to just be reading that the lockdown has been relaxed and you can drive to places so - weee - off we go A caravan place in Rhyl (near where I used to work) has been complaining that they have received a 'lot' of calls about booking for holidays and from caravan owners wanting to come and stay for a week or more apparently they get quite upset/aggressive when it is explained that the rules are different in Wales - and you are not allowed to go away for a week's holiday ANYWAY! I don't think the people making decisions know how 'the people' think when they are making statements which results in people getting the wrong end of several sticks

Well I was alive in 1985 - but I was working all day programming on computer terminals (yup terminals - not these new fangled PC thingies) so when I got home - often at silly times - spending more time on a computer was not a priority - especially as work had an annoying habit of ringing me up most evenings (which - by the way - made me a fortune - wonder what I spent it all on???) so - no - I didn't play the 1985 Discworld game

So 'Stay Alert' means 'Stay at home" wonderful thing the English language Was watching the Churchill movie last night they mentioned that he 'mobilised the English language and sent it into battle' no comment

I heard on the telly this morning that the app doesn't work on Huawei phones - or on 'older' version of Android or older iphones I have noticed that most of the phones I have owned cannot be updated excpet for occaisional security patches - if I try to get hold of app for my previous phone most them won't run on it But - it can't be updated - apparently because Samaung make them that way Which seems like a possible gaping hole in the logic if anyone owning a phone by 2 major manufacturers cannot use the app if their phone if more than a few years old especially as they need coverage of over 70% Maybe they don't realise that a lot of people can't afford - or don;t want - to get a new shiny iphone every year or so p.s. is there actually any way to update an old Samsung??

Also - looking at the factories around here - and everywhere else that I live - some people get to work by car - and park in the factory car park. But other people - and quite a lot of them - use the bus. Which is why the roads that pass the factories always have a good bus service. But now people are supposed to avoid busses and so presumably they will drive - but the car parks are probably not big enough - and anyway adding loads of cars (OK non electric cars for 'you-know-who') will add to the polution when it would be nice to try to keep some of the clean air that has suddenly appeard It is almost as if the government has no idea what it is like to be the sort of person who has to get the bus to get to work or it that just me

They have probably slipped into L-space wait until the zoos open again and ask in the primate section DON'T SAY THE M WORD!!!!!

A significant point is what happens if you have kids S0 - kids not at school, child care places still closed - but your employer says they are open and you should be coming into work what rights do you have if you say you can't go to work?? and what rights do you have if you go back to work but the employer doesn't seem to have implemented the 2m rule as well as they might e.g. everyone eats in the same canteen, everyone has to clock on at the same time and all that If there a way of reporting them?? and if you are an employer - where do you find the guidelines SURELY all this should have been referenced in the broadcast yesterday? Still - nice to see that we can now go to North Wales for a nice walk and laugh at the poor Welsh still having to stay at home or wasn't that what he meant???

Thanks for that We have only been together for about 5ish years so I can keep the kettle 'joke' going for about another 25 years plus I shall relay you data to Mrs Mikeprice I'm sure she will be thrilled - she SO enjoys that 'joke'

Atricles on the newspaper web site sthis morning suggest that the government is keeping options open to use the wonderful, great NHS app or give up and use the Google/Apple versions So - trust the NHS with an IT project and its associated data or trust Google with the data hmmmm

If you are starting I would suggest that you start with something that doesn't go out of date - so PowerShell is good and quite impressive The problem with e.g. Server 2016 if that it goes out of date and also you might end up applying for a job that uses an older version - schools being schools and all that Networking is also always a good one as it doesn't really change all that much

If you are going for chairs with wheels or skids them you need carpet then can stand the wear - otherwise you will have rips and trip hazards all over the place in a year! WHen I was teaching I always found that it helped to have an area for the kids to write and sit at away from the actual computer. Ideally this would have normal chairs - then proper swivel and adjustable kid-proof chairs for the computers This also allows for kids to be given a normal chair if they find it impossible to behave on a swivel chair - the problem being that they are totally different heights a lot of the time!!

On my bike ride today I came back through an area with a lot of factories Seems like a lot more have cars parcked out side them - and more lorries are buzzing around the whole area Looks like some factories/warehouses and other such places are starting up again

Well - OK - I can see the point in that but where do we get the masks from - without ram raiding the nearest A&E??
