Played football for the first time in about 6 months (first time in over a year with no niggling injuries)

I ache in places I didn't know that I had. I also took a heavy challenge, went AoT and landed on my shoulder, which today is very sore!

I've been drinking Huel instead of my normal not-so-healthy breakfasts. I definitely feel healthier, much more energy during the day! now I just need to start going back to the gym..

I'm contemplating whether to cancel my gym membership!

I cancelled mine when I realised that what my last visit had effectively cost. On the positive side, I ended my losing streak at Tennis on Sunday in a gruelling two hour freezeathon, 7-6 (7-0), 6-4. I just need to do a bit more cycling to round it out (or even out my roundness).

I've been into fitness and aesthetic gym training for a number of years, here's my current diet.

8:00am: two scoops of whey protein isolate, two scoops ofinstant oats. 1000mg vitamin c.

11:30am: 160g (cooked weight) turkey/chicken/salmon/steak, 250g (cooked weight) brown rice/wholemeal pasta/sweet potato & broccoli/spinach/asparagus/cauliflower

1:30pm: 160g (cooked weight) turkey/chicken/salmon/steak, 250g (cooked weight) brown rice/wholemeal pasta/sweet potato & broccoli/spinach/asparagus/cauliflower

4:00pm: 160g (cooked weight) turkey/chicken/salmon/steak, 250g (cooked weight) brown rice/wholemeal pasta/sweet potato & broccoli/spinach/asparagus/cauliflower

Pre Workout: L-Glutamine in water. BCAA's

Post Workout: one scoops of protein & one scoops of vitargo in water.

7:00pm: 160g (cooked weight) turkey/chicken/salmon/steak, 250g (cooked weight) brown rice/wholemeal pasta/sweet potato & broccoli/spinach/asparagus/cauliflower

9:00pm: 50g Cashews

In just about the best shape of my life right now I reckon. Not bad for mid-thirties!!

Current gym schedule is 3 times a week.

My biggest advice for gym training

- Slow reps

- Keep weights just below your max, go hard on days when you feel like it and medium on all other days.

- Carb cycle

- Prevent injury by building up to things, never look for a quick fix

- Use a mirror always for perfect technique

- If your exercise is not targeting a specific muscle, then it isnt worth doing.

- 45min workouts are more than enough

- 30mins of cardio everyday is about right, that can include walking or cycling

- Enjoy cheat days

@zag

I am more into the compound muscle exercises that work more than one muscle group at the same time - what do you think of those?

Absolutely fine if your goal is strength, posture or fat loss(with the correct diet of course). But if its aesthetics you are after or changing body shape, then working individual muscles is the way to go.

Also a gym session should always target a muscle group, whether that's compounds exercises or isolation.

Oh yes, the exercises I do are either "arms" or "legs" or "core" and within that description they might target one, two or more of the muscles associated with that body part.

I am indeed after posture, strength and fat loss - not that I have seen much of an improvement. I certainly don't want to be any more muscley - the gym guys keep telling me that the stuff I do won't make me bulgy but I have shoulders like a prizefighter now so I am not sure I believe them!

Or push pull routine, which can simplify it for beginners.

day 1 push:

bench

squat

OHP

dips

day 2 pull:

pullups

deadlifts

curls

rows

Changing the set and rep range on that routine will vary goals.

Oh goodness I have been doing this too long - I was thinking what would you do with an overhead projector!!

My exercise routine is 4 groups of 4 exercises - arms, legs, core, 1 min cardio rowing

I have been doing it for a while now and I think I need to change things but I am not sure what other things will have the same effect.

I've always wanted to start badminton. I'm a huge fan of playing Tennis so I imagine Badminton can't be /too/ different.

Personally, I don't think they mix very well. I think it is probably worse coming from Badminton to Tennis because the technique is so different - you end up trying to flick a tennis ball with your wrist and after a while it really hurts. Swinging through a badminton forehand isn't great technique but doesn't actually hurt you.

Yeah I know they're somewhat different, my main reason for not starting is honestly because I don't have anyone who's interested in it. It's somewhat difficult with the folks I know to find someone who will stick to it for more than just a one weekend kind of thing.

Join a club. Also, look for a local place doing "no strings badmington" - where anyone can turn up and play. For Tennis; my local Tennis club organises cheap coaching sessions, has a fun league and club sessions where anyone can turn up.

Go for it, an over head clear is not to different from a serve in Tennis, and you'll be doing a lot of clears in badminton. Get some tips for backhands though, makes a difference!

Put on some pants this morning and they are a lot tighter than they should be!!! Can't believe how fast I've reverted. Everything goes straight to my belly!

Writing out an exercise plan and meal plan. I need to start eating more, but more good stuff. Thinking 5 small meals a day. Going to have to spend some time preparing this food. I want it to be tasty stuff too... not just plan chicken and broccoli.

I've ditched the gym, so it's going to be with stuff we have at home (we do have a spare room dedicated to weights and stuff). I'm planning on alternating working days with yoga days too to keep stretchy. There's a really good YouTube channel that wasn't too annoying: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFKE7WVJfvaHW5q283SxchA

I'll write more later when I have a clearer plan if anyone is interested. I'll have to do a progress chart methinks... maybe with stickers and a picture of thinner Joanne.

Perhaps you could try making one of these No TV unless you exercise! The family would no doubt provide vocal encouragement to keep peddling!

Not a chance. Any risk to blowing my TV up is a risk too much! :p

I need to think about cycling to work... but when the weather is like this, you really don't want to!

Got student of the year at my MMA class! Chuffed! Resting off the weights this week as i'm having a "fight" tomorrow. I say "fight" as it's a glorified sparring session really but don't want to be tired and sore for it.

Anyone got any recommendations for a decent vanilla protein powder that does not taste like wet towels, is not extremely overloaded with sugar and for a reasonable price?
