Decided to give up drinking fizzy pop... been tired the past few days because of it though i think aha, though i do have some dilute at work now :)

Thought it would be better now at 19 than later down the line :)

Good plans....your teeth will thank you for it in the long-term....

Do you have water coolers at work?

We have one in the middle of a couple of offices that isn't far away from my office so i always use it. and i've got sugar-free dilute to add to the water when i want.

Did anyone see the program "Trust me I'm a Doctor" on BBC2 last night? Very interesting bits about workouts and health. Probably not a scientific test but they did find that men burn more fat if they exercise BEFORE a meal, and women AFTER a meal

I've done the same, well, not given it up but when I'm at home I pour a glass of tonic water rather than pepsi.

There's as much sugar in Tonic as there is in Cola - you need to dilute it with Gin to get the ration down :p

I've given up fizzy pop as well. Not completely mind, if i treat myself to a take away i'll have one with it. But other than it's water or juice.

My sister, who is a big fizzy pop drinker, swears by her soda stream. Her fizzy pop is actually just soda water. She likes bubbles and doesn't mind the lack of flavour. Perhaps you could get one and add a twist of lemon to just soda water?

Didn't see the programme (didn't know about it until your post) but looks like something worth a watch based on the info on the series webpage

I'm in the process of trying to give up pepsi etc (apart from if we go out for a meal / I'm driving at the pub) - trying to replace with sparkling water!

The caffeine content of diet coke/pepsi max is what made it hard to give up for me. So perhaps having an extra cup of coffee will help with the cravings. If it is full sugar stuff then a sugar addiction is somewhat harder to deal with eek. I used to drink about a litre a day. I gave it up a couple of years ago now. I mean I still have it, but not every day, just the odd glass. Not having it in the house helped...same with chocolate. If it is not there, I can't consume it!

I have committed to 3 days per week of a sugar free, wheat free vegan diet as a bit of a detox and to cut down on my meat consumption but I have been building up to it for a few months. Unlikely I will ever go full vegan though, even more unlikely I will quit sugar all together....Hendersons Relish being the reason! Yorkshire folk will understand!

This. Ever since I moved out with my partner, we don't get biccys / crisps / cake etc! When I was living with my parents Mum used to bake cakes all the time, buy biscuits by the barrel, stock up the fridge so it was bulging. Even when we asked her to slow down with stuff she just couldn't help it!

I'm fairly good at keeping myself away from things that are in the house (though i have to be as i still live with parents and they buy stuff) I never was one for eating biscuits or sweets though.

It's Cola that was my problem, i could easily go through a 12 pack in a day if we had it... :l

it's been about a week since i've stopped drinking it and besides feeling a little bit more tired i feel the same aha :)

Need to work out some exercise plans now though, because other than walking to and from the trainstation before and after work i don't do anything lol.

Moving from full fat coke to diet coke changed me from 11 and a half stone to 9 stone, which is what I am now (I am 5'8" btw) Maybe give that a punt?

I know they say the diet stuff is bad for you but it seems to work for me! Running around this place helps a little too

The boots took a bashing today. Mud, water and hills.

Started running last week. Never enjoyed before but am taking the dog out with me so i'm not noticing the miles so much.

Managed 5 runs so far (4 consecutive) a mix of 3 and 5k (with walking) so happy with that.

Why are so many IT people fatties?

Maybe my comment here was a bit out of order. My car just broke down and I had no phone, so I ran/jogged/wheezed 7 miles home. Never felt so ill in my life. The cold air in the lungs.... I Won't be giving any largies any grief about not doing any exercise now. Perhaps sitting on your backside eating jaffa cakes and drinking cola doesn't do you any good even if you only weigh 9 stone

It took me I'd say an hour and a half, but I stopped for rests and to go to a corner shop, so it is cheating really. And do you know what? I still got home quicker than what it would have taken me on the busses round here.

Because I pulverised my shoulder doing (failing at) jujitsu and been doing reps of pies-to-face rather than gym. Oh well, almost there now! Just started 5x5 to get back into the swing of it and shoulder holding up with physio's blessing.

Edit - although even lean I was still "overweight" on my BMI. Then I would lol at BMI.

Going to the gym today and meeting with a PT to sort me out 3x 30min exercise routines that I can do when I am sitting at home for 6 weeks with a duff foot.

Finally got back to the gym last night after 3 weeks off. Before time off pullups = 8 sets of 8. Last night = 3 sets of 7, 3 sets of 5. I hope they quickly come back. Everything else was on par although I am a bit sore today. Back there tomorrow.

Should you exercise if still recovering from....exercise??

Over Christmas I managed to get on my cheapo exercise bike daily, doing anything from 35-55 minutes at a gentle to increasing pace, however now I'm back at work and in to my normal routine I'm finding my body just does n't want to comply!

My normal routine being; Wednesday evenings between six and seven 8-a-side football outside on astro where I try and push myself so by the end I'm pretty knackered, Friday evenings immediately after work another hour of football on astro where I take it slightly easier. Every other Sunday I play around 60 minutes of 11-a-side (veterans football - Gloucestershire FA league).

I find the days after I've trained or played a match my legs are still stiff and sore (hey I'm 46 !) and I don't go on the bike at all.....

Should I still go on - even if it's just for 20 minutes or should I let my body have a day of recovery and only hit the bike if I feel my body has recovered from any previous activities?

My aim is to get down from 13st 11 lbs to 13st 3 lbs by the summer holidays by a combination of more exercise and the intake of less calories :)
