You know those video interviews on telly and similar stuff from politicians and - you know they all seem to try to have an impressive bookcase in the background?? well - is it just me that would get hold of some book covers off the WWW ( Possibly by 'nautical means' to quote 'someone on edugeek') print them off at an appropriate size and wrap normal books (possibly from a charity shop) in the printed cover and - make the book covers slightly dodgy (Karma Sutra - or Lady's Chatterley's lovercome to mind (haven't bothered checking - other spelling may be available)))- or make them spell out something 'interesting' because - to be fair - any journalist worth their salt - has been enhancing and enlarging those bookcase looking for 'the next front page' or is that just me - 'cos I would

Hi all I have been looking for some intelligent and helpfull people that may be able to help me with something but I couldn't find any so I thought I would ask you lot (that was a joke - just so you know!) My old pension fund (that I am receiving as I am old) has sent a brochure saying that they have taken a load of their money and used it to buy an insurance policy that is guaranteed to pay out every month this is apparently called a buy-in - and makes the pension fund less reliant on the company owners - hence more secure They have also said that their ultimate target is a 'buy-out' - which means buying into enough insurance policies to totally cover the whole pension commitments until all the pensioners have kicked the bucket - including their spouses At that point the pension fund would have no further function and would cease to exists as each pensioner ( and future pensioner) would have their own personal annuity with these companies which is guaranteed to cover the pension that they are entitled to for the rest of their lives Hence no further reliance on what remains of the company and better security sounds good probably Anyway - I have been looking around for proper information about all this and I have found loads of stuff from companies that can offer these policies to pension companies - and info from pension people who are looking to go this way but nothing from the point of view of the poor bu***r who needs to live of this money for the next x years I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has looked into this and found proper advise about whether this is as good as I am being told not that I have any choice - but it would be nice to know whether I being given a lifejacket or a rock TIA Mike

I have been wearing a mask in shops for a while - one of those paper disposable ones But we have just got some re-useable fabric ones - so I wore it when I was showing people round my M.i.L's house the other day I dislike wearing any of them - a lot - but I do it anyway also - the fabric one was very difficult to wear when talking to people - I felt VERY short of breath But the other ones are OK - I do have to breath harder but not by much - and yes - I do have asthma I did find that the fabric mask was better after a couple of puffs (stop sniggering) of Ventalin anyone else find anything like this p.s. I am not going to stop using the mask and use this as an excuse - just to be clear!

Finally got round to watching Das Boot Not sure - great film in many ways very annoying in other ways like a U-boat surfacing in a hostile area and loads of people going up to the bridge (?? - if s that the right word on a sub?) and all looking in one direction at the same time no-one thought to immediately scan the whole horizon and loads more people on the bridge than needed - with no-one specifically there on lookout

A few years ago (when I was officially employed as a teacher in spite of mostly doing IT Tech stuff - but on a lower salary band) I suggested that any pay rise should consider TAs etc before teachers This caused a sharp intake of breath from several teachers - and some glares - until their brains kicked in and most sort of nodded and agreed *** in my opinion TAs are really badly treated and paid in a lot of school compared to the work they do - I have seen some that are treated as teachers and expected to do pretty much the same work as a teacher - including setting lessons, delivering lessons and marking the work - and are expected to be responsible and professional - then get paid a fraction of a teacher's salary Obviously non classroom staff (like IT Techs are in the same boat - but some schools really seem to take the whatsit *** note the phrasing - 'most' not 'all' - there were some teachers who knew themselves to be special for those missing my lengthy and interesting anecdotes - on this subject they get me tooo annoyed so I'm not doing any!
