Our exam team accompany the students, assist them in releasing the jobs (as the invigilators know their password, but they don't) then they sign and off they go.

NB: This problem is caused by Windows Update released in September 2026. It changes the settled default Windows power policy security settings which have been present since Windows Vista (19 years ago). The problem is likely to occur with all versions of PowerMAN since 2008 including the current beta. In 18 years of PowerMAN this is the first time this has happened. We take this very seriously and have a preliminary fix currently in testing.

Starting to see random shutdowns on our PC's so raised a ticket this morning. Hi Jeff, Thank you very much for your email. We haven’t got into this yet, but this problem would seem superficially similar to a problem reported by another customer on Friday. This was caused by a new Windows update which has subtly changed (e.g. broken!) the security model for Windows power policies. If this is the case, we have a fix already in the works.

A couple of users (staff) in the tenacy have reported intermittent issues when using Outlook on the web.

I don't think it takes too long to resign in and it protects us from staff using personal "shared" home computers if they don't sign out before someone else uses it. Perhaps 12 hours would at least allow someone to work all day and only sign in once... I'm just loathe to effectively make the system less secure.

Our MFA policy for staff includes a sign-in frequency (when off site) to M365 of every 6 hours. I've been challenged that this is too frequent and wondered what others might have set? Cheers

I've just updated our Google Chrome ADMX templates to the latest 149.0.7827.156 version There are a LOT of settings you can push out using GPO with this template. If anyone would like to share their top settings it would ensure I'm not missing anything that should fundamenally be set or locked down. Cheers.

Whilst I sympathise, all of our "expired" iPads I'm sure departments would have loved to have kept going on the WiFi - but security should trump all "need". Not having money should be no excuse to not follow standard security practices in this and other situations, you need to be careful as any compromise traced back to out of date hardware will fall on your lap as being responsible, unless of course you get things in writing from those above.

We've just decommisioned over 35 iPads that were knocking about, they were no longer receiving security updates, some were the original iPads minis - they've now been blocked from joining our Wifi and have been handed out to departments that will use them just as cameras. Does it not go against Cyber Essentials to be running hardware that cannot be patched?

I'm after 32 of these models : 4588105-2S I've seen them as cheap as just over £30 and as expensive as £70. I'm guessing you just pays your money and takes your chance

Did you look in to OSDCloud?

I might see if this also solves my issue, whereby sometimes the preview of emails does not work and I just get grey boxes, rendering can happen anything from a few seconds later to several minutes.

We have ongoing issues with OWA with it occasionally not previewing emails - just getting grey boxes - not sure if if this is anyway connected to your problem.

Still using MDT here, but have tested and deployed latest OS using OSDCloud, so at least we now have a backup plan should MDT fail us.

Another PC restarted yesterday with no user intervention. Details from the System Event Log are: The process C:\WINDOWS\uus\packages\preview\AMD64\MoUsoCoreWorker.exe (6A700-2021-03) has initiated the restart of computer 6A700-2021-03 on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: Operating System: Service pack (Planned) Reason Code: 0x80020010 Shut-down Type: restart Comment: This was with a user logged on. We have this Computer Group Policy set: No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations - ENABLED Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Update/Legacy Policies Supported On: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1 or At least Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 Explanation Specifies that to complete a scheduled installation, Automatic Updates will wait for the computer to be restarted by any user who is logged on, instead of causing the computer to restart automatically. If the status is set to Enabled, Automatic Updates will not restart a computer automatically during a scheduled installation if a user is logged in to the computer. Instead, Automatic Updates will notify the user to restart the computer. Be aware that the computer needs to be restarted for the updates to take effect. If the status is set to Disabled or Not Configured, Automatic Updates will notify the user that the computer will automatically restart in 5 minutes to complete the installation. Note: This policy applies only when Automatic Updates is configured to perform scheduled installations of updates. If the "Configure Automatic Updates" policy is disabled, this policy has no effect. I just don't see how computers are restarting on their own Anecdotal evidence from the incident yesterday was that a pop-up came up asking for the computer to be restarted following a Windows update, but it was supressed and then within 5 minutes the computer just restarted with no one near it!
