Hi all I've just been trying to submit a request for the council about fly tipping came across the normal problem with the photo I took as evidence - the image file was too big I normally open it in GIMP and re-export it at reduced quality - but I have to guess at a percentage and then check it I was wondering what other people use and if there is a better (FREE!!!) thingy for reducing image file sizes?? I know I used to do this when I was teaching DIDA at GCSE level to get the kids projects down below the maximum limit - but I have no idea about the best thing currently available thought you lot might have better ideas Thanks

Seems like Whooping Cough is on the rise as well I've had that and measles hasn't done me any harm (other opinions are available!) NOTE - but they clearly can do - not trivialising them - they can be damn dangerous - but worth looking out for WHooping Cough if you see any kids that might have it not all parents are aware of these things as they are not a common as they used to be!

If the computers are off then they can;t do any updates etc Also - they have to be switched on - which takes longer than just logging in WHen I taught in Secondary - we had the computers on Wake-on-LAN so they could all be shutdown by either me or the IT Tech before we went home at night Then first thing in the morning we could start up one roonm at a time and check every one was working before lessons started Not perfect - but pretty good Before we had a system which would do the above the computer were often switched off - but it often caused problems in the first lessons they were used in mostly due to them being used by kids - in some way Once they just had to log in a lot of the problems went away There was a question about power usage - the reason they were all being switched off in the first place we put a power monitor on one of the PCs when it was shutdown but with wake-on-lan enabled - power usage was minimal

When I was teaching is a school in a very deprived area there were certainly some children that were a bit crispy not such putting them in a sandwich complies with safeguarding though???

You could probably use any old computer you have lying around you know - the "spare laptops" the teachers KNOW you have available although if it is on Windows 10 then support and security update might be a problem I was actually thinking about my old school - they had several Pis lying around with no apparent use for them - as did a museum I did some work for I did write a simple UDP comms thingy for them as well - it would be simple to lob a few lines from it into the github source - probably

Probably no what is wanted - but there is a Temper usb device costing only about £10 there is some stuff on github to get data from it - so could easily be modified to communicate with anything if someone wants to mess about in Python I did used to have one many years ago when I came back from having no voice (not even going to try to spell lary..........) and needed to check my teaching room temperature (about that of a sauna) to prove to Occy Health that it was causing the problem! It does need a USB extension cable to avoid picking up excess temperature from the machine it is plugged into works on a Pi as well if you have one lying around

Finally got round to finishing Boat Story full marks to the writers and director for the number of unknowns pretty much right up to the end including one interesting possiblity that they almost literally just said "nah - we just said that to confuse you" - almost breaking the 4th wall!!! Most mysteries sort fo collapse into a normal cop type show by the last episode with everyone following an obvious route to the end not this one Can't see a second series though!

I would start a table showing amount, expected date, actual amount and actual date make it so that you both sign it say that you need it as you are having trouble keeping track and don;t want to forget a payment and ask for extra - or whatever (which would be necessary with me anyway!!) don;t necessarily use it legally - but it does give a graphic reminder of where he is up to and make it more of cimmitment

My problem is that I have been told different things by a lot of people who should know e.g. Head Teachers - including one who had spent many years as a senior educational advisor to the LEA (don;t ask why he was employed as a Head - sort point!!!!) Several other LEA IT advisors said the same thing a lot of which I have found is not true - including license for software that I was using! I just got lost about which bots were rubbish and which bits were true BTW - for the software licenses I got that in writing (well email) - it was still unlicensed (as I found out later) but at least I was covered

There has always been mixed messages about this in my experience some people say that a school is licensed to play music for educational purposes some say if it is ina school then it is educational some say "BUT IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN" has anyone got a definitive description - and for videos as well - while we are at it!!

I had a hire car around the end of the 1990s I was travelling from North Wales (Bangor) to Sunderland for work I was driving quite normally along the A55 through North Wales and heading for the A55 - radio on as usual - heading for the M56 A mile or two onto the M56 the radio suddenly cut our and a female voice very clearly said "You are on the M56 Heading East" scared me to death!!! I had no clue that the car had any kind of nav system - no screen or obvious button - it just suddenly decided to talk to me!!

What is it like to be so young and naive???
