    it would seem that thousands of PCs from my local domain and personal devices are registered in my Azure. Should I turn off "Users may join devices to Azure AD" and will it break anything to delete all the PCs that are in there?

    The PC is an education version so is already cheaper at £420ish and then I'm getting £150 trade in to make it £310 total.

    Anyone using the HP brighter futures stuff! I'm getting £150 back on their "hero" SKUs I'm trading in my old Elitedesk G1 PCs from 2014 (4th gen i5). I'm getting HP 440 G9 laptops with 12th gen i5 and some HP 400 G9 i5 desktops. I'm not promoting this btw just saying that it seems a good deal, if you have old stuff ready to recycle. The PCs have to turn on and be under ten years old.. (that was the only requirement, I checked) I was a little miffed to find out my HP 8300 (3rd gen i5) were 11 years old... ignore the x x because I filled a claim with the wrong details. but I'm getting the desktops £310 after cash back.     I was about to boast about just using the dictate feature addin for word but it seems they've finally killed it. it was a nice end around the need to use the o365 version of word. oh well dragon it is. EDIT: you could disable edge / chrome and still allow internet access for the dictation feature...but this is moot now.

    yes, as above, security defaults... MFA for all users or NONE. Personal MFA is ending support, if you want to MFA your staff, you'll have to stump up the money. I agree MFA for pupils is an unbelievable burden, even if you manage the "no MFA" from the school network, they need support at home x 1000+ pupils... no thanks.

    err, SDS just accepts CSVs so just create a report in your MIS that complies with that formatting..and it's done.. next year will be easy to, or mid year changes. it also has all of the end of year markdown features that you've not stumbled into yet. (archive old teams by changing their names and making them read only, making new teams with old names, new users and new owners) as class names remain the same but new teachers and pupils n wot not.

    The Office 365 NEW default security configuration now includes using 2FA for all users... The issue is schools don't want to use 2FA with pupils. This means that unless a school purchases upgrades all users use it without 2FA. (yes you can use personal 2FA but that is being deprecated and will not be supported much longer) Office 365 does have the "Microsoft Secure Score" for admins to tighten security, that although is somewhat useful is really an upsell machine for higher tier subscriptions.

    How are we deploying printers these days? ok, I've been lucky that I'd created a deploy image that is so old it predates the printer deployment "fix" so as long as printers are added before the Os updates it's all good. BUT I can't do this forever and some devices have a need for new printers.. Sharp Printers and mode4 drivers are the universal ones that I've never got to work properly. So if I want to deploy a mode 3 printer driver and auto add a printer for pupils how do we do this?

    I've been having issues similar to this on my hp 440 G7 laptops.. I've found an issue that may help... Some of my laptops have marginal wifi (I haven't looked into further). I recently changed the Ubiquity WiFi to move clients to 5Ghz (if capable).. This is an issue for these marginal laptops, I got one and even in ideal conditions it was only connecting at 85mbp PHY on 2.4Ghz (but had a strong signal and was next to the AP) I could see that every 30 seconds or so the laptop would move to 5Ghz with almost no signal.. fail and go back to 2.4ghz and repeat. I think the WiFi card has a fault or worse, the antenna leads going to the screen are damaged. The Windows 11 thing might be a coincidence. I've now reverted the Wi-Fi settings to not move capable clients to 5Ghz and the laptop is at least not loosing a connection every 30 seconds.

    I used the built in strict policy in office 365, now teachers get a summary email (next day) with the subject of every quarantine email and can view it online or release it. (no I can't remember where this was, probably exchange)

    I have an Logi H390 usb headset. You can't hear anthing but the OS has detected it. (so it's duff right)... Well here is the oddity. The "ding" sound that is made the when you change the volume can be heard! Not only heard but is loud, clear and definitely in stereo. (so the analogue part would appear to be ok and it must work at some level).. All volume sliders are 100% only windows sounds can be heard (the volume ding) if I turn the "windows sounds" slider to 0% I can still hear the volume ding which I shouldn't. This occurs on all PCs it is used with.. Logi's tech support said to upgrade motherboard drivers... nice. I would write them off but I'm concerned that some little turd has figured out a way of messing with the headset... (as we have many more) I did try windows sound trouble shooter that found nothing and I did check sound enhancements but all bypassed and not set. odd hardware glitch or can't a usb headset store volume settings?

    I buy (bought) recon machines that have i5 as new i3 used to be quite a poor choice.

    I'd think not, unless you think maybe you'll go to a faster internet. As more stuff get chucked online the local storage needs are diminishing. Maybe a 2.5g backbone? but really you could aggregate the switches links and take an existing 1gb backbone to 2 gig. (as you probably have redundant or unpatched fiber anyhow)

    we create an exam user with no password. The exam officer types it in before the exam. The account is disabled when not in use.

    I've been looking at this years replacement PCs and I usually go for an i5 or an r5 CPU. I have however seen the core i3 13100 a 4 performance core 8 thread CPU.... This thing rocks hard! it can go toe to toe with an i7 8700 (a 6 core 12 thread CPU) I'm thinking as far as I can muster a need for a much more powerful CPU in the future. The thing is, a NEW Dell PC with this CPU is only £300 (without multibuy and edu discount.) More importantly cheaper than a reconditioned i7 from 2017 EDIT the 8700 could only muster a win in cinebench all core, otherwise was beaten totally.

    We've long since stopped using our Dlink IP (DCS-900) cameras from 2004...BUT We then I have always left them plugged into the POE switch (as they've been replaced over the years) as the cameras lights still blink. And may act as a dummy, dummy camera! I was asked about it today and curiosity got me too look for their ip address. (in the wrong range) Well long and short is yes I can still log in and YES it still works! hahha this thing will be in service for almost 20 years! I could only get a snapshot of the video at first as the software is XP era and the web page needs java or activex... yeah! I did some sleuthing and found the video feed IP/video.cgi! I put this into VLC and it prompted for a password and works! (Fricking VLC is amazing)

    Could it be that users previously have been using the (Wi-Fi Calling) that is built into phones all this time (whilst always having poor 3g/4g reception) and the new Ubiquiti setup has spoiled that somehow. AND they were unaware they were using that feature. Does the new wifi have a different key and or a portal login that stops traffic...etc.

    we use 2019 pro the LTSC 2021 did not offer a KMS key so I figured I wasn't supposed to deploy it.

    I've just solved (kinda) this issue. (needed edge for PDFs and read aloud but no internet) I put exam pupils on to a different proxy. (if you use RM technologies you have a few) Then filter traffic accordingly.
