Microsoft Edge Downloads - Open File suddenly not working
nikaso replied to nikaso's topic in Windows 11
We can fix it by using setting the GPO to a mapped drive as stated above but for most of our users that's not possible so we have told staff and students to just navigate to the downloads folder using File Explorer as a workaround and await the fix from Google. -
Today we started getting reports of the 'Open File' link in the Downloads pop-out of Microsoft Edge not working, sure enough everyone is getting the attached error. Edge seems to be introducing \\?\ into the path and Windows doesn't like it, for example, the correct path to the file might be \\myschool.local\filestorage\staff\joe.bloggs\Downloads\SchoolCalendar.pdf . This works fine if typed directly into File Explorer but when you use the Open file link in the Downloads window on Edge it appends \\?\ to the beginning so you get "Windows cannot find \\?\\\myschool.local\filestorage\staff\joe.bloggs\Downloads\SchoolCalendar.pdf" Chrome works fine still, just seems to be Edge. Affects all staff and students alike and a reset of Edge doesn't do anything. I also tried manually specifying the Download location in a GPO but Edge still appends the extra \\?\ I'm wearing about three hats at the moment so if anyone has any ideas it might save me tearing what hair I have left out!

Came looking for this thread, can confirm CPOMs support is still utter pants. A week to reply to a case where we had no users listed in the admin centre so I couldn't assign DSL permissions to relevant staff. Support reply eventually came through and was a copy paste of 'How to change staff roles in CPOMs' , thankfully the users had reappeared in the admin centre by that point so I could do it myself.

Fair enough, might have to put my big boy pants on and have a proper look!

My last experience with Moodle is what you saved on cost was more than made up for by the setup and maintenance of it going forward, admittedly this was some years ago, is it any better?

We currently run an educational scheme which is made up of three different awards of escalating levels of difficulty. For argument's sake, this is the 'School Name Diploma' and has three awards as part of it, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. To achieve each level, there are about 30 Microsoft Teams assignments to complete. We are then required to report on this to SLT, covering things such as completion rate for different forms with variables such as SEN/PP status, etc. At present, I've got all the forms in Years 7 to 9 set up as individual Microsoft Teams. What was meant to happen is that there is a master list of assignments and an "insert random admin person here" was meant to assign these tasks to each form team. Unfortunately, over the 2-plus years we've run this, there have been cockups aplenty with duplicate assignment names, kids having the wrong email addresses and a host of other problems. This all means when we've tried to use MS Access and PowerBI to report on the various aspects SLT wants, it is a complete mess. I'm trying to convey to SLT that what they are asking for is effectively an LMS but not wanting to pay anything for it either in terms of software licensing or staff resourcing. Does anyone have any recommendations for an LMS that would fulfil the following criteria? Can import assignments from Microsoft Teams Can import users/teams from Microsoft Teams Can produce reports that can be exported to excel (I would assume this is pretty standard) Uses Microsoft SSO Any tips gratefully received. I've spent the entire day today trying to unpick the exports from Teams and sanitise them into something usable in Power BI!

Helpdesk recommendations to replace Jira Service Management?
nikaso replied to Shaun_Dark_Lord's topic in Cloud Services
I was about to suggest Plumsail helpdesk if you needed something basic and cheap but I think it's only for M365 -
Problem resolved, got in contact with him and it's just an out-of-office that hadn't been updated

Luckily, we aren't actually a customer at present, seeking to potentially be one as it happens! I'll give the other contact method a shot though.

I've been trying to get in touch with David Pott at School Analytics but had an auto-reply saying he was on leave until the 5th of March. There doesn't seem to be any new blog posts since January. Does anyone know if David / School Analytics are still around?

Just wanted to chip in on this as it has been very useful for me, I wanted to put a few things down I had to do to get this to work. 1) Make sure you are on Powershell 7.2 or greater, I used version 7.4 which can be found here 2) Import the PnP Powershell module - Import-Module PnP.PowerShell 3) As of September 9th 2024 you have to register your own Entra ID Application to use with PnP Powershell, this means in Part 1 of the script will throw an error. This is easy enough to fix and a very helpful guide can be found here 4) You will need to change to 5)Remember to change the variables at the beginning of the script to your own paths etc! 6)Lastly, the csv needs column headers of "name" and "EmailAddress", it should look something like this Here's the redacted version of my Part 1 script for reference: #1 $siteurl = "https://bilbobaggins.sharepoint.com/sites/KS5IndependentTestTeam" #2 $listname = "Shared Documents/General" #3 $access = "full control" #4 $Folders = Import-Csv "E:\SubFoldersPermtest.csv" #6 $FullPath = "/sites/KS5IndependentTestTeam/Shared Documents/General" #7 $Staff = "[email protected]" #----------START OF SCRIPT DO NOT MODIFY----------# Connect-PnPOnline -Url bilbobaggins.sharepoint.com/sites/KS5IndependentTestTeam -Interactive -ClientId xxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx #–Credentials (Get-Credential) foreach ( $entry in $Folders ) { $foldername = $entry.name $emailaddress = $entry.EmailAddress #Create Folder Add-PnPFolder -Name $foldername -Folder $listname #get folder properites from list $listItem = Get-PnPListItem -List $listname -FolderServerRelativeUrl $FullPath -Query "$($foldername)" Write-Host "setting folder up for $foldername" #set permissions on the folder Set-PnPListItemPermission -List $listname -Identity $listItem -User $emailaddress -AddRole $access -ClearExisting Set-PnPListItemPermission -List $listname -Identity $listItem -User $Staff -AddRole $access } #----------END OF SCRIPT DO NOT MODIFY----------# Thanks to @2097 for creating and posting the script!

Copied from my ANME post for visibility but I wanted to recommend a particular RMM tool I've been using. Just wanted to share my experience of using Action1, if you are looking for a stunningly easy-to-use RMM tool I can highly recommend this. Long story short, when I started as a Network Manager the school employed 2 ICT techs, 1 roaming ICT tech and an AV tech. This dwindled through years of budget cuts and redundancies, the IT team now reduced to just me and one tech. I started looking for an RMM tool about 8 months ago as we were struggling to manage all the various responsibilities that get piled on IT nowadays, we eventually started an extended trial of Action1. MSI client, easy to deploy and you instantly get a list of vulnerabilities and one click remediations for these vulnerabilities. They are a relatively new player but are very keen to work with schools and grow and I can highly recommend them. Honestly the best money I've spent on an IT product in years. If you want to know more you can check out the website above or contact their UK chap Dru Vadgama ([email protected]) who is very helpful.

Hi all, We have Teams groups for each registration form and each form gets issued about a 100 assignments. These assignments are tied to one of three awards, complete a certain number of assignments for that award and you are awarded it. My problem is for reporting on award completion percentages and on whether individual students have done enough to gain an award. The grades section in each Team allows you to download a spreadsheet of all the assignments to date that the students in that form have been issued along with whether they have completed them (by being given a 100 points for a completed assignment) The problem is each student has a row for every task so you have a spreadsheet with 3000 rows that isn't particularly easy to interpret! This is some example data of what it currently looks like: Ideally I would like a spreadsheet where every student has a single row and each assignment a single column, the intersecting cells would have the value 100 in them if a student had achieved that award. This would be much easier to interpret and produce percentage completion stats from. I can't think of an easy way to do this with a formula but can't help but feel it must be doable! Here is the file itself if you want to have a play ExcelProblem.xlsx Any help or advice gratefully recieved!!
