  1. I'm told that the majority of it is from 1955:
  2. this is going to suck. Affinity used to be Serif, I've always like the tech support and product.. This is an adobe acquires corel draw all over again.
  3. we asked staff for old iphones for trips and visits, we got 5 in a week!
  4. maybe they could hotspot from their laptop? (probably not)
  5. yeap, the cheapest solution is a synology+ station. I have a DS 218+ it is nicely done, local and well documented. £500 for a unit with drives. (cheaper than cloud solutions)
  6. wow, as long as you remove these devices from your meraki inventory, people can claim them. These would be what Meraki call Grey devices, you can licence them but Meraki will NOT provide warranty support. You may also wish to change your licencing model to disaggregated. I'm running about 10 MR30H grey right now if it fails I can remove the licence buy another (unclaimed device) and apply the licence to it. Meraki don't offer the 2 for 1 education discount any more though.
  7. aww I thought it was a novelty defect. Just wrong cable, wrong box. Still poor guy moved things to get to the back before he looked at the cable!
  8. so this is new, right?
  9. Ha, was logging in to Meraki and they have an advert for their cloud cameras. (serverless cameras, as they market them) Expensive products but might be perfect for you.
  10. I set my virtualized DC to use the swgfl time servers and everything is a ok.
  11. I was about to suggest dropcam but boy am I out of date! bought in 2014 and google are killing it in April.
  12. hugh.... I was just reading this wondering the consequences of a chat ai in the classroom.... Do you think it could replace the teaching assistance....es. how long till management catch wind of this thought. (approx 3 months)
  13. I think Impero did something like this, also would office metrics (if setup) do anything like you want? (things I've heard, not done)
  14. 1up techmonkey post about synology boxes. I have 2 of these boxes going spare, I upgraded the storage to 4tb and used the o365 backup that has full instructions btw. This is by far the very cheapest way to backup office 365 and with weekly reporting. The interface is easy as well and you can (again with instructions and a template letter) backup teams conversations etc. Really nice.
  15. we are on wifi5, most devices are 2x2 and connect at around 400Mbps. In a busy area a device will speedtest.net at around 230Mbps. I don't yet see a need to upgrade until the hardware is unsupported. (unifi nano / ac wave2)
  16. You can buy a new 64gb steamdeck for £309. this might be enough power. and can be upgraded and used with tv or monitors
  17. 6+ hours per day, you'd be looking at something along the lines of digital signage. Displays that have management and are made to work those long hours.
  18. Price per scan.... get a new supplier. I like our sharp printers well enough. 0.1p a black and white and 3.6p for a colour (any paper size) scanning is free. The new printers include OCR which is a nice meta data addon for the teams stuff. (also the read aloud feature for the SEN pupils)
  19. For anyone else who run into this, pointers are still supported, WIX just buried the instructions. The "a record" is weird you can have an "a record" with no entry that may also appear as an "@" symbol but on swgfl it is just empty. I updated the cname and the no name "a record" and it worked in a few hours.
  20. I had 20 dfe laptops left over, just issued them with a hotspot to "airgap" them.
  21. ha! I've always kept them offline and never use the built in features. I got a few as they're built well but as I tell every IWB seller, I don't want your crummy apps, out of date android and proprietary remote video software... bleh..
  22. Such a huge liability, move them to an online resource or issue non-domain laptops. it'd only take one pupil to copy paste malicious code and bam!
  23. single 27" 4k screen now, enough for work. Some people have a portrait screen for reading docs whilst working in landscape, this seemed interesting to me.
  24. setting a minimum data rate shouldn't affect well behaving devices as they'd shift to a new AP if there is a stronger faster network anyway. The only issue it may have is if the "good" devices are forced into a marginal wifi area and get the boot. You can set this on a per ssid setting so you could test it.
  25. you have to de-solder the BIOS and replace it. They sell them on ebay pre-programmed. if you just need to reimage them the only way around it is to image the drive on another device, sysprep and transfer.
