Office / admin staff add and remove staff. IT only manages accounts and access.

From within the messaging tool if the "Send push notification for mobile app users" is ticked this will send messages to the app (parent or student) rather than sending SMS / E-mail. Of course, it only works with those who have enrolled on the app and will send SMS / E-mail to all others. Bromcom does one or the other, not both; it's either a message to the app or an e-mail / SMS.

I don't recall making changes to permissions for this purpose; access is via Modules / Assessment / Assessment sheet list then set the access level to HoD or HoS
-
I didn't do anything specifically to the marksheets, just populated the Head of Subject and Head of Department and put all subjects into departments.
-
The whole system is poor and under resourced. I've got tickets open since February that only have "we'll look into it" as a response; others get shut down with nothing happening. We have found that an e-mail to [email protected] can sometimes expediate matters.
-
With a few months experience I can advise:- 1 - take the completion date out of the marksheet template and this will remove the big red message but not disable the marksheets. When I do this I also make all date entry field to read only, just in case!! 2 - my HoD's complain that there's too much showing! As a HoD they should see all classes in the department and hence all marksheets; we did the HoS and HoD stuff early on.
-
We've had a few disabled too.

We moved to Bromcom, we can import our ATF into that and do all we need for our incoming Y7s.
-
We're not using it yet, but I believe that is the way it works.

I've been down the community route, all you get is "use the community, it's great". Truth is, the community pages are no better than a Facebook group with users answering other users questions, and it's very difficult to find questions similar to yours because people use different terminology and there's no categorisation of the questions. I've asked a few questions there myself and had one usable response. I'm not defending Bromcom, but I think they are currently inundated with migrations as it's three years since ESS introduced their 3-year contract term; people who signed up for SIMS then have used the intervening years to source an alternative and they are now all moving. I had a teams meeting with a few people from Bromcom yesterday and it was clear from the way they presented and the looks on their faces that they are under a lot of stress. Again, not defending them, this was always a likely outcome and they could have been better prepared. Our migration starts tomorrow, wish me luck!

You'd think! I e-mailed a list of 50+ questions and concerns to our designated point of contact before Christmas; I finally spoke with them this week and they had "no knowledge" of the document. I've subsequently re-sent that list, along with some new questions and have yet to receive a response three days later.

Good morning, We're now just weeks away from migration to Bromcom and I feel somewhat unprepared for what will be a big change. We have put in many, many hours of training, reading, playing with the test site and preparing our data for the move, but I just feel underwhelmed by the lack of support we've had from Bromcom themselves. According to the documentation we received we should have had "free of charge, we provide end to end support from the point of sale, to ensure there’s minimal hassle throughout the transition process. This includes Project Management, templates and guides, alongside a Partner support team to advise you on integrations and API management." Thus far I've had two 45 minute calls with two different people and that's it - no project management, no API management, no Partner support team; the only guides and templates we've had are what I've found for myself. Does this sound familiar to those of you who have made this change? Am I just paranoid? Bromcom_Darren is this how things are supposed to be?

We've dumped Applicaa - the parent apps on the new MIS are available to pre-admission students so negates the need for a third party tool.

We've gone with Bromcom so can still use NT6, which we will do up until the point where our current timetabler leaves / retires / dies / sees the light!

Capturing your requirements when considering/migrating to a new MIS
Seb1780 replied to psydii's topic in MIS Systems
We're currently migrating. To begin with I wrote a review of what we do and how we do it using our current systems. This was broken down by function (e.g. HR, Pastoral, etc) and then by task (e.g. recording absence, staff appraisal, payroll). For each task I identified what we currently use, what current issues we had and what, if anything, was a critical requirement from the new system. Once written this was shared far and wide before being ratified by SLT. That ratified document was then converted into a specification of requirements which was sent to several MIS providers. Again it was broken down by function but it now identified essential, desirable and "nice to have" features and each supplier was asked to identify how they met these requirements. From the responses received we were able to shortlist suppliers to come in to do "deep dive" presentations to various staff. After responses and presentations the matter was returned to SLT for the final decision. Once we made the decision I drew up a schedule for training and implementation of the new system. I started by training myself, then training the support staff who use the systems the most, then support staff with a lesser involvement. After Christmas I will train certain teachers and that training will be cascaded down to all teachers. So far I have watched many, many hours of videos; I have delivered dozens of hours of training to support staff and I expect there will be many more to come. We go live after Feb half-term. I have done 95+% of the work, but involved SLT and others so that they had their say and they had their opportunity to ask for something different. It's a lot of work but it's also, potentially, the biggest thing I'll do. And the rewards for the school and those working here are significant. -
Only the Primary Schools and one Secondary - the others have gone separate ways. Roll out to the Primaries has begun.

[bromcom] Is it possible to create custom absent marks?
Seb1780 replied to Rob_D's topic in MIS Systems
Yes, there are DfE defined codes and, yes, you do need to map your custom ones to a DfE one - but by using custom you can be more refined, especially when looking at lesson codes rather than session codes. For example, a lot of places will use a custom code for "forgotten PE kit" which is used to identify trends etc but maps to "present" for DfE purposes. -
Are ESS trying to make it harder to migrate away from to SIMS?
Seb1780 replied to Ditto's topic in MIS Systems
We're moving from SIMS and our costs will halve. It's not the cost of the base MIS, it's the additional dozen or more add-ons that sting us. Add to this the benefits and time saving that will come from using just one tool and it's easy to justify the "expensive" newcomers. -
:-) We've got these terms in our new one!
-
Check the T&Cs - most reputable organisations we deal with have a clause specifically about data transfer at the end of the contract.
-
We've just fallen foul of this ourselves. Did you ever manage to resolve this issue? Having used the Applicaa system for a couple of years we're now questioning its value for money. Sure, some parts are pretty good, but there are fundamental issues like this that mean we just cannot trust the data that is imported. And even with the good parts - importing contacts - we've found that it doesn't check against staff names so we managed to create new contacts for existing staff members that had to then be manually corrected. We won't be using SIMS next year, so I'm hoping we won't be needing a third-party tool to do all this work!

Good morning, We're currently in the process of assessing new suppliers for our MIS and it will not be SIMS. Our timetabler insists that they must have Nova T6 as "it's the only way I can do my job"; they've even convinced the Head that this is the case. Has anyone got experience of using Nova T6 with Arbor and/or Bromcom? In particular, how do you get your license for Nova T6? Thanks
