Info today about the genetic makeup of the virus suggests that the UK infections arrived from Europe not China (mostly) It also says that there is no 'patient zero' and it arrived from lots of places over a period of time same for the USA - although that doesn't suit the authorised message so I doubt it will be shouted about much from certain quarters

Hi all Some years ago - before I stopped working - I tried to get Veyon working at my school and failed Basically I got it installed and everything - after removing ITalc - but it wouldn't work properly At the moment my wife is having to 'shield' so we have to sit on separate sofas in the lounge (we have 2 sofas - it's like sheds - everyone needs 2!) She often makes comments based on what she can see on her laptop - which is annoying as I can;t see her screen SO I though I would set up Veyon so that a) I can see her screen when she is talking about it b) when she gets a problem I can remote control her laptop and see what she happening c) I can get rid of an annoyance at having to leave my old school without getting the thing working CLEARLY I will not use it to reboot her computer or do the 'ghost mouse' thing just to annoy her no no not at all Anyway I have it all set up between my desktop and my laptop as a test but it won't work. The Master says it is trying to connect (connecting) The slave says that it has received a connection But the screen on the Master remains blank I have looked at the logs on the Master - and have set them to maximum logging (except debug) and it says [ERR] VariantArrayMessage: invalid message size 603998464 from GitHub it looks like VariantArrayMessgae is the module reporting the error - anyone any clue as to what I can do to get this working?? Dunno if I have said this before but so far I am managing to do a bike ride (OK ebike) every day unless it have been raining - which is pretty much every day at the moment normally between 16 and 22 miles result so far is that the 2 hills on the route used to be a strain - serious burning in my legas even though they are steep and short now I just shoot up them with no trouble long hill leading up to a local village also used to be a strain - breathing hard and needing to shift down gear by the time I got to the village - now I am still breathing heavily but stay in 4th (unless there is a headwind) and the long flat bits I can now do mostly over the motor cutoff speed (15.5. mph) so I seem to be getting fitter no idea if I have lost any weight - but actually I don't care anyway - if I get this virus then the better I can breath the better - considering I have asthma and all and I have always found breathing to be a handy trick - never realised how useful until I got asthma!!

Hmm - gave up on the wheel of time ages ago - can';t remember why - think I was getting fed up with them maybe I should have kept going

There was an article yesterday saying that there is 'some evidence' that they were having problems in Wuhan as early as August the evidence is circumstantial - at best - but lets think If it starts in Wuhan in August but it not identified Then they realise they have a problem - but the Chinese regime is not a great place for local authorities to admit a problem to the Central authorities - so they keep quiet and try to deal with - what they see as - a minor increase in local pneumonia then it gets to September/October - so Chinese students go back to college/university - many of which as in the West - big cities like London, New York, Liverpool, etc etc etc Now - theses people are young and fairly fit and active as they are mostly students - a group that often shows few, if any symptoms - and recovers with no need for hospitals So - in the West we see no problem - in spite of the virus starting to circulate around the whole student population of Europe, USA, Canada etc - but still in this group that shows few symptoms then it gets to Christmas and all the local students head home - carrying the virus with them First signs in the UK and other European countries seem to have started in January/February - just when it would be expected to start being seen in old people who have been infected by younger students home for Christmas OK - I'm heading off in the direction of Flat Earth levels of evidence Clearly not any actual reason to blame China - it does seem that the Central people reported a problem as soon as it was clear there was something weird happening - although this may change but it would explain why Europe (especially) seemed to explode in certain areas when the reasons have seemed a bit fuzzy all this is possibly rubbish and is based on my (and my wife's) expert knowledge of public health and Virus spreading concepts - which is naff all - and stretching tiny bits of evidence to their limit and beyond

Local council here has decided that it is no longer recommended that schools open on Monday - due to the local R number which is over 1 they announced this yesterday (Friday) afternoon wonder how my old school is going to cope with this as the parents have a very bad record with keeping the school up to date with their phone number - which change quite frequently for unknown reasons (cough cough dodgysimcard coug cough)

nything will do as a face covering - I am using my old scout neck thingy it has been used as a sling several times and now exists as a face covering if that wears out my wife has a load of scarfs that I can use - but I may avoid the pink frilly ones! Oh - and I wash it after it has been used

Leaving aside any political point - for amphibious reasons - there has been incidents over time of people trying to drink alcohol based hand gels - 'cos its got alcohol in it and therefore it is like booze - clearly because people can be dumb so it is worth having on the label!

I like to have a 'proper' road map when I'm somewhere I don't know very well. I find that if I just use the Sat Nav to take me everywhere then I end up with no clue of where I am most of the time - and no feel for the layout of the local area I prefer to have a reasonable clue about where the towns lie and which direction I am travelling in. However, I do normally use the Sat Nav to actually get there and, of course, I frequently override the thing as I know better that it does (wife may have a different opinion!)

It is nice that a lot of cyclists nod and smile to each other as they pass it makes you feel nice - unlike driving where you are isolated in your steel box and interact with no-one

Asking because as far as I am aware a lot of the anti-bac things that people are using are actually no use against viruses - they work fine as soap but some of the gels are a waste of time got this from wife's son who works in the local hospital - in theatres - so he should know

Taking one of the above points This may be a good time to start enforcing a ticketing system if you work in a school where people - or 'some' people - currently refuses to use one You can't really have everyone just wandering into your office and if you have a phone, email and a decent ticketing system then no-one should ever be knocking on your door in this climate!

My wife's son went for a drive with his wife and our grandkids as he needed to check his eyesight before work in the local hospital tomorrow. As he was feeling dodgy he stopped off at our house - luckily we had loads of burgers, buns, sausages, rolls and ketchup . After a couple of hours he had recovered enoughto be back in theatres/ITU tomorrow - but to check he drove the family back home Lucky we were just in the right place when his eyesight went wobbly - foresight from me when I bought this house 5 years ago N.B - first time we have seen them for 2 months - wife has to shield but whatever - I'll just put 'death by grandkids' on the death certificate - or death by smiling and hugs p.s. - especially to 'anyone who has new grandkids' you need to keep in practise - they are damn exhausting if you don;t keep up to speed at the worst possible time also - you probably need to be young note to anyone with no - or only one - kids if you have several kids - the number of grand-kids tend to increase exponentially plan ahead - only children are the way to go!!!

A journalist from the Sunday Express asks how will people know they are getting a genuine call from a contact tracer, not a scammer. Dowden says "we've done a lot of work leading up to this". Van-Tam says it has been "really carefully considered" by the test and trace system, but says he doesn't have the details. He adds it would become apparent quite quickly that it was a professional contact tracer talking, saying: "I don't think people are going to fall for this."
