BTW - we knew there had been sea mammals in the vicinity because we were looking at the Whale Watch app - you can report any sightings and they get put on a map when verified so if you are in a possible sighting area then you can check out what has been see in the last few days

On another forum (about bikes - but we wander off topic !!!) there is a thread about plot holes and faults in films someone posted this "Harry Potter. Not only did a 105e Anglia fly, but it started first go and was not rusty. All these are significant inaccuracies."

Have you had an x-ray to check for breaks?? does sound quite bad At least you didn;t break your arm - which I did a few months ago - by putting your arm down to save yourself anyway - get better soon

two from a few weeks ago when we were on a cruise round Mull in a small boat Sea eagles - they got the boat as close in as they could but they were still a bit far away and against a brightish sky - so not great for photos - and I could have done with a bigger lens! There were reports of wales around - but they had moved on when we were in that area - did see some dolphins (at a distance) and some porpoises and some goats and ducks and cows and sheep and stuff

The twitter username reminds me of someone I used to work with - he was one of the main on-call people that got rung up by the mainframe operators overnight he was also quite short and did like explaining things to pleople His nickname in Operations was "Rifleman" - which he was quite pleased with - although rather puzzled good job no-one told him it was because he was a "small bore"

I need to remember this in the unlikely event that I can insert it into a conversation at some point in the future

Slightly off topic - but I have been clearing out some rubbish and in a box I found this Clearly it is obvious to everyone exactly what these are No?? well these are the first computer that I worked on - well, not counting a few bits on ICL/IBM thnigies while at University They are Honeywell L6 computers that would have been running the GCOS6 MOD400 operating system - although some would also have been running the MOD200 system which was faster but ran in 8 bit mode so was rather limited They ran the whole Customer Service Centre system - although that term was not used at the time The photo was taken during the installation of the brand new Telephone Ordering system where you could ring up to place an order ratehr than having to fill in a form and post it We were the second organisation to make this possible The disk drives - the box things about the size of a large washing machine (plus a bit) - had a massive 256MByte capacity and came in those blue cases on top of the drives - they went wrong a lot - almost as much as the computers!!!! anyway - I doubt any are still running - the operating system sort of died 31 December 1999 at 23:59 - for obvious reasons - although I did try it post 2000 and it seemed to work. I was ordered not to continue testing as testing the systems we were actually going to use was thought to be more important Basically I loved these machines and their op. system - they went wrong in all sorts of interesting ways - unlike modern systems that are boringly reliable (and YES I do include WIndows!!) EDIT - yes - I know there is no picture - still trying to put it in - just won;t upload for $reasons

After the teaching practices at schools we all did a feedback session and the subject of IWBs came Our mentor thought it would be a good idea for us to learn some more about it - as the IT techers could be the "champions" for them in the school He couldn;t find a teacher in any local school who knew enough to come in and talk to us about them I ended up doing it!!! based on a hour or so of self learning while trying to do a PGCE and teach classes In 10 years of teaching in secondary school the only "course" I ever got for them was a session of about 30 minutes from the MFL department showing how wonderful they are But it was al based on "look at the flashy things I remember from the course I did" after the sessions I was in I did a short off-the-cuff bit about what do do when they won't work - complex stuff like making sure it is switched on - based on what the IT tech had been moaning about since MFL got them installed This was about 2012 - I had been using mine since I started teaching!!!!

Shooting and Drinking - what could go wrong OK OK OK - when I read it the shooting is simulated - so presumably no reall guns and bullets just made me wonder at first sight! Still - if it was advertised in certain parts of the USA............

First ones I saw were in 2003 - both teacher training placement school had then as the LEA had turned up with 2 per school One was being used as a doorstop in an IT room that had no windows or air con (!) the other wsa being used as a projection screen - never been plugged in I learned how to use them in my second school where it was also being used as a projection screen but was plugged in - I found the manual, updated the software and worked out how to use it Naturally the LEA had turned up with them as a gift then left expecting them to revolutionise teaching and learning by magic

Many years ago I started training to be a teacher (sorry!) and we couldn't afford to run the car at the time. Hence I had to use my old bike to get to teh college - pretty much all uphill The first few days it was all I could do to get the bike up to the high point using the low ratios and 1st or second gear after several weeks I noticed that I was going up to that point much faster and in 4th or 5th gear - I could even get there in the high ratios - so 6th gear so fitness does improve quite quickly with regular use Even on my ebike I can tell the difference if I have been using it most days for several weeks When I broke my arm I had an enforced layoff for about 6 weeks and after I got back on it I needed the motor assist set upa level to keep up the spped I normally used - previously I rode about half of it with the motor switched off!

Update I eventually tried ringing EDF on the number they gave me on WhatsApp didn;t take nearly as long to answer as I thought and I got through to someone who seemed to know what they were talking about and listened Anyway - he confirmed that they are recieving all the data with no problems in spite of the error message He described how the comms works in basic terms and it confirmed that it looks like the message refers to the mobile signal from the meter to the central system but as long as it gets through some of the time then it will work fine. Mine is set to communicate every 30 minutes - but it can be set to once a day so missing a few really doesn't matter as it basically just sends a date/time stamp and the meter readings So - it looks like the message is just a bit over worrying. I have also noticed that if I leave the message alone for several days I don;t get any more - but if I clear it then another one comes up within a few days just a carp system really!

I do wonder if the last big company I worked for are still running their credit card authorisations through the system I put together It ran on a PC running Dos it was Dos 5 until all the Year 2000 faffing about and I went mad and upgraded it to DOS 6.2 Last I heard it was still running - as well as the interface programs I wrote well after 2005/6 sort of time - apparently they were scared to change anything as there was no-one left who knew how it worked (note - there was - there were 2 member of our old team and I had left lots of documentation - I suspect they were just feigning ignorance as they were annoyed about being sold off to another company along with a support contract) anyway - who knows I can imagine bet the last school I worked in are still running software that came on a CD (!) which said "Compatible with Windows 95"

Why has someone gone into out Utility room (how posh are we eh!!!) and taken a photo of our washing machine????? bloomin' cheek must remember to take the meat of for dinner tomorrow - anyway - it makes a hell of a racket on spin!

Hello all I have tried looking elsewhere but got nowhere with this You lot know about stuff I'm hoping that you might have some idea what is happening Anyway - to the point On my SMart meter display unit (IHD) I occaisionally get a little red triangle If I go through the menus and go into "Alerts" then it says "Lost Network COntact has been lost with the network it this continues please contact you supplier" Now - I have checked and EDF are apparently getting my readings with no apparent problem Clearly there are 2 things communicating IHD to Meter and Meter to Central smart meter system It used to go direct to the supplier but I believ that with SMETS2 this changed to a central system - which is why it allows you to change supplier more easily without the meter "going dumb" Anyway - due to information from elsewhere - including Hugo, the smart meter data app on my phone - it seems that the Lost Network message is talking about the comms between the meter and the central system Anyway - recently this message has been coming up pretty much every day - if I clear it then it just comes up again I have contacted EDF (which is a right pain but there you are) and they said Guess what switch it off and on again!! which I did funnily enough it made no difference ANyway - is this happening to anyone else?? Anyone know why?? any ideas?? BTW - my smart meter is an old one - used to be SMETS1 and couldn't be changed until it could so now it is SMETS2 apparently Thanks
